JUNIOR TERM ABROAD A step by step guide to the application process


JTA APPLICATION PROCESS Inquire about the available schools and slots abroad from your respective JTA Coordinators. They are as follows:

Pay OIR Processing fee (Php 10,000) to confirm your slot. Please see attached form for submit the pink copy of your receipt to your JTA Coordinator. The JTA Coordinator sends the final list of confirmed JTA students to OIR. Wait for the OIR to contact you for your scheduled application briefing. *Make sure that your contact details in AISIS are updated. Drop by the OIR on your scheduled application briefing *Application Briefing – Briefing for your study abroad application. Submit your application requirements to OIR on your scheduled deadline. Wait for the acceptance letter sent by your host JTA University. OIR will contact you once they receive your acceptance documents. Meanwhile, you may start preparing for your visa requirements. You will have to process your own visa applications. All JTA students are required to attend the pre-departure seminars conducted by the OIR. This includes: Cultural Sensitivity, Country Briefing and Information Session with previous JTA students. Schedules will be announced by the OIR accordingly. Once you obtain your acceptance letters, you may now start processing your visa applications. Proceed to your JTA Program. ACTUAL JTA PROGRAM: Once you’ve finalized your courses at your host university, JTA students are required to send a copy of your LEARNING AGREEMENT FORM to the OIR immediately.


SPECIAL REMINDERS  Your passports should be valid 6 months after your JTA Program. This is in compliance with the

immigrations SOP. If you need to renew your passports, photocopy the old one and place a note that it is subject for renewal. Submit a renewed copy to the OIR immediately. Fall Semester tentative duration – September to December (Your passport should be valid 6 months after December) Spring Semester tentative duration – January to May (Your passport should be valid 6 months after May)

 Join your JTA’s respective YahooGroups. We will announce the YahooGroups address during

your application briefing.

 OIR will send you announcements and updates about your JTA updates. Always check your

email, yahoo group and cell phone.

 OIR will only process the requirements for your JTA host university. You will have to process

the following on your own:  Passport  Accommodations (If the school doesn’t offer any on-campus accommodations)  Visa  Flight Booking  Insurance

 You are required to get TRAVEL AND HEALTH INSURANCE. Make sure that it is accredited by

the respective embassies of your JTA host country.


PRE PRE--DEPARTURE REQUIREMENTS  You have to submit the pre-departure forms to OIR:  Class card  Clearance to leave  Waiver of Liability  Commitment letter  Activity evaluation survey  Copy of renewed passport  Copy of visa  Copy of flight itinerary  Copy of insurance  Address abroad

*The first five documents will be uploaded in your respective JTA Yahoogroups. Deadlines will be announced at a later date.


ADDITIONAL JTA REQUIREMENTS 

LEARNING AGREEMENT You will need to have both pages signed by your program director before you leave. On the first page, include the subjects that you were pre-approved to take. The second page’s list of courses must be left blank, and should only be completed when you are already at your JTA host university. It should consist of the FINAL approved courses. Should there be any change of courses, inform your program director a.s.a.p. Once completed, you may send a faxed/ scanned copy of your learning agreement to us ASAP. (This is done when you get to your host university already).

RETURNING JTA REPORT AND ESSAY All returning JTA students are obliged to submit a Returning JTA Report and Essay to the OIR on the scheduled deadline. Should you fail to comply with this requirement, we will hold your transcript and grades until you are able to submit the aforementioned requirements.

TRANSCRIPT Your transcripts will be sent to the OIR a few months after your JTA. We will inform you at once when to drop by the OIR to get a copy of your transcript. Should your transcripts be delivered directly to your home address, kindly submit the original document to the OIR asap. We will be in-charge of forwarding the original document to the registrar’s office. PROCESS FOR CREDITING JTA TRANSCRIPTS:  Provide 2 photocopies of your transcript.  Get a validation form from the Registrar’s Office.  Attach the validation form to one of the transcripts  The transcript with the validation form should be given to:  FOR JGSOM students: Program Director  FOR SOSE, SOH and SOSS students: Department Chair 5. The second copy of your transcript should be given to:  For JGSOM students: Dean’s Office  For SOSE, SOH and SOSS students: JTA Coordinator

SCHOLARSHIPS ASEAN UNIVERSITY (AUN) CREDIT TRANSFER SCHEME Through the ASEAN Credit Transfer Scheme, a student may apply to a university in the ASEAN University Network, composed of the top universities of each ASEAN country. Application is competitive, and the final decision regarding acceptance rests with the host university. Ateneo de Manila gives a partial study grant to five students each school year who successfully apply to an ASEAN university other than a university in Singapore, through the ASEAN Credit Transfer Scheme. For the JTA 2013 program, the grant is PhP50,000.

TEMASEK FOUNDATION LEaRN PROGRAM The Temasek Foundation in Singapore offers grants to student-leaders from all over Asia to study at universities in Singapore for a semester and participate in extra-curricular activities organized by the Temasek Foundation. Students are chosen by Temasek Foundation based on their leadership potential and on academic performance. Applicants must have a minimum QPI of 3.0.

JASSO SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is available for qualified international students accepted by Japanese universities, graduate schools, or colleges of technology under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis from about three months to one year. The student MUST hold nationality of countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan. They should NOT hold nationality of Japan. The monthly stipend may change by the budget of for every financial year. For the past few years, a monthly stipend of 짜80,000 per month is granted to selected students.
