CONSTRUCTION AND SPONSORSHIP OF THE THOROUGHBREDS PAVILION ON THE WESTERN TERACE

THE HISTORY OF THE

THOROUGHBREDS

The Thoroughbreds was an idea of a Royalist who joined hands with a Thomian of his vintage and initially commenced the tent in 2010 with the help of other key members of both Schools. The key factor to start the tent by Royalist Jehan CanagaRetna and Thomian Amal de Mel was that there was difficulties in getting into tents such as the Stallions & Stables due to the restrictions of numbers.

Therefore, in order to ease the problem for Old Boys of both School, the Thoroughbreds was formed for individuals from both Schools from an age group of 40 and above.

Whilst the 1st few years were tumultuous, the Committee forged on and by the 4th year in its existence had created a tent that most wanted to be a part of. The age group itself brings class to the rudder as most of its members have established themselves as senior management of their respective companies, if not leaders or owners of those companies.

The basic idea of the tent was that all members should be given a great time where they can enjoy some great comforts that they would otherwise not see in another tent. Subsequently with the bar raised quite high by the Thoroughbreds, a few other tents too have “upped their game” and are doing their best to be on par.

The tent started with 174 members in its first year in 2010 with 101 Royalists and 73 Thomians joining the tent. In its 9th year that just completed, the membership has grown to 781 members with 56% being Royalists and 44% being Thomians.

From introducing different live bands every match day to providing Sashimi of the freshest quality to free local alcohol to all its members to Bollywood dancers to completely cooling off the tent with an A/C system or water cooling fans, a face recognition system to identify its membership entering the tent, the Thoroughbreds have been the talk of town year in and year out.

The Committee has also organized other events to entertain its membership and friends by organizing an Oktoberfest in 2017 and a South East Asian Food Festival in 2018. This too was another ďŹ rst for a tent at the Royal Thomian.

The Thoroughbreds, since its inception have also contributed approximately Rs. 800,000/- each to both Schools along with taking on an initiative to complete a socially responsible project for a suitable outstation School in the outstations. It seems that the tent and the Committee have gravitated towards providing drinkable water via water puriďŹ cation systems and have completed three such projects commencing in 2016 in Ratnapura, Galgamuwa and Wilpattu.

The Thoroughbreds will be celebrating its 10th year anniversary at the 2019 Royal Thomian Cricket encounter. As always, plans are adrift to make it an unforgettable year. Currently, the Committee consists of 16 members, 8 from each School led by two Co-Presidents.

We are looking to reach another key milestone by building a 3 storied building which will host the Thoroughbreds for the next 25 years.

OUR

FUTURE PLANS We are looking to construct a building that we hope will be completed by June 2019 but will have the ground floor only for the match in March 2019.

The proposal attached will explain the plan but we plan on having 3 floors including the ground floor that can host over 2000 people, have four Corporate boxes and a bar and lounge area.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The proposal sets out a broad framework of agreement to be established between Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) and The Thoroughbreds (TB) for the construction of a multi-tier Spectator Stand in the western terrace of the Cricket Grounds at SSC and the sponsorship thereof.

LOCATION The location of the Pavilion shall be adjacent to the BROWNS tent on the western terrance, between the ground access gates. ( please see diagram below)

DIMENSIONS The Plan area of the Tent Proposed is 30M ( ground frontage) x 18.65 M (depth)

DETAILS Two Floors ( Ground and First Floor) , each with 560 sq. mtrs. of floor area and a Mezzanine Floor with Glass Covering covering a floor area of 275 Sq. mtrs.

VISUALIZATION The visualization of the Tent is provided in the illustrations below Pls note the chairs and furniture inserted in the illustrations are only for visualization only. No chairs or furnitures is included in the proposal. Further, the mezzanine floor design is subject to change.

Cost and

CONSTRUCTION It is estimated that the cost of Construction of the said Pavilion is approximately LKR 35 Million.

Thoroughbreds will secure the funding through self funding and Sponsorships. Thoroughbreds will engage the contractor and supervise the construction as per mutually agreed detail

Benefits to

THOROUGHBREDS 1.

For a Duration of 25 Years, Throughbreds and it sponsors will have the exclusive rights to branding on the Pavillon

2. Throughbreds will have exclusive access to the first floor and mezzanine floor of the Pavilion during the Royal Thomian Matches to be held at SSC. 3. Thoroughbreds will have the first right of refusal to the use of the Ground floor of the Pavilion during the Royal Thomian Matches to be held at SSC. 4. Thoroughbreds will provide access to the Pavilion to it's members and guest subject to terms and conditions of the match organizers 5. During all other matches held at the SSC, thoroughbreds will be entitled to 50 match tickets, subject to conditions of the match organizers

BRANDING

OPPORTUNITIES OPTION 1 - RS.35 MILLION Exclusive branding of the outside of the building for 20 years.

Branding will subject to approval for ICC arranged tournaments but all other Sri Lanka international matches and other such activity at the SSC grounds, the branding will remain with the original signed agreement.

One Corporate Box for 20 years that can seat 20.

Usage with prior approval of the bar and lounge area for private functions.

Using the Data base of the Thoroughbreds thru the Committee for any email communications.

Option 2 - Rs.10 MILLION Agreed branding opportunity on the outside of the building for 10 years.

Branding will subject to approval for ICC arranged tournaments but all other Sri Lanka international matches and other such activity at the SSC grounds, the branding will remain with the original signed agreement.

One Corporate Box for 10 years that can seat 10.

Usage with prior approval of the bar and lounge area for private functions.

Using the Data base of the Thoroughbreds thru the Committee for any email communications.

Option 3 - Rs.5 MILLION (initially and the balance Rs. 5m divided equally in the next 5 years but inclusive of interest. From Year 6, the value will be approximately Rs. 1.25m with an increasing value going up to year 10).
