ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 Dear Friends,

Assistance League’s Operation School Bell program. Shopping at Target for school clothes.

Assistance League of Houston had a very challenging 2019-2020 as we completed our 52nd year of serving our community on May 31, 2020. Our wonderful and dedicated members continued to ensure our philanthropic programs successfully operated even during the global pandemic that affected us all beginning in February. Even considering the safety precautions in place, our generous members donated well over 16,000 hours of their time to our organization and, thereby, our community. I applaud all of them for working so hard to make sure we reached those who needed our help so much! Like others, we endured setbacks as we were forced to close our Thrift Shop for a period of time, cancel scheduled fundraisers and react to the diminished cash flow. Even so, we continued to meet the increased pressing needs of the community. We made sure our assistance did not falter and we continued to transform lives and strengthen the Houston community through our efforts. Although the pandemic forced us to forgo some of the usual celebrations and events, such as the Scholarship Awards Breakfast, our Annual Meeting, the Crawfish Boil, and our Annual Fundraising event, we were there, behind the scenes, doing what we do best! I am deeply grateful for the honor of serving as your President during this Fiscal Year. To all of you who helped us help others, thank you for your commitment to Assistance League of Houston. Be safe. M.E. “Penny” Son 2019-2020 President Assistance League’s Action Week promoting literacy where a fun day of reading and distributing books took place. Activities and snacks were also on the agenda!

FINANCIAL SUMMARY Each year, the members of our chapter work diligently to raise the funds necessary to successfully operate our philanthropic programs. This is done through our Thrift Shop operations, a variety of fundraising projects, the grant writing committee, and the generosity of our members and community donors.
