INSTRUCTIONAL AND LEARNING CONTINUITY AMID AND BEYOND THE PANDEMIC
by Lyca Idolor
Life must be a constant yes to God.
-St. Marie Eugenie of Jesus
In 2019, a group of dynamic people took on the challenge of supporting students, faculty, and staff in using the Google Workspace (formerly GSuite). This team has been hard at work, especially during the pandemic. They are our BTS (BehindThe-Scene) heroes who made online learning possible. They have extended their services beyond working hours to support the students, faculty, staff and our dear Assumption parents in navigating this now-normal learning. Furthermore, they have researched the best equipment to provide transformative quality education to our students. As a result, we have procured 77 Smart TVs, 14 TV stands, 18 web cameras, 13 portable chargers, 63 Soundcrafts, 108 wireless microphones, and 14 microphone stands. With that, Assumption College San Lorenzo is very grateful for their loving service.

Several exciting activities have given our P-12 students opportunities to develop one of AC’s 8 Prime Life Abilities, National and Global Citizenship.
The Center for Social Involvement has started conducting this year's Concrete Acts for Social Transformation (CAST) and immersions in various levels, allowing students to interact with multiple outreach communities. Students also implemented their plans. For example, inspired by their Social Studies lesson, our Gr. 5 students proposed a poster-making campaign to save the Sierra Madre. Meanwhile, our High School Community Involvement Committee Heads resumed face-to-face Serving on Saturdays (SOS) events. The first of this series of monthly initiatives was an animal feeding session at the PAWS Shelter in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Internationally, our Gr. 9 & 10 students had a chance to exchange ideas with their Singaporean peers in a virtual interaction followed by a Women’s Leadership Conference with Nanyang Girls’ High School. Finally, in the school’s first overseas trip since 2019, AC’s 6-person high school delegation to Yale Model UN Korea bagged two awards, a Best Delegate award for Ma. Victoria Amelita Therese Burgos (Gr. 12) and an Outstanding Delegate award for Andrea Mari Batac (Gr. 12).
As the school year continues, our students, faculty, and staff, will have many more chances to develop the Ability of National and Global Citizenship.

Exchange Students, Exchange Memories
by Jamsyn Salvaña
Assumption College has been exchanging students with Kobe College in Japan to enrich academic and cultural experiences in recent years. With its success, both women colleges continue to share students to promote understanding, respect, and goodwill.
Unfortunately, at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the institutions had to halt the exchange of students. In 2022, the program resumed sending two talented students from Kobe College on the First Semester of SY 20222023.
Assumption College reopened its doors to face-toface classes this academic year. Its once quiet hallways welcomed third-year Advertising and Public Relations students Hikaru Kamiya and Yuko Mikita from Kobe College.
Yuko’s path to AC was drawn by her interest in studying Communication alongside experiencing the Philippine culture. She found more positive people with much conversation to share.
“All the people were kind to me. I think that Filipino people are more positive than Japanese people because when Japanese meet new people, they're shy However, when I first moved to the Philippines everybody talked to me which was surprising,” she said, recounting the warmth of her AC peers that easily swayed her out of her shyness.
Hikaru, gladly called “HiKo” by her friends in the AC Dormitory, shared that her interest in the Philippine culture began in senior high school. “When I was a senior high school student, my English teacher was Filipino, so I got interested in the Filipino culture, and I wanted to improve my English skills,” she shared. She now tags this culture with AC peers she finds nice, gentle, and kind.
Hikaru joined The Assumption Dance Company (TADC) and frequently attended the Assumption Basketball team’s training. Yuko, who enjoys baking more than sports, gladly watched from the sidelines, making new friends and gathering support for her fellow student.
She found contrast for this gentleness in the Metro Manila traffic that one quickly pictures as an experience for all. “It's more chaotic than the traffic in Japan, but it's also more exciting,” she said. On the other hand, Yuko raised cleanliness, separating Japan from the Philippines in her meanderings of this culture. “Honestly, I think that Japan's places are cleaner than the Philippines’. In the Philippines, there are both clean places and not clean places. I think it is a societal problem,” she said.
Even then, Yuko laces her five-month stay lightly with the Filipino warmth and her new-found friends, to whom she attributes the joy she brings back to Japan. “Thanks to friends, I enjoyed everything,” she said. Hikaru packs with her the importance of connecting with people out of her initial loneliness that she and Yuko joyfully patched with new friends at a simple, “Come here.”

We are proud and grateful for our homegrown digital artist, Lily Paez. She is currently a Grade 11 student in the arts and design strand.
Being raised in a creative household, she grew to appreciate the arts. She has been passionate about drawing since she was a toddler. When she was around ten, she discovered digital art through her cousin. However, she only started digital art when she was twelve and received her first tablet from her parents. Since then, she has been trying to hone her skills through practice.
Besides art, she is also passionate about writing and fashion and enjoys biking. She usually creates art about original stories she make or for pre-existing stories that she loves. Her inspiration comes from her surroundings and fellow artists. Her art can be found on Instagram and in Unicef’s "Voices of Youth" program.
A LAUDATO SI CAMPUS
Assumption College, San Lorenzo has created an Institutional Laudato Si Committee championed by our former principal, Sr. Mary Ignatius Vedua, r.a. These "EcoWarriors" have developed different ways how to take care of our common home, and one of their goals is to lessen carbon footprints. With your help, we can procure solar panels that will save a maximum of 100kW per hour. This is just one of the five phases of the school's Green Project. Each phase installs at least 180 panels. However, we will need 720 more panels in order to turn Assumption as a Green campus completely.
The earth is a place of God's glory.

In loving memory of Sr. Mary Fidelis Estrada
by Cyril Cabrera
We fondly call her Sr. Fidelis or, for short, Sr. Fids. She would have celebrated her 60 years of religious life in 2025. June 27, 1967 was her first vows, and she has devoted 57 years in consecrated life as a Religious of the Assumption. She taught us how to live a life being mindful of our surroundings, especially of nature. One of her legacies apart from teaching Enneagram was her conviction towards the care and protection of Mother Nature by stopping SM Baguio from cutting the trees.
According to Sr. Arermar Eugenie Grantos, r.a. School Director of Assumption Iloilo, Sr. Fidelis managed to have a dialogue with SM Corporation to find the truth and address this matter accordingly. With the positive results of the discussion, everyone was very much grateful to Sr. Fids for setting things right, winning the hearts of the people and informing everyone that SM Corporation planted a hundred more pine trees in a watershed to replace those which have been cut down. Moreover, her love for animals was evident even in the smallest of them--insects, frogs, ants, and more. They matter as she would always says that every created being in this world is God’s creation and reflects something of God. When it comes to her personality, Sr. Fids was a very simple person. She always finds a way to help those who are in need. She is a Sister who always says “Yes” to every request from her Provincial Superior. She stayed peaceful, gentle and calm until the last minute. Sr. Aremar believed Sr. Fids had already fulfilled her earthly mission and was ready to be with God. Sr. Fids was not afraid of death since death is something one should not be fearful of but should look forward to when the right time comes. Towards the last days of her earthly life, Sr. Fidelis remarked: “I want to enter fully into God’s plan,” and she breathed her last. She now intercedes for all of us in heaven!
