Ashley Marie Herrington Interior Design
Hello my name is Ashley Herrington. I am studying Interior Design at IowaState University. I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and am personable, hardworking, and a team player. I love meeting new people and traveling. Design offers an opportunity to explore creativity and learn all the world has to offer. Working on new projects and constantly growing as a designer is what I look forward to in this profession. I can not wait to get an inside look at what it will be like in the real world and how many doors will open up to me. This portfolio will showcase some of the many things that I have learned so far on my journy. Thanks so much! -Ash
Retreat Project The point of this project was to create a small place outside the college of design for professors and speaker to stay in while here for a short period of time. This space is only 521 square meters. The objective of this was to design this in the most particle way with the space we were given. We then build this by hand and added in the studding and frames while also keeping the landscape around it in mind. We also got to choose what type of roofing we wanted I chose a Gable and Valley roof. We also built a model of how studs and headers are used to get a better idea of the inside structures. My concept of the design was to make this a luxurious retreat home. I wanted any guest speaker/ teacher staying here to feel like they were provided with the best while taking time out of their work schedule to come teach and observe us. I was sure to use as minimal as I could while still providing what is used in every day. I wanted to be sure to have natural lighting and keep the colors very monochromatic to adapt to everyone’s needs.

Beauregard Residential Project For This Project, we were assigned a lot in the Serenbe community Located in Georgia. We were only allowed 2500 square feet and assigned a client which we then interviewed to speak about their wants and needs. I used a total of 2342 square feet. 1488 on the ground level and 861.59 on level 2. Serenbe is a progressive community connected to nature on the edge of Atlanta. A neighborhood full of fresh food, fresh air and focused on wellbeing. This community is set among acres of preserved forests and meadows with miles of nature trails that connect homes and restaurants with arts and businesses. Serenbe’s architectural planning sets a new standard for community living. Retired couple in early 70’s that are accompanied by their two cats Larry and Joey. One is an artist and one loves gardening and cooking. They are very active for their age and are heavily involved in their community. They love all things luxurious and have a very modern style. My goal is to design a practical home for my client and his wife. To accommodate their wants for classy, Modern, and up to date design while still preparing them to live the rest of their life’s in comfort. Preparing them for their elderly years while keeping their surroundings alive and young.

EVERLANE RETAIL PROJECT We were divided into groups of two and provided an online boutique that we then had to design a retail store for. We did a lot of research into the background of the brand and also the owners. We looked for their values and at the way their websites were set up and the vide it set off. I also researched their pop up shops to see what they all had in common to get a feel of the type of design aspects they were going for. Everlane embodies a minimalist aesthetic which will be carried into their retail space by allowing natural light to gleam throughout the open floorplan, keeping it very bright and clean. A sophisticated brand that is wearable and organic, Everlane ensures their customers they are getting the quality and expect each and every time. We will bring out the organic feel through the use of woods and plants. There are sharp and clean lines devoid of any ordainment, and movable clothing racks to ensure relocation easy. Everlasting clothing and design that will not just be a trending hit, but will be worn for many decades to come, likewise their retail store will create a timeless, monochromatic design. Founder and CEO of Everlane in 2010 in San Francisco, California, Michael Preysman a 29-year-old man who went to Carnegie Mellon University completing his bachelor degree in economics and engineering. Not knowing much about the fashion industry, he landed a job at a New York private equity firm and studied the retail industry. This led to him falling in love with designing his own brand. His first launch was an affordable white t-shirt that skyrocketed his brand. Michael now launches small batches of clothing throughout the year. The company does not advertise but instead their in-house production team post beautiful pictures and video on their website as well as social medias such as Instagram. Their clothes are professional with many basic pieces you will always need in your wardrobe. “We don’t think about Everlane as a fashion company; we think about it as a lifestyle company”, says Preysman. Everlane provides a minimalist aesthetic with an ethical approach.
