For the next few months, the Village of Ashland will be putting out information about the village through The Scoop. If you have any questions you would like answered in a public forum, please forward them to Mary Ann at Village Hall and we will try to answer them. If you like this way of broadcasting information to the community, please lets us or The Scoop know and we will continue these newsletters. As we near the completion of our water projects, we can start taking advantage of the new technologies in the water meters and our meter reading software. The week of August 17th, we drove through town reading all the new meters. Nineteen meters reported that the water at those locations had NOT shut off for twenty-four hours. Those homeowners have been contacted and hopefully they have been able to locate the source of the water leak. We cannot tell you where your leak is; only that in the prior twenty-four hours your water has run continuously. This is the technology that we plan on using on a weekly basis to help you identify and stop leaks before you receive a large water bill. Badger Meter Company is in the process of upgrading a handheld meter reader that can read your meter from inside your house. When these become available, the village will purchase a couple of them to loan out to homeowners for a month so that they can watch how much water they use doing laundry, showering, or just monitoring what they use on a daily basis. These units are magnetized and will stick on your refrigerator. A second added feature of your billing software is that we can now send you your water bill electronically via e-mail. You can choose to continue receiving your bill as you have in the past, or receive a printed copy and an e-mail, or e-mail only. If this is of interest to you, please send us an e-mail stating your wishes to Utility Rates:

I, Kyle Winkelman, left for the National Scout Jamboree on Thursday, July 22nd. There were 33 other scouts and 4 adult leaders (all from the Abraham Lincoln Council) on the bus with me. We arrived in D.C. on Friday morning. Dick Gutmann got to be one of the leaders with us during our site seeing time in Washington D.C. We got to go to the White House, then to Arlington Cemetary where we got to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The next two days we visted the Monuments and the Smithsonians. On Monday we went to Fort A.P. Hill, Va, the site of the Jamboree. Dick also went to the Jamboree, but he was a day worker there so we didnt get to see alot of him. At the Jamboree there were many things to do. Some of these things were snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, trapshooting, rifle shooting, canoeing, repelling, climbing, BMX, motorcross, pionerring, obsticle courses, national exhibits, American Indians Tents, Technology Quest, swimming and a military exhibit. Some of the people who performed or visited at the Jamboree included Miss America, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleeders, Don Gates, Shawn White(olympic snowboarder), Mike Rowe(Dirty Jobs) and several bands. On Wednesday August 4th the Jamboree was over and on the way home the bus stopped at Kings Dominian, a water park. We arrived back home on Thurdsay, August 5th. I had a great time and it was the experience of a lifetime
