Time Capsule The concept of time is invented by man. We can’t actually feel time passing, we can. Observe the passing of time through the changes in our environment or our physical self. When you’re in the ocean, you can feel time pass by physically, because wave keeps going over you, every few seconds. As waves brush against your body, you can feel the movement of time. In this picture, the girl is laying in the water with her eyes closed, as if she’s shutting down her sight so her other senses can be more sensitive. And with the spiral behind her, it looks like eventually, the spiral is going to suck her away. Just as time passes, our physical being eventually fades away.
Dream I live next to the hospital, so every night as I fall asleep while listening to my sound machine, I can always hear the sirens from the hospital screaming by. At first, it gave me anxiety, but then eventually it became a norm for me, falling into sleep with the mixture of calmness and anxiousness. Then I had this idea of a nightmare, as a child I was always afraid of someone coming into my room in the dark and take me away, so I inserted the footstep sound to show my deepest fear when I was a child. The video is called “The Attack”, is because since I’m no longer a child that’s afraid of something in the dark will take me away as I fall asleep. I start to get anxiety and panic attacks. And this video is my attempt to capture and recreate the feelings I felt while having a panic attack.
For my sequential recut I decided to focus on feminism. And how the leader of this country directly contradicts the movement that is going on. As women, our parents taught us from a very young age that we have to protect ourself, and that we have to be careful. And each day, we try to fight against inequality and sexual harassment, and yet the man people elected to lead the country can still say those things about women. Gloria Steinem fought against inequality in the 70s, now, almost 50 years later, Gloria Steinem still spoke at the women’s march, fighting for equality. This not only shows how we need to keep fighting for equality, but also that after 50 years, women still need to fight for their equality.
For this project I want to create an experience to provoke happiness. So I asked myseld, what little things in life can easily trigger people’s sense of happiness? And I remembered the feeling of laying on the grass looking at the sky, while the sun gentley shines upon me under the shade. Birds chirping and then I remembered the song hey Dellilah, a song that can easily make people sing along with it, the song is a love song to a girl, Delilah living in New York city, and that couldn’t be more fitting.
