MANILA — The Malacañang on Thursday, Aug. 10 assured the Filipinos in U.S. Pacific territory of Guam that there are contingency plans in place for the anticipated North Korea’s missile attack in the island. “The embassies and consulates in general, including the one in Agana, Guam, have contingency plans that are

regularly updated to enable them to respond to emergencies,” Presidential Spokesperson Abella said at a televised press briefing. “It’s pretty automatic that if there are any threats especially for those that are in affected areas, they have contingency plans for those things,” he added. Abella’s statement came after North Korea announced a detailed plan to launch a salvo of ballistic missiles to-

ward Guam, a major military hub and home to U.S. bombers, a move that if carried out would be its most provocative missile launch to date. North Korea’s announcement warned that it is preparing a plan to fire four of its Hwasong-12 missiles over Japan and into waters around the tiny island, which hosts 7,000 U.S. military personnel on two main bases and has a population of 160,000.

The demonstration was part of a public campaign launched on December 1, 2015 towards the caregiver agency which has been accused of exploiting and abusing its employees through unfair wages and intimidation. Former Health Alliance employee Rufina Tubo shared her experience of working with the agency in 2015. “I was paid for $150 a day for my live-in, 24hour stay job. If you calculate it, that’s only $5 an hour, even if there is already a law that provides protection for caregivers,” shared PAGE A3

AS a way to make a point to the Democratic People’s Republic Of Korea (DPRK), President Donald Trump on Tuesday, August 8 warned North Korea that if the country continues provoking the United States, it will not get away with it. During a photo op at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, the president escalated the long-standing hostility between the two nations when he declared, “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States.” He added: “They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen... he has been very threatening beyond a normal state. They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.” Trump’s jarring statements are likely a response PAGE A2
