The story begins So, it’s year 2038 and I’m going to tell you the story of a young boy living in a city that is not really what you used to imagine. His life is filled with joy, sorrow, love, hope and fear. My goal, as an experimental writer of this story is to take you to the scenes, make you feel the emotions and show you things that may, just may come in the future. The character of my story is Peter and he is been a journalist for a while. His father was an Englishman, moved to Dubai 30 years ago in the quest to make a fortune out of the property market. Thirty years ago, there was a huge boom in Dubai city development. Everyone like Peter’s father was trying to make something out of it. Peter remembers the stories his father used to tell him. He was just a child and doesn’t remember much of that time, Dubai taking shape.
But one evening, in the middle of autumn, John was having his latte at a coffee shop while checking market statistics, preparing proposals and slideshows. And on that special evening John met Peter’s mother, Jameela, for the first time. The coffee shop is still there in Dubai Marina. It was a rainy evening. The rain was no less that a shower and no one could stand outside. Although it’s so romantic to be out in the rain but the coffee shop was full of
:: The story begins
His father, John, was not a wealthy man when he moved to Dubai. He only had good faith to work hard and save money for a better future. Having this attitude by himself made him a successful businessman. With all the success he had in the market, still he was missing something, another half of his life, a life full of love and happiness. Loneliness was his only dilemma and it was a big one. It was not just him; the whole city was in an emotional cultural tragedy.

It was not an easy marriage. There was a big gap between eastern and western cultures and a situation like this was not usual. After all, John and Jameela were enough mature to make their lifetime decision. They have already made their choice to marry each other by any cost. John easily learned Arabic within few months after the marriage and he was excited to know more about eastern culture day by day. Their way of expressing love to each other was wonderful and their friends were always jealous of how this couple of two different worlds can be so much in love.

people running away from the rain. Jameela was working in the Media City as a journalist. On that special evening she thought it’s better to stay somewhere safe and near where she works. The metro was still on the posters and driving in such weather was a risk. She walked inside the coffee shop, filled with people talking to each other and laughing as loud as no one could hear the music. Finding a place to sit was like impossible. The only place which catches her eyes was a chair next to a young boy who was seriously typing things in his Mac AirBook. Airbook was a new gadget and she had a plan to buy one, so she thought let’s ask him about his laptop. She didn't even know the boy who within few months became her husband. She asked John to take the next chair and John agreed happily, while inside, his heart was beating fast. He just saw a beautiful Arab girl with black hair, black eyes like a sky filled with glowing stars. John, as a businessman, found that moment as an excellent opportunity to exercise some marketing concepts. So with his own way of influencing people, John started the conversation and conquered a heart that is still beating for him. Next evening was just another usual evening, but surprisingly or maybe not surprisingly, both of them came to the same place again, wishing to see each other once more. So it happened every evening till they got married eight month later at a sunny morning of summer, when the weather was just hot.
5 Thirty years Two years later, in the beginning of a spring, in the middle of a shiny day, God gave them a cute and healthy boy and they named him Peter. Peter of our story is now 25 year old. Peter has recently been graduated with a degree in Journalism Studies from American University of Dubai, which is located at Dubai Academic City. It seems he got the talent from his mother, Jameela, and grew it inside himself. John and Jameela bought a house in UK to rest their retirement; Dubai no longer is the same peaceful place as it used to be. So Peter is now all alone by himself in Dubai. He works for a news agency called The Daily Dubai. He got a small desk there on the 85th floor of Burj Dubai, with a great view of the city. Before moving to UK, John gave Peter some money as a start up and so the apartment Peters grew up in it. From that time Peter is all by himself to make a life full of happiness, I hope so, like his father.
So Peter, go on and tell us.
