tar us all with the same brush, there are a number of cowboys out there that certainly warrant the unfavourable remarks of the public.

Many of you out there are frustrated with real estate agents. It is a theme that is highlighted whenever there is anything negative reported about an agent in the news via social media channels. The comments section is full of people wanting to air their opinions about us, and the suggestion that we sit somewhere alongside stagnant pond bacteria on the professional food chain. You know what, sometimes I have to agree with the comments. Although it certainly isn’t fair to

There is little wonder why many kiwis are having a crack at DIY sales. They simply don’t see where salespeople are adding value. Real estate agents need to be able to demonstrate their value. When you engage the services of a Bayleys salesperson, it soon becomes apparent that we understand this concept. Bayleys agents add value at every step of the transaction.

While the above opinions are on the extreme end of the scale, there is still a general feeling that we do very little to earn our commissions. Again, I can see the point people are trying to make. Some members of our profession take terrible photos, write short, non-descriptive property scripts and make little effort to list your property. Then they spend the duration of your marketing campaign telling you that your price (which is the

Check your alarms With daylight saving ending this weekend, it is again a timely reminder to check your smoke alarms are in working order. Let’s face it, any time is a good time to install or check your smoke alarms, and by choosing the right alarm and position in your home, it is the ideal DIY job. There are two main types of smoke alarms – ionisation and photoelectric. Ionisation alarms monitor the ions, or electrically charged particles. Smoke particles enter the sensing chamber, changing the electrical balance of the air. The alarm will sound when the change in the electrical balance reaches a certain level. Photoelectric alarms have a sensing chamber which uses a beam of light and a light sensor. Smoke particles entering the chamber change the amount of light that reaches the sensor, and the alarm sounds when the smoke density reaches a preset level.

For the best protection, it is better to install both types of alarms or a combination alarm (ionisation and photoelectric) in your home.
