THE HOSTEL PROJECT Final thesis, Renovation of a hostel in the center of Athens THE IDEA:

The small wooden cube is too

small to coexist alone within the transparent big cube. They need

the intermediate metal cube in order to coexist harmoniously.

In the same way that the cubes are

interdependent

between

them, likewise, the areas of a hostel

are

interdependent.

as

They

equally are

connected through their passages and the consecutive transition between

the

open

communal

spaces and the more private ones,

either by the use of increasingly

"solid" boundaries or the use of materials and colours.

Inside the hostel, the publiccommunal areas are rooms which

we share with everyone, there is

no privacy, in the same way that there is no privacy when we try to

hide behind a glass wall. Moving

towards the bed, the visitor of the

hostel gradually passes from the public areas to more private ones,

the dormitories. Rooms which he

doesn't share with everyone but

only a small group of people. It

could be considered a semi-

private area. An area inside which

exists the "small wooden cube" of

each visitor. A private space.

In the end, it's all about the coexistance of spaces and people,

an interaction between the public and the private and the transition

between them.

Perspective view of the reception and the lobby

Entering the hostel we arrive on the entrance area, a passage from the public street to the building.

It's the area where the visitor can leave his umbrella or take off his jacket and then choose a

direction, either going up the stairs towards his room or the reception or continue walking straight ahead to the courtyard. The reception has direct visual contact with the entrance while staying in contact with the lobby, the staircase and the corridor that leads to the wc and the dormitories.

Leaving behind the public area of the lobby, the visitor follows the passageway to a space that is not intented to

be accessed by all visitors, only by him and his "roommates", his dormitory. Therein lies his own personal

space, his bed. Following the corridor to its end, there is a

stair which connects the two floors with the courtyard on

the ground floor. At the courtyard is located the dining area which can also be used for movies' projections. Next

to the dining area is the kitchen which provides the guests with a self-service buffet.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS Various Typically the process included visiting the place and

measuring it, writing down the needs of the residents and

their preferences and then the creative part began.

After careful consideration of the above, research for

materials and many proposals, the final floorplan came

out. The next step then was the 3d modelling of the proposal and its’ photorealistic rendering.

Having the customer’s fiinal choice and the financial agreement, the construction began!

RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS(ii) www.creators-projects.com Re-create is an online service which provides free interior design proposals

based on information given by the

people wishing to participate. The

participants send us information such as

preferable colors or style, budget, the number of people living in the apartment and a few words, if they wish, about their daily routine

and in return they receive a 3d proposal and also links to the furniture used in it.

BADOO Women’s clothing store Retail interior design can be quite challenging. Especially in

busy areas like the center of Athens. This store is located in Kolonaki, one of the regions of Athens famous for their high fashion shops and a very busy area.

The process for this project included the measurement of

the

existing

place,

interior

design

proposal,

modelling and photorealistic rendering of the final plans.

GRANDECO Exhibition stand Interior design proposal, 3d modelling and rendering of an exhibition stand for a greek furniture design company, named GranDeco. The key to this design proposal was the division of the 15m² stand into smaller areas which was accomplised with the use of different colors.

GM ADVERTISING Advertising/Printing company’s offices My part in this project was the

measurement

of

the

existing

place, coming up with several

design proposals through a series of sketches and after choosing the final interior design proposal,

the creation of the 3d modelling and the photorealistic rendering.

The client, an advertising/printing company, despite being a small

enterprise, wanted their offices to convey a sense of a big, universal company.

A

big

welcoming

reception and private offices,

which still maintain visual contact

between them, were two of the things they asked for.

PHARMACY Pharmacy Although short-term, my contact with the interior design of pharmacies has taught me a lot. I was involved in projects which

were assigned to a larger group of people so we all had to

cooperate harmoniously in order to successfully complete each

project. Of course new rules applied to this special field of designing pharmacies and I was happy to educate myself with something new.

My part here was to provide interior design proposals through floor plans and sections and then, based on the plans, create the 3d modelling and rendering of the plans. The proposals included the

interior design of the pharmacy as well as the exterior.

THE BATHROOMS ERA Various My introduction to the world of bathrooms was revolved around the

designing and the 3d visualisation of bathroom areas as well as to

get to know better the materials used in the construction. Part of

the benefits was also getting familiar with a new powerful software, Visoft.
