My interests relate to the how the built environment impacts my life and the lives of others, now and in the future. I’m an “Eco Conscious” Interior Designer, meaning I believe in GOOD design; design that not only looks and feels exceptional but also works toward a regenerative future, which far exceeds the idea of simply “SUSTAINING” it. I’m a creative person who thrives on collaboration with other innovative personalities and opportunities to continuously grow and learn.

DESIGN PROFILE

I have been living and working in the dynamic city of Shanghai and have had the opportunity to collaborate and implement GOOD design on projects in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Canada and the US. I have been managing design teams on a variety of architecture and interior projects, including residential, commercial and hospitality, from design concept to construction completion. I am excited to re-enter the US design community and put my unique skills, passions and design philosophy to use.

Interior Architecture // FFE // Deco CLEARWATER BAY PENTOUSE

Sanya, Hainan Island, China 500sqm / 5380sqft 5 Ensuite Bedrooms Entertainment/Party Room 2 Living Rooms 2 Dining Rooms Massage Room Poker Room 2 Kitchens Study +Service Rooms

An ocean front vacation home located off the southern coast of China on Hainan Island. Originally three separate apartments, the now 450 sqm holiday haven spans the entire top floor of the luxury apartment building. The design focus drew from the natural tropical beauty of the surrounding area and views, aiming to create a connection between the outdoor and indoor environments. The material palette of wood, stone and minerals, was taken from basic Sri Lankan designs for durability in warm, humid climates. Bright clay wall treatments are offset by the warm, textured solid wood that runs throughout most of the residence. Polished concrete, honed travertine and hand troweled terrazzo complete the material list. The penthouse functions as a family vacation home, a cozy get-a-way retreat, a luxury resort, a kids party zone and an entertainment spot, while still feeling akin to the surrounding environment.

Koggala, Sri Lanka 200sqm / 2150sqft Open Community Room +Bar Dining Room 50m Infinity Pool Lake Front Access Green Roof Resort Services Pump Room Storage

A British professional nature photographer’s dream retreat located within the dense vegetation surrounding Koggala Lake in southern Sri Lanka. Pulling from the client’s love of nature and need for purpose and perfection, the core concept was developed around the nautilus and the golden ratio spiral. Overlaid onto the site plan, directing the main spiral toward the views of the lake, the nautilus gives geometrical purpose for the location of each building. The complete retreat design consists of seven guest houses, a water tower (which also houses the yoga and photography studio) and the main house, which serves as the architectural focus and entrance to the property. All of the spaces are meant to create a dynamic connection to the surroundings, crafting a series of indoor/outdoor spaces, where views can be appreciated for a full 360 degrees around. The materials are all indigenous to Sri Lanka, further enhancing the connection to the natural surroundings; local gray slate, teak wood, lime render, and soil for the rammed earth walls.

Interior Design // IAQ Evaluation ICICLE RESIDENCE

Shanghai, China 300sqm / 3230 sqft Open Living+Dining Master Suite 2 Ensuite Bedrooms Home Office Closed Kitchen Utility + Storage 2 Terraces Private Entry

A sustainable, modern, minimalist apartment in Shanghai emerged from the clients’ desire to match their personal lifestyle with that of their working image as progressive fashion designers, and owners of Icicle, the first organic clothing brand in China, the design focuses on creating a healthy, efficient and forwardthinking home that reflects the designs of their apparel. In order to achieve a high level of sustainable design in Shanghai, in addition to creating a modern and warm space, the material palette was limited to three heavily researched materials; untreated local elm, American Clay earth plaster, and poured in place terrazzo. With the addition of energy efficient lighting, AC and HVR systems, the post-construction IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) test results were exceptionally good for a build in Shanghai, showing better air quality inside versus outside.

Architecture // Facade STARBUCKS CHINA

Various Locations, China Various Facade Types Material Selection Windows/Doors Threshold Stairs Logo/Signage Details

To integrate an American iconic brand into cities across China, a methodology was established to develop the façade and signage design. The ‘kit of parts’ is distinctly recognizable as Starbucks, yet allows for flexibility of a variety of façade types, and can also be easily replicated in all future stores by their in-house design team. The key element of the façade concept was based on a modular system using a series of Fibonacci numbers to establish the base pattern. The base can be overlaid onto any façade from which variations of the design are created. Rules for the pattern were established to reinforce continuity between all the facades: 1) The pattern always centers at the human connection, the entry. 2) The entry breaks the pattern, creating a threshold between exterior and interior. 3) Maintaining focus on the human scale, special attention given to the detailing and craftsmanship around the threshold, especially the door handle and signage. 4) Logo hierarchy and placement also follows the Fibonacci numbers.

Renovation // Facade // Interiors // Deco GAOLAN RD. VILLA

French Conession, Shanghai, China 380 sqm/ 4090 sqft 3 Floors + Mezzanine Open Living+Dining+Kitchen Open Ensuite Master 3 Ensuite Bedrooms Media Room & Study 20sqm Garden Closed Chinese Kitchen Nanny and Service Areas

This 1930s lane house in the Former French Concession of Shanghai is in the process of being transformed from a rundown six-family dwelling, back into a high-end 380sqm single family home. A modern rendition of 1930s Shanghai-French style, the subtle palate of white paneling and oiled white oak creates an elegant and sophisticated feeling while also allowing the space to function as a gallery for the clients’ extensive colorful art collection. The wall paneling is taken into modernity with deliberate wall ‘cut outs’ that create an open plan, while maintaining the distinction between old and new. A 40sqm extension contains the luxurious, open master bathroom on the second floor and an en suite guest bedroom on the third floor. The once hidden high ceilings of the third floor are exposed, revealing space for an additional mezzanine study.
