Koen Verhoef Koen Verhoef is the head of the Technology Transfer Office of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI-AVL) in Amsterdam.
Koen studied Biology at VU University in Amsterdam (1993) and went on to earn a PhD in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam (1999). During his post-doctoral scientific career he received two EMBO fellowships which allowed him to perform research at the University of Heidelberg (1998-1999) and at Oxford University (2000-2001).
In 2001, Koen Verhoef started as a Technology Transfer Manager with MRC Technology, the commercialisation company affiliated with the Medical Research Council in London, UK. In 2003 he moved back to the Netherlands where he founded the Technology Transfer Office at VU University medical centre and subsequently at VU University, which organisations he left in 2009 to become head of tech transfer operations at NKI-AVL.
Koen is currently serving on the board of ASTP where he has particular responsibility for finance and communications.
