we achieved

A little bit of background onHouse, Just A Drop ... Dobrovat Romania

2011

The money raised in 2011 was used last year for a project which has supplied safe, clean drinking water and sanitation to Dobrovat House, a children’s facility, in Romania. These children have no access to clean water or safe sanitation in their own homes and face extreme poverty. For the children attending Dobrovat

seeing the house finished and fully functional with a clean, safe water source and suitable sanitation is a dream come true. Without the support of Atlas Copco these children, who face extreme poverty in their daily lives, wouldn’t be able to access the services of Dobrovat House, including the clean, safe

drinking water and access to suitable sanitation. Their time at Dobrovat House may just give them the education, dignity and motivation they need to escape the cycle of poverty. All this for £2.69 per child which is incredible.

Poverty to have pipes laid, all sewerage completed and a full cesspit installed.■ Find out more about the project

Project Name: Kitwekayambogo Village Borehole, Uganda For pictures of the villagers see pages four, five and six.

2012 With the money raised during 2012 we will be funding a borehole project in a small Ugandan village. It will directly benefit the 1700 inhabitants of the village and further benefit to those that attend the college and school. Kitwekayambogo Village, Bukoma Sub County, Luuka District is a traditional county or chiefdom in Busoga Kingdom headed by a traditional chief named Tabingwa. The project will involve the drilling of a borehole and the provision and the fitting of pipes and a hand pump. It will also involve the training in hygiene and sanitation for the local community leaders. Urgent action has to be taken to reduce the risk of water borne diseases such as: schistosomiasis (bilharzia), worms, cholera and many more by providing locally accessible clean and safe water.

Why not get involved?

In addition there is an ongoing threat of domestic violence from men who think it is the role of women and children in these homesteads to fetch and provide water. If they fail or are unable to fulfil this duty they are punished for it. The community will own the project but Just a Drop’s local partner BORCCH (Butterman Outreach Centre for Community Health Services) will take responsibility for establishing and then training Water User Committees
