Story L1 The lecur spoke a lot about a designer’s ability and the real world at least that what I took away from it Liz Lerman spoke about the relationship between an artist and their abilities in correlation to the world although i can’t remember her exact words however the statement she mad got me thinking of how as designers we must participate in the world mr.Daniel Roumain mentioned a piece he wanted his son to hear of a cop and composer embracing this furthered my idea on designers the image i took is of a painting which hangs in my home it was made by an unknown artist but it dipics part of the mountes from where i grew up in colorado. This painting brought a lot of what was talked about in the lecture to mind it made me think of the power artes have which is the power to express what they see in the world to express how they see the world or even how they wish to see the world just as mr.Roumain wanted his son to see cops and composers together in a certain way designers can show people the butes and horrers inthe worled. However this also made me think of how important it is for designers and artists to be part of what’s going on around them because just as the paintings beauty was influenced by area the painter was looking at designers are inspired by what’s happening around them. A designers work can be affected by what is happening around them as well as how a designers work can affect the world around them I took away from this lecture the idea that designers have the opportunity and ability to show the world through their eyes and to affect the world around them hopefully for the better by helping get people interested in something that can help everyone or by simply showing a single person that to people in very different perfections can still do great things together.

Story L2 5

In the lecture given august 28th we discussed how to reflect on the lectures and topics as well as the discussion of the kit of parts and “i am” statements. The kit of parts as I understood it was for example like having a group of people if you have them all the same material to work with then they’d ech create something different yet similar. Similar in the way that all the creations are made or derived from the same material or kit but different in the way that each individual put the Part of the kit together. From there we talked about i am statement this part got me thinking to me the i am statement we like my picture a mirror reflecting back on itself which to me portrayed a person reflecting on there self and like a mirror when it’s reflected on it self you see it in almost like different depths representing the different i am statements it not always easy to rely know who you are or what you want to do with your life often people may present you and this think you work or do the exact opposite of what you really do as they say looks can be deceiving however we you see a designers work it like the reflection or the i am statement part of that designers art there styal personality the vision goes into what there doing form the lecter i took away a sense of knowing who you are can help one know what it is they should do or what it is there inspired to make. In this ways my image shows what in the lecture inspired the picture and what i took away from the lecture it difficult to understand oneself to reflect on yourself and just know who you are and what your i am statements are in a way i think that is the i am statement make up our kit of parts in a sense the our path our designs and who this statement make us is the final product because even if you have all the same interest and hobbes as someone else that doesnt mean youll do the same thing with what inspires you as they will.

Story L3 On fridays lecter we listened to amazing music and listened to an instrument known for classical music playing like an electric guitar and a D.J. reminding me now of what Daniel Roumain saide “tradition is nothing but an old innovation waiting patiently to be made new again” as well as to always have a question and a comment. These quotes got me thinking of an old lecter from a class last year about how a lot of games we have today are just modern takes on old traditional games the lecter friday emphasised the importance of the story behind everything but that doesn’t mean you should accept it you should have a conversation about it questioning it and taking the traditional ideas and making them new so that there a chance to show the possibilities and the beauty something that’s been around forever. My image that inspired me was a chair the chair has been around for the longest time however it’s been redesigned over and over again tacking on a slew of shapes yet its origins the shape of the first that some how can still be seen in any chair the modern version just make the original innovation better and show the beauty in the creation and the many possibilities that people have seen for it over the countless time the idea has been around. When I think of tradition I think of someone saying don’t reinvent the wheel but without questioning and original design there is no making it better in order to improve on something you first must question every part of it because sometimes even the smallest change can have the greatest impact.

Story L4 In the last lecter the class stepped out of the classroom and into the open area of red square in order to have a more free conversation with those around us focusing on listening and telling our story in a way that’s strayed from the norm of the list of facts one usually answers that question with. giving a brief story of a moment with the setting being our place of origin as i listened to my classmates tell me the story i realized the difference in telling the facts versas the short story. In telling the facts it asif you just absorbing data the person’s name is this and they grew up in such and such place but when lisens to a person’s story a moment from the past you don’t really know exactly where there from but you get a sense of by the way they tell their story you can begin to form an idea of there emotional attachment to the place they grew up in by the way thes spec of the place and how they talk about the significance of the story. Towards the end of the lecture the professor talk about how everyone is there own manchareter and foe the most part i believe everyone knows that but doesn’t always remember it we focus a lot on or selfs thinking of what we have to do next or thinking if how we got to where we are i don’t believe many people take a moment to stop a jus look a someone anyone and make them self how did they get here how do they see the world.l my image was taken at work during a job i looked at the people working beside me i just began to think of the lecter and all i could think about is how did they get here wat was there story was it joyful or was it a story of hardships ig i would never really know everyone’s story or how they see the world because of their experiences however now i always wonder whenever i see someone i think whats there story how did they get here.

Story L5 this week the lecter was on people are beautiful the reding was sugjestive of plce in relation to people and seeing ones self or more of thous of the place seeing them selfs ther story and backround with pride knowing what it is there story is where they came from and thinf of that nater along with the lecter we watched a video the strong worded and narrotiv of the video where ingrand in to me but not as a memory more of a feeling of strong emotion and it this strong emotion that ones story cna mack you feel that can chany someone profoundly for my image i chos a picter i took at work because much lice the lecter i dont remember a lot of that dsay but i remember the wave of emotio a dreed i felt when looking at all i hade to do.

Place L6 In the last lecture, the topic of culture and story of indiganes people incorporated into architecture by focusing on getting to know the community and listening to their storeys in person in order to create something that has a true connection to the community to the people who will be primarily using the structure after the letter i began to think a lot about my own family and the culture and traditions that my family and my culture have passed down my image is of my grandfather whenever he’s around he tells everyone about the stories from the village where my father grew up the stories of the history of the village. Stories are tails of everything that matters to someone every thing worth remembering story can also be exaggerated tacking a great event and making it seem as amazing as it felt in that moment if found it fascinating to learn about how indiganis people have such deep meaning to the way things are done such as the significance of the positioning of each of the polles of the tipi the importance of things to others is something you munds listen and learn and it importance when designing in my opinion is one of the most important without it something that at first may seem like a good idea may come off as offensive or rude because of the lack of knowing the story revealing the depermening behind something. One of the big questions was what story archeteccher shouled tell the story of the indgenes people filled with history and drems is what inspiers me to tell the storys pased down verbaly to design and give it shape and aloowet to liven withen a design for years

In the last lecture we talked about story in the whey of multiple naretiv the difference in one person’s story cousin faules ideas of a group based on that story we talked about the need for the story of many in order to get beyond all the individual fact to get to the truth of a group during the lecture we went over quotes of different ways to view design through story and multiple narratives. When thinking of the idea discussed in the lecture I began to think of the representation of story as was discussed I thought of it as a window when you listen to a single story it’s as if looking through a small window at a beautiful landscape you see it however you only see part of the outside but ass you listen to more stories and learn more the window begins to expand and reveal more and more of the outside landscape juas as in knowing more stories gives sight of the bigger picture as well as giving a designer a better way to design for a bigger variety of people in that same way we also learned that many times no matter how many stories you listen to inorder to truly sympathise with a community you can’t and have to reach out and ask for help from someone who cna relay or simethis with a group in order to truly understand the feeling behind the story. over all the man parts we discused was the need to gather a grater nomber of storys in order to better see the whole truth and also to know that you wont be able to simpathiz with everything or everone so you have to rech out to comunets and other desiners who can simpathis this a sertant comunety

L8 In today’s lecter we began the study of place the topic of place was describes a being wide place being infanes as can be or as small as a single chair its size varies and place isn’t always your current location but at times just a place of significance as well as learning more about our own demre place and thing we need to consider about learning about a location more importantly how we can learn about a place through firsthand accounts online information and experiencing a place for ourselves when think of the lecture i thought about the idea of place being so vast in its perspective of size my image is that of a model world on a table this reminded me about the lecture the image represents place in the sense that place doesn’t have a detriment size in the meaning of design place can be as big as the planet or as small as just a table. Although place is more than that place is also something that can change who we are such a growing up in a place that’s called you become more ustu the cold. place changes from place being significant such as your home or burning where something significant happened or being more literature such as a location where you may be or a place where you and to be. The last lecter began out study in to place and i represented what i learned with my planet image representing what i took from the lecter that place is many things its vast and can very in the details of its meaning

In the last lecture we discussed place in relation to indiganes people we about how place is viewed by indigenes people in the lecture place is described not as a location but more of how one may describe a person or thing in the lecture place is described as a teacher it is also described as kinship and as a partner for the adventures through the world place take on a more spiraterl view giving place a sense of being something with a soule where as in previous lectures place was more based around places as a location and how to find information about that location. As for my image I chose to show an image of grass when thinking of place in a more personal way I began to think about constants in all the places I go so i picked grass because it’s the one thing that’s everywhere we go in a way it one of the many constants that still connects us to the earth and in a way represents freedom of a place in my mind my image represents what place is in this lecture not just a place but a guide a partner a feeling place in relation to the indiganes world holdes deeper meaning and represents a greater connection between people and the world around them and in compases a large variety of meanings in the same way grass is thought of just a patch in someone’s backyard or as an endless open plan stretching farther than one can see. Daniel came in to talk about places we talked about two writers that fought for what they believed in and in the end where brutally executed for it in this lecture I realized that place home has a strong connection to one’s work even if the place we come from isn’t pretty however is is our home or our heritage we fight for and it is that which often influences our creativity theres our hundred of people fighting one batel or another through the use of the arts or by specing out in my opinion true bravery is when you speak out against cruelty beyond that is speaking agent theous that are cruel and sighing you name to it. It’s hard not to be afraid of the violence and the apprestion but specing out and letting everyone know is even more frightening however those who use the art and use their wired to fight for what’s right never seem to hide they want people to know that there fighting to encourage others to also stand up the righters death and life from my understanding sparced talk among people geingt them to stand up and a time it’s hard when those you stand up agents may be

In the last lecture we went to watch the rehearsal of the asu orchestra if i’m not mistaken it was a performance focusing on Pisces primarily written by minorities the music we heard was amazing and very deep talking about struggle of having to take responsibility at a young age and such i apologize for anything I get wrong. It was such an honor to see the first dress rehearsal and the dynamic of the orchestra and all the moving parts in the theater the musicians playing looking up as everything else fades and all you notice is the stage and the music the musicians almost seem frozen in time, then you see the slight movements of each player as they look at their instrument then up to the music at each note they play then up to the cinduter keeping tempo counting one, two , three , four , all occurring in an instant you see the serianes of the theater every one seeming to be focused on there part of the hole you see at the beginning of the rehearsal a tension that fades as soon as they start to play the singer began to dance a little as the get more and more confident with the music the performance was amazing to see such talented musicians

L12

In the last lecter liz talked to us about the process of citicing someones work how to properly catic someone in a respectful manner without opinions which is more difficult that one may think the process shown to us id meant to give feedback that can help improve someone’s work without assuming something or just being meain be some doesn’t personally like the work she told us that criticism must be taken and ignored depending on that whether it be helpful or personal you start by telling the artist what was good what worked next the airtes ask question about to the critic staying on topic then the critic gets to ask these question aging staying on topic and asking what inspired the work and such the question must be voided ot the critics opinion lastly you give your opinion only if the artes want to hear it the best feed back as liz said is one that gets you wanting to get back to work this process is intended to create a small connection between critic and artist in order to better give a reserve work and is worked it’s better to hear what someone has to say about you work when they know what it is you trying to represent for my image i did and image of my art and me hiding behind it because i feel this represents how sometimes we hide behind our work shown our thought and emotion that way making it hard to take criticism.

In the last lecture michael talked about his experiences when he was younger he talked about his time working with the homeless specifically those who were hiv positive which at the time was majer taboo affected his plans as a designer he spoke of our individual purpose as in what we want to do with the skills we obtain what do we do once a leave college where do we want to go in our career who do we ant to work for what do we want to work on and so on i found this lecter almost comforting because michael reminded me that not knowing the answers to these daunting questions ws ok the as we group as people and as designers our views and hands will change dramatically during the letch we created a sort of graphs the first listed four thing what brings us joy, what do we want to contribute, where do we and to be, who do we want to work for by answering this question we move to a second graph which illustrates a business we ant to create your start by stating you business then the types of projects you want to do the callegens you will have to overcome in relation to this business and project and finally the project design by using these graphs you can prepare for things like what you want to do in the future and how to realistically obtain that or when you do start your career and you working on a project you can prepare for challenge the may or may not lie ahead for my image i chose one of a field at night much like the future you can see the friend of the challenges that lie ahead clearly but that actual field may still be shrouded in darkness and is hard to see exactly what lies beyond. 19

L14

In the this lecter with Maria talked about purpose and practices in sepres terms talking about the different thing that gives us our purpose in our practise as purpose there was need, passion , talent, context, under practise there was context and opportunity, perches and levels, methods ,gift, and assessment she talked about the combination of these things and how that is what gives some designers the purpose and practices per say this reminds me of one of the building being constructed by ASU a large tower it’s something that looks like the buildings around it and its pupars is not something in common however someone must have design that building maybe using the very method i am learning about and comding there’s topics of purpas and practices in order to design that building to the best of their abilities these topics under purpose and prices to me are similar to responses to do a project whether is a common building or a out of this world type of creation it all just so you put as much effort into the repetitive painting as you do into the masterpiece.

In the last lecture wanda started by talking about how in many designs of a space are often used in ways not originally intended by the designer space is taken over by the people and used in a way that they see necessary she late transitioned into talking about community and democratic design a form a design in which the community or those using the space macke all major choices on the creation of the space in order to create spaces necessary for those using the space without input of an outside party who may or may not understand the need of a group or community in my image is a grass are at the temple camps just outside of the design north building this space most likely way intended as a green space adding some greenery to the concrete jungle that is ASU however time and time again as i walk from class to class teacher ar students using the space as a form of napping area this reminded me of the beginning of the letter a perfect example of the community taking over a space and using it in a way that wasn’t originally intended for that space it show how important it is as designers to understand the need to communicate with those you are designing for and how amazing it is the space and trans form in an almost evolutionary way changing with communities to function for purposes beyond it intended design. For my image I chose one of my worked of art when I drew it I ended drawing something completely unintended from my original idea.

in the last lecter michael taled about the plan he created a chart and asced us about our plan hwat we wanted for the futer what our drems for our carers where he asked what we thought our perfect projec wouled be the perfec client and a bisness we wouled want to stat its name and purpas in the end i dident knowe a singal thing not what i wnated to do or what the perfect enthing was and i know the point was to get uds to preper and think ahed but i couled thing beyond that moment that lecter that siet it was reashering when he sad thats it was ok to not know the ansers to questions yet but the feeling of dred of not knowing where you want to go or what you wnt to do is beyond disciption however it seem thew now we a constantly looking ahed our minds moore open to the posibelitys of the futer an what may be to come and what we want to be in our futer the pathes we want to tack become easyer to see

L16

22

L17 in thae last lecter liz taled about the proces for crativ thinking by crating a form of crativ grid that combinds an asormant of topics that may seem to not conec with one another this proces of crativ thinking is a usfal tric to ferther develap our creativ carers along with this liz also sjowed us that we needded to learn to questton our self to beter devallap as creativ thinkers and crtiics sh had us be ohnest to our selfs wich is hard to do crticing your self is hared becaus some time your not willing to be complety ohnest wyt hyour self .

23

L18 In the last lecter maria talked to us about civic life thought the lecter the piont that came across was responsebilaty for the work one dose for comunety or indivisual the need to think of the effcts about what everthing dos seem to be more than cler in this section as designers that have a responsibilaty for the futer of our communetys because we will desgin it.

24

L19 In the last lecter we seperated in to groups and given topics to discuss we had to come up with an event fore our topic and how we wouled get our idea out to the pubic who wouled fund it and such for my groups topic we decided on the idea of a social media event patnering up with comunetys and big name comanys and infencers to spred the idea this concept was low cost and proven to be efectev we learen that ita importnanto get your ideas out there rether than let them sit in a portfolio and never see the light of day.

danel brout in a gest speker lemon andeerson a wrighter they tled about civicc life and the respoonsibilaty designers have to the people we have to tack responsibilaty for the work we do as well as use our position as desiner to forwared real chang in the worled both lemon and daniel tlaked of some of the progects they worked on together such as work for nicke creating a poem and music for a nicke charedty shoe releas lemon shared poems that spoke about his past the hard ships culteraly and family we also wached a video of a mother with hopes of success and happenes for her son rased without a fater and looking for somone to fill that voied and ending with a life behind bares but still an everloving mother we spent a larg par of class analizing this video and ending with one of lemons poems.

IN the last lecter we taled about the difrent types of knowlegand what exatley they are wether its the tyep of kowleg you get frome experiance oculter school storyes we discused the importance of ech forme of obtaning knowleg during the lecter we mwnley focused on culteral knowleg we taled about hawaiis culter and the declin inther heritage knowleg being praserved and passed on we taled about a scientes that was reviving the old tradition of navigating recreating the oled styal bots and saling it around the worled in the same maner tha native hawaiiens did long ago showing the value and importance of this grat tradition

L21

26

L22 in the last lecter liz taled about the diffrence between knowleg adn wisdoe through out the lecter i thought about that alot in my minde i see knowlege as a moderin building new and beautifule and wisdome as a a fores with lare trees after lizes lecter i took the picter of a crane of one ig the buildings being costruced at ASU and infront the two trees wich remind me that some times knowleg is kowing when to use what you learned and when to act frime the experiance if wisdome.

L23

In the last lecter we descused the probles with the diffrent methodes of aquiering knowleg instutution, athoruty, rationalisam, empircisam, and the scientific methoued they all have theres posetivs we descused of how to aply thess methouds in to classes and the cones that doing so may have one plus side that waas comenly heared was the hands on opertunety some of the methoudes may have however some of the methoueds take away frome the creative proces however i took away frome this lecter the value of looking a problems frome diffrent prospectivs and diffrent wayed of knowleg in order to get a better understanding of a problem in order to solve it because you cant look a somthing the same way over and over agin and expect to find the solution you have to look at it frome a diffrent angal.

28

L24 IN the final lecter we taled to michael an daniel as they had a conversation though actng and muisc they talked about what do you know the talked about the knowleg we obtain and how we obtain it ther conversation consited of five parts act one was what you know because some one wanted you to know act two was what you think you know act three was what you know becaus of your place in the worled four and five we talked to a partner on what we neet to know and look back at our ansers to the previas questions this lecter remnded me of weh as a kid i wehn driving with my parent a wouled see abuilding deing built and we wouled gess what it wouled be jst like the lecter thers all this kowleg we ganing andsometimes we inerpret the kowleg and gess right and some times where wrong but is beautifal to see that building when it in the middal when you still have to gess what it will be because i feel that thats like life we learn and guess every step of the way as we become who where mwnt to be.
