I know the 80’s were quite a while ago and many of you weren’t even born let alone watching movies, but there truly were some epic films back in the decade of big hair, shoulder pads and leg warmers. We’re showing just a select few to give you inspiration for 80’s flirt! All of them are well worth a watch even (and perhaps especially) if you haven’t heard of them. 10am - Footloose. Kevin Bacon forces a town to change its fuddy duddy way through the power of...dance. Pretty much as ridiculous as it sounds but massively enjoyable and even has a modern musical based on the film.

Time fly’s when you’re having fun! Hello, Ola, Bonjour, Guten Tag... It’s a strange but exciting time at University currently - the weather is starting to dictate how our moods are, what your dress code is going to be - and in certain cases ends up being the deciding factor over whether you make the effort to complete your work or stay in bed wrapped in a duvet!

12pm - Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall (her from out of Sex and the City) lead an awesome action adventure spiced with eastern magic and martial arts. An amazing blend of genres from director John Carpenter.

What is definitely the case (changes in the weather aside) is that time is flying by and this means deadlines for work are getting closer, so be sure to get your work done & assessments completed so that you can continue to enjoy the extra-curricular activities going on at your union!

2pm - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Even if you haven't seen this film, you almost certainly will have heard of it or seen a tribute to it having been featured in everything from Family Guy to recent Hollywood movie The Easy A. As righteously funny today as it was in 1986. Arguably director John Hughes best film.

It’s not too late to get involved in your Student Union, all our sports clubs and societies are still recruiting and looking for members - whatever you’re interested in they want to hear from you, and if the SU doesn’t have a activity group that suits your lifestyle or interests then do something about it and contact me and share with others your pride, passion and determination in being the person you want to be!

4pm - Goonies. An adventure comedy that follows the antics of a bunch of misfit kids who are on a hunt for the lost treasure of a 17th Century pirate, dodging a family of murderous criminals who are also after the loot. A true 80’s classic that deserves to be seen by everybody at least once a year!

University offers every student and member of staff the opportunity to find out who you really are, what direction your life is meant to take, and become the person that you will be for the rest of your life. By now you have most definitely made friends with people that I am sure will remain friends well past your graduation; some may even meet future partners that you share the rest of life together with!

6pm - The Wedding Singer. A film so awesome it’s wormed its way into this marathon without actually being a film made in the 80’s. A sweet and hilarious romantic comedy set in the early 80’s starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Now is the time to get involved and become the person you want to be, the Student Union is here for you whether on a social side, sporting side, welfare, ethical, environmental, academic, or just as a friend - the Student Union is always here for you!

8pm - Ghostbusters. I’m not sure that this film needs any words but just in case you’ve never heard of one of the greatest films of the last 3 decades this film is a horror comedy about a zany bunch of University professors who start a fledgling business catching ghosts. If you see only one film of this marathon that you haven’t seen before, it should be this one!

Have pride in who you are, passion in what you do, and be determined in where you go!
