AskkanwiiFilmmakingHub
Our mission is to incubate, train, and mentor filmmakers in Colorado and in the diaspora with programs that can help galvanize and provide opportunities for underrepresented young people with artistic skills and passions. Askkanwii means "community" in Wolof, the native dialect of Senegal.

Our main objective in creating a series is to capture the nuances of daily living in specific areas of Africa. Our hope is to deliver a current, realistic, and captivating series of stories that resonate with our own communities and educate others about modern life in Africa.

In a remote village in Benin, it is reported that some children are born with veiled faces. In the Nago tradition, this is considered a spiritual sign that the child is the embodiment of ghost or reincarnated soul. Called Ya aagan or Ojes, these children are celebrated in ceremony and revered forever.
