My thesis project was located in Barcelona. A rigours analysis and understanding of the given context was achieved before making any attempt to change it. The proposal of a ‘Theological Seminary,’ was based upon this reading and contextual reflection of the site, rather than considerations of programme and function. The form of the existing influenced the form of the new, rejecting the idea of form follows function, but form follows form. This approach to design, allows continuous integration of the form with in the urban fabric; even if the programme and function change over time. Throughout the year the ethos of the department, Remember, Reveal, Construct, was continuously referred to.
