Leatherhead Museum Opens 29th March On Saturday 31st March at 10.30am the Mole Valley Council Chairman, Councilor Bridget LewisCarr will arrive to open the museum to launch the 2012 Museum Season. The 2012 season will be one of special events and exhibits as outlined by Museum, featuring: “Beneath one’s Feet in Fetcham” This features evidence of flint working from the Stone Age in various parts of the Parish. Also there are finds from Roman times and a display of Saxon artefacts including the spears and the remnants of the famous Saxon bucket. (The replica of this remains one of the highlights of the Museum’s displays). “The Fetcham Mill Pond and the Mill” This is close to the site where Saxon objects were discovered in the 1930s. More recently, in 2009, the remains of a Roman Building were revealed. “Down(s) and out with the Tanners” The memorabilia and records of the “Tanners Marathon”, the run which was held annually for 50 years, ending very recently. [“Tanners” from “Tanners Hatch” and not the Football club!] Leatherhead Museum in Church Street, Leatherhead, will be open to the public from Thursday 29th March until mid-December. Its most popular features include, The Victorian Kitchen, The Well in the Garden and World War Two Memorabilia.
Opening times are Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm-4pm and Saturdays from 10am-4pm. Admission is free but donations are always welcome. 36
