MANILA — The camp of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo challenged Sen. ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, May 25, to present evidence showing that certificates of canvass are not authentic. In a televised press conference, Robredo’s legal counsel Romulo Macalintal urged Marcos to show at least one election return that does not tally with any of the returns transmitted to the transparency server of the Com-

mission on elections. “Magpakita ka lang ng isang return, just one election return... That’s a way to contest an election return. Hindi po pwede ‘yung sasabihin na may dayaan, may vote buying,” Macalintal said. Macalintal said that they are confident that Robredo will win the vice presidential race based on the copies of all certificates of canvass and election returns that they have. “We are very confident that at the end of the day, at the completion of the canvass, it is our candidate who will be proclaimed as

the duly elected vice president of the country because we have seen the documents, our copies of the documents,” Robredo’s co-counsel and senator-elect Leila de Lima said. A fILIPINO man from Los Angeles wanted for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend last month has been named to the fBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives list. Philip Patrick Policarpio, 39, was charged with first-degree murder on April 22 in Los Angeles. Authorities have issued local, state and federal Philip Patrick Policarpio warrants for his arrest, Photo from FBI and are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. “His pattern is one of violence, and he is always armed,” said Special Agent Scott Garriola, a member of the fBI’s Los Angeles fugitives Task force. “He is the definition of a continuing threat to the community.” The fBI said the filipino fugitive may have traveled to Las Vegas and has family ties to the Philippines. During a card game last month with associates and friends, Policarpio got into an argument with his girlfriend who was 17 weeks pregnant. Separate proclamations of President, VP pushed ABAKADA Party list Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz maintained that the winners in the presidential and vice presidential elections may be proclaimed separately. When the Senate and the House of Representatives held a joint session on Tuesday, May 24, Dela Cruz, the campaign adviser of Sen. ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., proposed amending the rules of the canvass so that the President and Vice President can be proclaimed separately. His proposal was dismissed, however, and the rules were adopted without amendments. The lawmaker noted that the Certificates of Canvass (COC)
consist of two documents, one containing the votes for the President and the other the votes for the Vice President, thus, separate canvasses and proclamations are possible. “If the presidential canvass is uncontested, then the Presidentelect can be proclaimed separately from the Vice President,” he said. In the case of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte, dela Cruz added that the mayor can be proclaimed immediately after the joint congressional committee had tallied all the votes for him because all his rivals have conceded.
“There is no need for us even to go through the COC for the President,” he said. After adopting the rules, the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) started opening the ballot boxes containing the COC in preparation for the canvass of votes for the President and Vice President. Dela Cruz, however, said that since there are various issues that have to be looked into and several COC that have to be examined in the case of the vice presidential elections, the canvass should proceed. APPLICANTS for jobs in the incoming Duterte administration should include potential hangmen. Plenty of them. Successful applicants can expect to be busy a year after being hired, as the expected next Speaker of the House of Representatives, Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, estimates the restoration of the death penalty to take only a year after presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte assumes office on June 30. The revival of capital punishment is one of the top priorities of Duterte, who was elected on an anticrime platform, with a promise of wiping out criminality within three to six months of as-

“There will be changes for the country as promised in the campaign. There are gargantuan tasks ahead of us,” Alvarez, Duterte’s right-hand man in the
