Sunday School 9:30am Sunday Worship 10:30 am Bible Study - Monday 7:00 pm

Our Pastor Our Pastor leads our Bible Study Each Monday morn and night He hopes we’ll learn our Bible And he hopes we’ll do it right. He knows his Bible right side up And he knows it upside down. He is a wondrous teacherAnd he is the best in town. He’s always so impressive When he gets his vestments on. He preaches from the Bible And he’s hardly ever gone. He’s always in a cheerful mood, He’s very seldom down. And the people come to see him, ―Cause he is the best in town.‖ He calls you on your birthday And he sings the birthday song. He calls on sick and shut-ins And he seldom stays too long. He’s handsome in his white suit And his pure white derby hat. When he visits in the nursing home He’s a real sharp looking cat. He always offers HOPE to all, Lifts us up when we are down. He’s black and he is beautiful And he is the best in town. A Special Poem for Pastor Roosevelt Smith by Judith Cosner

THANKS TO OUR LETTER CARRIERS... Once again the Ashland Letter carriers did an excellent job of collecting food from their patrons. The Cass County Food Pantry received lots of good items to help fill the boxes in the coming months. Many families will eat better because of everyone’s generous gifts. Most reports we read tell us that there continues to be a great need and Cass County is no exception. The economy is not improving very fast so we all are going to have to help out where we can. GOOD JOB Letter Carriers and Patrons who donated!!

If you have any questions, please contact Tara Landon at 414-0548. HIGHLIGHTS OF ASHLAND SUMMER DAYS Hot, humid weather seems to follow the Ashland Summer Days! Two weeks earlier than last year, the heat and a Saturday night storm took it’s toll on the 2009 celebration. Babies ruled on Friday night, with the ―best ever‖ fireworks display at dusk. First-citizen Don Parsons led the Saturday morning parade, which was well-attended and filled with interesting entries. This year brought many more craft and flea market vendors to sell their wares in James Park, as well as delicious food and refreshments. Beautiful cars and trucks were on display Saturday afternoon from the Jacksonville Good Time Cruisers. Both the antique tractor pull and kids (and adults) pedal tractor pull created fine competition and lots of excitement, in spite of the heat. Saturday evening’s entertainment, ―Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters‖ attracted listeners from 9 months to 91- by actual sighting!! Their concert of classic rock brought a Good crowd to the benches and beer garden. It was cut short by a severe electrical rain storm. A HUGE THANK YOU is due to so many people who helped make the 30th Annual Summer Days run smoothly. A more complete report will appear next month.

CHESS CLUB IS BACK... Thursday, 7:00 pm, Church of Christ Parsonage 912 PROJECT... We would like to invite you to join with us for a 912 Project Movie Meet up, as we gather to view the movie "A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation" at the Ashland Church of Christ on July 17th at 7:00 p.m.. This stirring 2-hour film will bring the Founding Fathers to life, as you will witness the struggles and the miracles that produced the Constitution of the United States and the freest nation on earth. This movie is the first comprehensive film enactment of the birth of the Constitution, and the Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution has cited this film as being "of exceptional merit." Filmed on location at Independence Hall; Williamsburg, Virginia; and other historical sites, this movie dramatically chronicles the events leading up and including the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Viewing this movie will provide a dramatic visual context for all those who would like to join us in understanding how and why our Founding Fathers worked to create a new form of government -- one that would establish the standard of self-government to the world. For more information on The 912 Project, contact Phyllis Sutphin @ 217-971-3807 ASHLAND U-HELP... Any student may apply for up to $500 loan with an interest rate of 3%. Applications are available at the State Bank of Ashland.
