A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Members and Friends, Don’t look now, but it’s Show Time! We are very excited to announce that once again for 2015, the ASHAM Charity Fall Horse Show is a point approved show for the Mid-America Horse Show Association, as well as the Illinois Saddlebred Pleasure Horse Association. We are looking forward to all the new riders that these point approvals could potentially draw from out of state. The ASHAM Charity Fall Show’s date this year is set for October 8th-10th, located back in the beautiful, heated facility of the Michigan State University Pavilion in East Lansing, Michigan. With the great stabling this complex provides along with its gorgeous indoor show arena, we are sure to be very comfortable no matter what the weather is outside! The growing success of our ASHAM Horse Show is due to the way we all pull together. From our overwhelming hospitality towards all our in-state and out-of-state exhibitors, along with the innovative ideas set forth by our show committee, our fall show continues to expand and improve every year and provide the exhibitors with many “extras” that you don’t see often at other shows. For example, our box seating will be back by popular demand with large cushions and refreshments to keep our spectators watching the competition in complete comfort. Wednesday afternoon we will be offering free subs, chips, and pop for our arriving exhibitors. We also will be providing complimentary coffee and donuts every morning. We must not forget to mention our popular Exhibitor Fiesta Party planned for Thursday evening after the classes, along with Friday night’s After Glow Party, and topping our events off, will be our Exhibitor’s Lunch on Saturday. Our show is sure to make everyone feel warm and welcomed! So, plan on coming for a great horse show and a wonderful time, you will be glad you did! We are happy to choose “O.A.T.S.” as our philanthropic partners again this year at the ASHAM horse show. O.A.T.S. is a local therapeutic riding center, whose wonderful and dedicated riders also come to compete at our fall show. In 2014, these riders were once again a class act at ASHAM. We were proud to host the UPHA Exceptional Challenge Cup qualifying class, which was a heartwarming experience for everyone, as we witnessed so many smiles from the riders. We are looking forward to having them back in 2015! It is becoming so clear that the survival of our favorite horse shows across the country depends on the generous financial sponsorships raised by their supporters. Last year, I am so proud to report that our Fall Show exhibitors and friends rallied to raise enough money to actually sponsor all of our classes. That was amazing! We look forward to that challenge again in 2015. As our show gets closer, sponsorship forms can be found on the ASHAM website at www.asham.org. or you may acquire them from any ASHAM Board member. Please remember, that these generous contributions are what give us the ability to make our show so successful! Thank You to everyone who helps behind the scenes and donates so much of their time year after year to help the show run smoothly. With their contribution, we are able to host these wonderful events for everyone to enjoy. I personally would like to give a special thanks to Cindy Scoggin for all her hard work managing the show……you make it great! Once again THANKS to everyone for all you do! As always, I have enjoyed serving on the board of ASHAM and for the last year, as your President. I appreciate the help and support that I have received over the years. Being a part of ASHAM has been a great honor to me. I have met so many wonderful people, and have made so many new friends, as well. I truly enjoy being with everyone from all the Michigan barns and consider all of you my friends. I am looking forward to working with so many outstanding board members this year. We have a great team with many new faces that are ready to serve you. Please continue to support ASHAM and, of course, our beautiful Saddlebred horses! I’ll see you all at the shows this year. Good Luck and have fun!

2014 ASHAM Charity Efforts

F

or the second consecutive year, ASHAM was proud to select OATS (Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles) as our charity par tner for the 2014 fall horse show. Because of the wonderful supor t of ASHAM sponsors as well as Michigan Saddlebred training barns, ASHAM was able to provide all stalls and bedding for the horses used by OATS riders. As ASHAM’s relationship with OATS has continued to flourish, many classes have been added to the show’s program specifically for these riders, expanding the classes in both

English and Western divisions to cater to all of our riders. This year UPHA Exceptional Rider classes were offered that drew riders not only from OATS but other barns as well. The required UPHA pattern was executed in all the classes as a critical aspect of qualifying for the national championship at the American Royal. These required patterns add an extra challenge and create a rewarding sense of accomplishment for each rider. We were proud to host over a dozen riders who competed for ribbons in these classes and were greeted with encouragement and suppor t from the large crowd on hand.

OATS rider competing in the UPHA Exceptional Challenge Cup Class

ASHAM is pleased with the continued growth of their charity effor ts and was able to present a significant donation to suppor t the OATS organization due to the success of the ASHAM Fall Show. Next year it is expected that the collaboration with OATS will continue to grow even larger as ASHAM is looking forward to adding the new UPHA Exceptional Rider On-Lead class in 2015! These classes will qualify for the newly approved UPHA finals for this division. This will open the option for an even larger number of riders to compete and showcase their skills.

OATS Team at the ASHAM horse show!

ASHAM is proud to announce that two of the young riders who participated in the UPHA Exceptional Challenge Cup qualifying classes at ASHAM went on to win national awards a few weeks later at the American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City. Aiden Silverton and his mount CH Mogul took home the Non-Physically Challenged Reserve National Championship title. Gracie Gustafson riding Lightning Struck PHF was thrilled to be crowned the Overall Reserve National Champion in the UPHA Exceptional Challenge Cup Rider Finals. Both riders are proudly trained by Wes and Sena Bowling, and Lauren Greenwald at Taylor Creek Stables
