I am delighted to welcome you to Barnard for the second annual Athena Film Festival, a vibrant celebration of women and leadership. To be able to host this gathering of talented filmmakers and women leaders is a truly great moment for the College. Last year’s inaugural festival was a brilliant beginning to what we at Barnard hope will become an ongoing event and an enduring conversation. Over the course of the weekend, we will share with you the stories of remarkable women—remarkable both in spirit and accomplishment. Through the screenings and the discussions that follow, their important work will be brought to light. We hope you enjoy it all, and come away with a deeper appreciation for the art of film and women who are changing the world.

Throughout our careers, we have dedicated our energies, talents and passion to ensuring that the stories of women – their courage, compassion, complexity, and humor – make it to the big screen. To ensure that young women grow up believing they can make a difference in the world, they need to see role models to whom they can relate. They need to meet the women leaders who are changing lives for the better, and be inspired to do the same.
