Nestled amid beautiful lakes and hardwood forests, the Anne Springs Close Greenway is a nature preserve more than twice the size of Central Park, located minutes south of Charlotte. Its 2,100 acres serve as a natural buffer from urban development and provide a wide-open space for countless activities – from hiking, biking and horseback riding to picnics, kayaking and more.

The land has ties to the Catawba Nation and the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and has been permanently preserved for public use. The children of Anne Springs Close donated the land in honor of her lifelong commitment to recreation and the environment and to provide a natural landscape for the community to enjoy. The Greenway offers a 40-mile network of trails, half a dozen lakes and ponds, two miles of Steele Creek, along with acres of meadow and Piedmont prairie, hardwood forests, and native wildlife habitat. It is home to the Greenway Gateway & Gateway Canteen, a ‘front door’ to the Greenway and unique café-style restaurant. It also features historic buildings and other facilities for weddings and special events. As a non-profit organization, the Anne Springs Close Greenway depends on members, programs and donors like you for your generous support.

The Green Gala, hosted by the Greenway Ladies Guild, is the Greenway’s longest running fundraising event. Started in 2016 and held at the Founders Dairy Barn, this event has become one of the most sought-after happenings on the Greenway. Raising over $400,000 since its inception, this event supports the Anne Springs Close Greenway, providing critical funding that allows all members of our community to benefit from Leroy Springs & Co. programs and facilities. The event, planned this year for Saturday, March 4, will include a Mardi Gras Masquerade as well as live music, a silent auction, dancing, and delicious food and drinks from the Greenway’s chef and on-site catering. The Fore the Bridge Golf Tournament raises funding for the Anne Springs Close Bridge Program which provides financial assistance for Leroy Springs & Co. programs and facilities such as FLYERS

Afterschool and summer camps for those in need. The tournament is held at Fort Mill Golf Club on October 9, and welcomes golfers of all skill levels who want to enjoy a day on the course, while funding a wonderful community program.

The Taste of Fort Mill is an outdoor culinary and social event held at the Greenway Gateway. Known as “The Most Tasteful Party of the Year”, this culinary extravaganza will take place on Friday, May 19 with live music to keep pace with great food and friends. Also supported by the Greenway Ladies Guild, this event has welcomed over 750 guests and raised over $170,000 for the Anne Spring Close Bridge Program since coming to the Greenway in 2021.

The Colonel’s Club Boil & Brew is the Greenway’s salute to the Lowcountry boil, a South Carolina staple, and the flourishing craft beer scene here in York County. Over 900 guests attended in 2022, helping the Greenway raise important funding for a Mountain Biking Skills Track to support young and budding off-road cyclists. Other features of the event included live music, an exclusive beer sampling experience from area breweries, silent auction and fall festivities, lawn games and more for kids. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 21.

The Anne Springs Close Greenway is operated by Leroy Springs & Company (LSC), a non-profit company established in 1938 by Colonel Elliott White Springs dedicated to supporting the recreation, education, and community needs of citizens in Fort Mill Township and Chester and Lancaster counties. A family of brands including Anne Springs Close Greenway, FLYERS Afterschool, Springs Golf, LSC employs over 400 people in the local community. The company also operates Springmaid Mountain in Spruce Pine, NC.
