AskkanwiiFilmmakingHub

Our mission is to incubate, train, and mentor filmmakers in Colorado and in the diaspora with programs that can help galvanize and provide opportunities for underrepresented young people with artistic skills and passions. Askkanwii means "community" in Wolof, the native dialect of Senegal.

The continent of Africa has so many stories to share with the world. Our filmmakers are tapping into traditions and cultural experiences that are unique to their countries of origin.

Films

The creative process of concept design, script writing and making a film come to life is universal. Our African filmmakers showcase their talents and passion though unique techniques and approaches.

Series

Our main objective in creating a series is to capture the nuances of daily living in specific areas of Africa. Our hope is to deliver a current, realistic, and captivating series of stories that resonate with our own communities and educate others about modern life in Africa.

2023 Collection - In Development

In a remote village in Benin, it is reported that some children are born with veiled faces. In the Nago tradition, this is considered a spiritual sign that the child is the embodiment of ghost or reincarnated soul. Called Ya aagan or Ojes, these children are celebrated in ceremony and revered forever.

The Rocky Mountains region population is estimated about more than 12 million people from all over the world; and among them are thousands of immigrants and refugees from the continent of Africa.
