Following the resignation of the Ashby manager in midweek the squad saw a few different players but they put in tremendous effort over the 90 minutes. Ashby took the lead via an own goal midway through the first half before Anstey turned the match around just after the break to lead 2-1. Kerr Horn levelled the scores up again midway through the second half before neither team could find a winner. The first chance of the game fell to the visitors on 13 minutes when a ball over the defence found a player in on goal and with debutant goalkeeper Charles Hornby coming off his line the ball was lofted over him only for the shot to come back off the inside of the post. The opening goal of the match came in fortunate circumstances for the home side on 24 minutes when a long ball forward was headed back goalwards by a defender and the ball was out of reach of the goalkeeper and he couldn’t stop the header from finding the net. Anstey soon had a chance to level the scores when they had a similar effort to the first with the lofted effort over the keeper this time being diverted away from danger by Ali Abdillahi and then just second later a high ball into the area saw a header at goal go just wide of the post. The first action of the second half saw the visitors level the scores in the 53rd minute when the ball came to a player who from the right side of the penalty area sent a low shot across goal which found the bottom corner. Anstey quickly moved in front just four minutes later when a ball was challenged for by both a defender and striker and it was the latter who got the decisive touch and the header couldn’t be kept out by the keeper. The visitors were only in front for nine minutes and it didn’t take long for substitute Kerr Horn to make an impact as not long after coming on he was on the end of a ball which was headed on and with just the keeper to beat he placed a low shot beyond the keeper and into the bottom corner to make it 2-2. The final twenty minutes saw both teams go in search of a winner but neither could find one resulting in a share of the spoils. 12
