School refurbishment project briefed to have Block 1A and Block 2 Toilets Convert into large “superloo”type toilets that conform to modern MoE guidelines. The remaining toilet areas as indicated are to be converted into ILE / breakout spaces that can be effectively utilised by the nearby classrooms. As part of converting Block 5 into ILE environment, elements of the exterior including the cladding and window joinery to the western façade were to be replaced. Main design focus was to open up previously closed off cloak rooms and toilets. Converting these spaces into larger superloos involved creating new thoroughfare from exterior wall.

As part of converting existing building into ILE environment, included upgrades in line with MOE ILE and DQLS standards. The design involved open up intermediate walls between classrooms and converting resource rooms into breakout spaces. Keeping accessibility and visibility from the teaching spaces was achieved by added sliding doors. Connection between front facade to back of the building was reating new access way with stairs and bleacher seats. Finishes in colour to break down the long corridor.

Architectural Designer Resource Consent - Building Consent

The site layout and massing as picked up from previous Architect has been carefuly designed to suit unique environment of the site - situated at densly built urban area of New Market, with an elevation facing the motorway, acoustic functions has been conceptualized in its sculptural, angular forms. The roof and wall forms and materiality allude to the angular, vertical and folded forms of the Basalt rocks that form the walls of the old Mt Eden Quarry and reinforce the Volcanic architectural language in the area. By borrowing the folded verticality and rhythmic undulation of the rock face, the surface finish to the walls facing the motorway will be black oxided exposed aggregate concrete. The zoning allows for 18m maximum height with a limit of 16m for habitable space. The development site below the view shaft protection E9 from Mt Eden. The site abuts a residential zone one the eastern boundary which introduces a 2.5m + 45 degree HIRB control. To manage the bulk and scale of the proposal and protect the listed trees, the development has been broken into three discrete buildings (block 1, 2 and 3) with their own character and feel. Apart from 113 apartment units with 72 parking bays, line of shops are proposed to occupy the corner street position. Reduced 46 Apartment Types through rationalising to 24 and completed Resource Consent package drawings by building modules and main file on ArchiCAD.

SD.14 Sitting on a residential area of Queenland, Australia, the client required a house that hugs around a native Australian Tree. Natural Ventilation was also a big requirement and the house outlooked 10 years ahead in time for the clients children to be grown up and to be using the space differently. Thus the boundaries between different spaces were minimized. I have been in charge of this Duplex Residential from the start of the project on ArchiCAD through the design development to Contracting Tender Drawings, including:

Preparation of presentation drawings for the client meetings, DA drawings to BA preparations and working with details. Working with Australian Building Code, client’s brief and other consultants as well as delivering accurate collection of site data for designing around the existing trees were essential task, Above: Sketch Design stage presentation images; sketch done by tracing ArchiCAD model which has been produced and then worked on Photoshop.

Interior Design Design Partners Construction Issue January 2018 GENERAL NOTES These drawings shall be read in conjunction with all other Consultants drawings, specifications and details. Any discrepancy shall be referred to the project manager and architect for decisions before proceeding with onsite works. Confirm all existing construction, dimensions, heights and levels before commencing onsite works. The Contractor shall ensure all local authority consents have been obtained before commencing any onsite works. A copy of all consent documentation shall remain on site at all times. All workmanship and materials shall be in accordance with the requirements of the latest NZ Building Code and NZ Standards and best trade practices. All timber construction shall be in accordance with NZS3604 unless noted otherwise. Timber treatments shall be in accordance with NZS3602:2003. Refer to Specifications for types & locations.

Separate all timber from all concrete with DPC, DPC as outlined in specification. All insulation shall comply with the minimum requirements of NZBC H1 & NZS4218:2004.

All waterproofing shall be in accordance with NZBC E3/AS1. All floor & wall junctions are sealed to prevent water penetration. All fittings within these spaces shall also be sealed to prevent water penetration into concealed spaces. Main contractor to confirm waterproofing before finishes conceal.

Located at the holiday destination, Noosa Heads, Queensland Australia, the project seeks the answer for an addition of a bridge to prevent the tourist to attempt in jumping into the river. A project for the local council to design the pedestrian + motor vehicle bridge barrier for falling and carry the concept of this river. The bridge barrier is designed to be kinetic, which differs according to the speed of the pedestrian; walking, running, on bicycle, or car. The balustrade is then prefabricated to be fixed to the existing balustrade at the site and have been designed in such way to be easily transported to other sites and possibly reused in future. I have worked on ArchiCAD from the concept design stage to producing perspective images, VBE , documentation for Structural Engineers (Arup) and for shop drawings for steel sub-contractors.

COMPETITION ENTRY Australian House Echigo Tsumari

Australia House is used for art installations during the contemporary international arts festival, which takes place every three years in the mountainous Echigo-Tsumari region of Niigata Prefecture. The house will provide space for Australian artists to live, work and present their artworks, whilst serving as a venue for joint projects between Australia and Japan. This competition was judged by Tadao Ando and worked in conjuction with Arup Japan, I have worked on this project from the start; setting up on ArchiCAD, then using Adobe Photoshop on hand sketches which has been done by local artist.

The Bark Team joined the Brisbane Open House 2011 tour trailing along our own itinerary from Roma Street Station to Fortitude Valley. It was a great opportunity to see various architecture projects in Brisbane City that respect Queensland’s character and history. Our most memorable and engaging projects were Santos Place, Hassell Studio and Riddel Studio. Santos Place by Donovan Hill Architects is a fascinating high-rise project that has successfully integrated the sense of street lanes and human scale experiences. Walking into the Ground floor foyer, we could feel the compression of space immediately; the space is intimate and comfortable which is contrasting to the typical corporate space. The fantastic installation of lanterns, sculptural elements of raw, natural rocks add to these rich spatial experiences.

The building facade brightly adds Queensland’s heritage colours into the palette and the beautifully detailed fragmentation of the building plays with the penetrations of Brisbane’s intense light. This project has achieved the dilemma of the often missing human intact on high rise building with site specific gesture, embracing Queensland’s character Santos Place brightens up not only the Brisbane skyline but as a hub that interlinks the surrounding streets successfully like a ‘lane’ or ‘pedestrian street’ on its ground floor.

The next project, Hassell Studio in Fortitude Valley, was most impressive in its monumental, raw and honest expressions. This former Bread Factory's history has been celebrated by Hassell through exposing and thoughtfully adding - the new spaces respect the previous by integrating and the evolving, exposing and thoughtfully adding - the new spaces respect the previous by integrating and then evolving.


The old and new buildings open towards the symbolic, yet physical gathering court; as the centre point and bringing the spaces together. This relationship between the outdoor and the indoor delivers abundant light and air. Then it spreads into smaller spaces which are cleverly organised into different stations of working platforms, meeting spaces and even a space for art exhibition that are harmoniously interconnected with each other the studio is

a hub for working, socialising and a space to be interactive between each other. The honest space and the use of raw materials provide this free-flowing open planned space with a balance of strong expressions where the existing and the new elements work in a simple yet delicate language that can be found in every detail.

The last project that we visited was a 1950’s Furniture Store which has been gently assisted to uncover its beauty the water garden and the slanted front façade came together as this refurbished architecture gem by Riddel Architecture Studio. We loved the elegantly curved water garden with living gold fish that wraps around the front perimeter of the studio and how the edge invitingly opens up its ‘garden’ to the pedestrians on Wickham Street.

The interior of the Studio has its traces of pervious and the new with the unique oval roof lights bringing the day lights, warming up the eclectic character of this studio space. Other projects on the tour were: Brisaben Magistrates court, Arkefield Studio, BVN Architecture Studio, James Russell Studio, Brand & Slater Offices and HQ Leightons. This project reflects the ‘in-between space’ as the key concept to reconnect the spaces that we work, relax and live in. The questions of what is the best way to re-connect spaces together when they differ in qualities of condition. How they are occupied by different group of people and activities are being addressed throughout this thesis

project by the study of Eldo Van Eyck’s Structuralism and Peter Eisenman’s Deconstructivism. One of the developing idea of this project was to set up the stong axis points driven by the street and the building for a strong visual linkage that opens up the Auckland City into the Library and the Gallery space of the building

Study of different forms of units on the residential side of the building. The units are designed to have relationship between and to create community spaces between them. The final design units interlock vertically and could possibly continue to grow.

The front facade is to open up towards the Park road and create betweeness of interior and exterior through the ‘fluidity’ explored earlier with sets of models. The fragmented facade in the rhythm of openness and closure creates several pockets of unique spaces that visually blends the interior into the city, yet keeping the territorial boundary for one to feel comfort in this space as their home for the time of the stay.
