1 Trend Analysis Sustainable Spray-On Clothing Turns Into Fabric Instantly

Less, but Better

Over the past few years, spray-on body paint that looks like clothing has gotten popular. It’s even starting to show up in television ads and other marketing endeavors. This is the first time though that I’ve seen actual spray-on clothing. In other words, this isn’t body paint. It’s actual clothing that comes out of the can in spray format, but solidifies on the body in a techno-fabric kind of way. Since the “fabric” can be broken down into a liquid and re-used over and over, this could become popular in the future.

The idea is to simplify, eliminating the obtrusive, while improving the end result. Some thoughts on applying this idea.

A mobile phone used to be a simple device for texting and calling. Then it became a smartphone boasting of Internet and camera functionalities. Now, the smartphone can be converted into a microscope through an attachable lens that can help magnify the object. One might wonder what the future would be like with a smartphone capable of projecting 3D holograms floating into thin air.

1 Technology Analysis 3D Printed Dresses

Go!SCAN 3D Scanners

Marvelous Designer : Cloth Sim

The Verlan dress is 3d printed by MarkerBot, now commercially available machine. The dress is the final result of the three-week digital fashion workshop held by fashion designer Fransis Bitonti, in New York. The theme of the project was not to design a piece of clothes but to design a method of making form using computers. Students therefore experimented with form-building software and created samples, using 3d printers. The workshop took place at the Digital Arts and Humanities Research Center of the Pratt Institute in New York.

Introducing the Go!SCAN 3D scanners: they’re very fast, delivering consistent high-quality 3D models in HD color. Through their highly intuitive process, these handheld, self-positioning systems can be used by anyone without prior experience or training. Their underlying technology accelerates the overall experience: no preparation or specific setup needed, large scanning area, fast measurement, and direct mesh output. The resulting 3D models can be integrated to any computer-assisted process like archiving, restoration, analysis or content creation.

Marvelous Designer allows you to create beautiful 3D virtual clothing with our cutting-edge design software. Marvelous Designer can virtually replicate fabric textures and physical properties to the last button, fold, and accessory. Interface, you can instantaneously edit and drape garments onto 3D forms with high-fidelity simulation.

FITBAY

Acustom believes that there should be a perfect fit for everyone, no matter their shape or size. What the fashion industry deems as imperfections are seen at Acustom as essential parts of you. Your body is as individual as you are—a shape to be to be expressed, so you can look and feel your best.

Like Stylewhile, Fits.me has developed a virtual fitting room product, which can be deployed as a tool on retailers’ websites. Shoppers input their exact measurements, which are used to create an avatar that can try on different sizes. Fits.me has also developed a “Fit Advisor” tool that draws on a user’s measurements and fit preferences (hey, not everyone likes their jeans super tight) to recommend the right size.

One of the many startups out there trying to make bra shopping somewhat less of a nightmare, ThirdLove’s app has its users take two photos of their breasts in a tank top — one from the front, one from the side — which it then uses to figure out what style of bra will fit best.

They want to position our brand as the fashion tech company that resolves the needs of our audience by leading the path in ground-breaking and unique solutions, that provide the right fit and simplify personalized shopping.

Fitbay connects people who have a similar body and style. Use the free app to capture your everyday outfits and discover fashion inspiration that’s right for you.

2 Technology Analysis New Health-Monitoring Mirror Displays Heart Rate

Innovative Smartphone App Tests Your Urine For Medical Issues

Marvelous Designer : Cloth Sim

MIT Media Lab developed a mirror that can monitor vital signs and show the inner health of the person standing in front of it. a When your heart beats, it sends a pulse of blood through your blood vessels and to your face. Because blood absorbs light, the mirror is able to use a simple webcam, the same as the one found in your laptop, to record the fluctuation in reflected light coming off your skin. Although the change in brightness is minute, the data can then be translated into a heart-rate reading via algorithm, and the results are instantly displayed right before a person’s eyes, empowering individuals to take the management of their wellness into their own hands.

Urine can be tested for the presence of 10 elements including glucose, proteins and nitrites. A smartphone app, Uchek, uses a phone’s camera to analyse urine and check for a range of medical conditions including diabetes, urinary tract infects, cancers, liver problems. Users need to collect their urine and dip a standard test strip into it. The strip is placed on a mat - supplied with the app and intended to normalise the colours on the stick regardless of lighting conditions where the photo is taken. Once the photo is taken the app will analyse which, if any, condition, the colour applies to.

San Francisco start-up Adamant Technologies has created a computer chip that can „take the sense of smell and taste and digitize them” (Sam Khamis, CEO) – means: your phone, computer or device can smell for itself. Possible applications are metabolic tracking, monitoring medical conditions like asthma or diabetes or test blood alcohol. A quick and efficient way to diagnose diseases like diabetes or lung cancer is being developed by KAIST. Their device uses a highly-sensitive exhaled breath sensor which can be mounted on a smartphone. Made of tin dioxide nanofibers coated with catalytic platinum nanoparticles, the sensor can detect the presence of acetone (a diabetes signal) or toluene (a lung cancer signal) even at concentrations of less than 100 parts per billion. Research / Common Chronic Condition

Common Chronic Conditions ASISTM Can Help With Diabetes

High Blood Pressure

Heart Disease

About 24 percent of men and 18 percent of women older than 65 are living with diabetes, a significant senior health risk. Diabetes can be identified and addressed early with simple blood tests for blood sugar levels.

The truth is that HBP is largely a symptomless condition. If you ignore your blood pressure because you think symptoms will alert you to the problem, you are taking a dangerous chance with your life. Everybody needs to know their blood pressure numbers, and everyone needs to prevent high blood pressure from developing.

Heart disease affects 37 percent of men and 26 percent of women 65 and older. As people age, they’re increasingly living with risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, that increase the chances of having a stroke or developing heart disease.

Obesity

Cancer

52 million Americans are affected by low bone mass or osteoporosis, putting them at risk for a fracture or break that could lead to poor senior health and reduced quality of life.

About 40 percent of adults 65 to 74 years old are obese, although that proportion drops somewhat after age 75, to 27.8 percent. Obesity is an important senior health risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer

Cancer is a group of diseases that can cause almost any sign or symptom that will depend on where the cancer is, how big it is, and how much it affects the organs or tissues. If a cancer has spread (metastasized), signs or symptoms may appear in different parts of the body.

Common Symptoms

Common Symptoms

I keep a red tag on the floor to remind myself to press a button every morning showers are the most dangerous place for people my age in the case of slipping; I dislike showering

when you’re older, privacy is less of a concern Oh yes, I’d be curious to see all the data it collects

Advanced VxD Studio | 2015 FALL

Assisted Bathroom / Interview 4 what health issues do you have?

blood pressure and I can see the benefits of monitoring it

how do you monitor your health?

I don’t need monitoring; I know myself; if I don’t feel well, I’ll go to the doctor.

how do you feel going to the doctors?

what concerns do you have with the bathroom space?

what do you do to combat safety concerns in the shower?

how can we improve the bathroom?

what health tracking device do you have if you do so?

how do you feel using technology?

how do you think other seniors feel using technology?

what are your feelings about a health tracker in the bathroom?

are you curious with the health data the bathroom gets?

how do you feel sharing that health data with doctors?

bath tubs are dangerous: high thing to step over and a slippery curved bottom

I had a pedometer; you had to be a rocket scientist to use that thing, but an automatic blood pressure would be nice if the monitor is hidden away, that would be fine so guests couldn’t see it

grab bars and anti-slip floors are great; there’s a corner shower seat, but I don’t use it yet

I’m a Google freak; I’m getting an iPhone just so I can google anywhere

I don’t know that I have to see my info; I don’t care; healthcare providers worry about that

doctor checkups, they’re in a pain in the neck a bathroom device replacing the button we press every morning that detect our presence in it technology here is a polar thing—there’s no interest or they love it; most moving in in their 70s love it to keep to date doctors have all that information already, more couldn’t hurt

Assisted Bathroom / Interview 5 what is your morning bathroom routine?

brush teeth, wash face, comb hair

how frequently do you clean your bathroom?

the counter is cleaned everyday; the toilet is cleaned 1-2x per week

what problems do you have with the bathroom?

what daily steps do you take to manage your health?

what health issues do you have?

I’ve had a cataract surgery and spinal surgery to remove a tumor in the neck

how often do you get a checkup?

twice a year and I don’t mind it

how do you feel about medical checkups?

how do you feel using technology?

what are your feelings about a health tracker in the bathroom?

eat well and exercise 3 times a week at the gym I don’t mind them

I use an iPad and iPhone to play games, text and send emails

when I shower I worry about slipping

haven’t thought about it

“It’s difficult to get information. There’s a bunch of privacy laws that doctors interpret differently.” Tatsuya | Elaine | Tyler | Astha

Advanced VxD Studio | 2015 FALL

Assisted Bathroom / Interview 6 who in your family was in assisted living?

how was info about your father delivered to you?

my father was in assisted living for about 5 years in Connecticut

I mostly got info about him through my sister and his doctors; the info from my sister was cursory, biased, inaccurate

how accurate was the info provided?

what is your opinion on the communication system there?

how do you want the data to be presented?

how often do you want an update on your dad’s health?

how do you want the data delievered?

how do you feel about the facility there?

there was so little information at all; it was hard to know its accuracy

I want records, charts doctor’s summary opinion now and then and to hear from nurse accompanying him maybe see it on a dedicated app, or an e-mail summary; nurses can report on engagement

to get info about him I’d have to call and jump through hoops and locked doors; their reports were unrelialbe

daily or weekly updates; something like daily averages; less raw data— have it processed

I had a lot of distrust in the facility especially them processing my dad’s data; it should be processed off-site

did you get all the info you needed about your dad?

it’s difficult to get information; there’s a bunch of privacy laws that doctors interpret differently; I had one doctor who was treating him wrong, and she hid behind privacy laws and refused to talk to me at all

what info did you want to see from them?

I want professional summaries, a lot of the data I’m not qualified to understand, what measurements go into chronic, emerging, or receding problems and psychological health
