“I thought, what’s the big deal? Everyone does it. Boy, was I wrong. Laura’s lecture was mind blowing,” said one parent, who went home to immediately have a conversation about marijuana use with his high school children.

Laura Stack was best known in the business world for her professional moniker, The Productivity Pro. Her 30-year career as a keynote speaker, bestselling author of eight productivity books, and corporate spokesperson came to a screeching halt on November 20, 2019, when her 19-year-old son, Johnny, died by suicide after becoming psychotic from dabbing high-THC marijuana concentrates. Laura responded by forming the nonprofit, Johnny’s Ambassadors, and in her new book, The Dangerous Truth About Today’s Marijuana: Johnny Stack’s Life and Death Story, she educates parents and teens about the dangers of today’s high-THC marijuana on adolescent brain development, mental illness, and suicide.

Health and wellness leader, WEforum, hosted their 4th Community Conversation that brought The Dangerous Truth About Today's Marijuana to Monmouth County, presented by Laura Stack. Stack formed the nonprofit Johnny's Ambassadors to educate parents and teens about the dangers of today's high THC marijuana on adolescent brain development, mental illness, and suicide. WEforum was enlisted to help spread the word in New Jersey communities to help save our youth from substance use disorder due to dabbing, and other recreational marijuana use. The eye-opening and illuminating WEforum Community Conversation took place in March in Little Silver in partnership with The Source at Red Bank Regional High School. Other major partners included Monmouth Medical Center - RWJBarnabas Health’s Institute of Prevention and Recovery, Mental Health Association of Monmouth County, and Tigger Stavola Foundation, whose mission is to fight addiction, spread awareness, and save lives through drug prevention and education.

w

Prominent Monmouth County resident, Carolyn DeSena, founded WEforum, the regional women’s education forum that helps educate communities on how to make better lifestyle choices. Along with an A-list team of professional women, DeSena has been developing important, eye-opening programming, and producing community health and wellness events since 2015.

DeSena and her team have created the popular WEforum Community Conversations to bring relevant, trending, and at times, controversial topics to New Jersey communities.

ADDITIONAL WEFORUM COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS HAVE ALSO INCLUDED:

fitcrawl

Well-known for their annual Fit Crawl, WEforum brings regional and New Jersey statewide gyms and fitness lovers together to encourage communities to Move for Life.

DeSena also created Eat for Life: How the Power of Food Can Heal Your Body, a WEforum health and wellness conference that brought notable speakers to New Jersey. Keynotes included: Chef David Bouley of NYC, The Gangsta Gardener, Ron Finley of South Central LA, and the Lunatic Farmer, Joel Salatin, who elevated the conference conversation with his unique eclectic food and farm discussion.

WEforum continues to develop innovative and relevant programming to ensure New Jersey communities are engaged, proactive, and always making better lifestyle decisions. “The conversation has to start somewhere, and we want to educate communities, so that families and schools can have important dialogue that can shift how young people make decisions,” says DeSena.
