MARCH

A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. Now celebrating its 27th year in the West End, over 7 million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most chilling and successful theatre events ever staged.

‘A SUPERBLY GRIPPING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER’ DAILY TELEGRAPH One of the greatest thrillers of all time hits the UK stage starring the highly-acclaimed stage and television actress Kara Tointon. While Jack Manningham (Rupert Young) is on the town each evening his wife Bella (Kara Tointon) is home alone. She can’t explain the disappearance of familiar objects, the mysterious footsteps overhead or the ghostly flickering of living room gaslight – is she losing her mind? Does the terror exist in her imagination or are dark secrets living in her home? The surprise arrival of a retired detective (Keith Allen) leads to a shocking discovery that will shake her respectable Victorian marriage to its core. In the tradition of heavyweight thrillers from Hitchcock, Christie and Priestley, Gaslight is a genre-defining, sensationally suspenseful, all-round elegant masterpiece. This new production of Gaslight is the definitive seatgripping drama not to be missed. A tense and hugely satisfying evening of great British theatre.

24 — 28 JAN A CURVE AND ROSE THEATRE KINGSTON PRODUCTION

THE PERFECT TREAT FOR ALL THE FAMILY

Jo Mousley as Mrs Twit

Robert Pickavance as Mr Twit

MR TWIT WAS A TWIT. HE WAS BORN A TWIT. AND NOW, AT THE AGE OF SIXTY, HE WAS A BIGGER TWIT THAN EVER. Mr Twit has a very hairy face. His beard is spiky and smelly. It also contains cornflakes, sardines and even some stilton. Mrs Twit is equally as foul and she hates Mr Twit just as much as Mr Twit hates her. The Twits really are the most spiteful and revolting couple you could ever hope to meet. They spend their days playing wicked tricks on each other and mistreating Muggle-Wump monkeys. They also have a particularly sticky trick to catch Roly-Poly birds for their bird pies. But not for much longer, because the monkeys have a cunning plan to teach those terrible twits a lesson. Directed by Max Webster (The Lorax at The Old Vic), this mischievous new show promises to be just as disgusting and repulsive as earth worms disguised as spaghetti – the perfect treat for all the family.

Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet returns to Aylesbury after a triumphant debut with a magical production of one of the best-loved Russian ballets, Swan Lake. This youthful company combines classical training and superb artistry with dazzling choreography, delightful costumes and stunning sets, to present a truly mesmerising performance, complemented by the thrill of a live orchestra. Swan Lake is Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, a tragic tale of love and betrayal accompanied by a glorious and instantly recognisable score. This is the epic story of Prince Siegfried and his love for Odette who, tricked by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart and his daughter Odile, would rather die together than live apart. Principal dancers are subject to change.

‘THE BEST DANCE ACTORS IN THE WORLD’ DANCE EUROPE

Divided by a barbed wire fence, Bruno doesn’t understand anything about where Shmuel lives, or who he is. To him, he’s just a new friend – a boy wearing a pair of striped pyjamas. As this unlikely friendship blossoms against the backdrop of the unthinkable events of World War II, Bruno’s childlike curiosity leads this poignant story to a devastating conclusion. The UK’s foremost narrative ballet company, Northern Ballet, present this heartbreaking story through dance for the very first time. Based upon The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne by special arrangement with Miramax.
