Two bull calves weighed 70 pounds and the heifer calf, out of a Josie cow weighed 75 pounds. All were vigorous and fast starters. gift, the drive, the desire, and above all, a love for agriculture. We are all so lucky that our preparation, in this case, is for something we love. To be the best agricultural advocate it takes practice — public speaking. To be the best sales person it takes practice — sales talk. The judging contest helps us to be better evaluators. The cattlemen’s quiz teaches us cow sense and builds our knowledge bank to be better stockmen and women. All of these things are great and there is no feeling like the one you get after hearing your name called to place in an event. There is one feeling that trumps it though; that feeling is knowing personally that the preparation you have put forth to these events has given you the ability to talk to anyone in the industry. Not only that, but to speak on their level with a genuine understanding of the conversation. Not everyone has the opportunities or the resources that we do as Simmental youth. So take advantage of them and do your best to utilize these to your personal development. I wish you all the best of luck, and know whether you’re first or don’t hear your name called it is using the skills and knowledge picked up in preparing that makes you a true winner. ◆
