n’s a m ir Cha ssage Me Dear Members,
As summer approaches, we are getting geared up for major refurbishment projects at the Club with an endeavor to upgrade the facilities constantly. We had a plethora of activities over the last couple of months including Holi, All India Food Festival, Valentine’s Day celebrations, a trip for members to Eastern Europe, a Desert Fun Drive, Health Talks and Ladies Coffee Evenings; The MNC Gala Dinner was revived back after 3 years to a very positive feedback.
Please accept greetings of Peace and wellness to all. As the summer months approach, the scenario of the club changes to more of indoor activities but still buzzing and busy.
We are getting geared up for the 39th edition of the UAE Badminton Tournament and hope to get another record number of entries. Members will be glad to note that the lift at the Ashoka Complex is now operational.
We at India Club look forward to whole hearted support from our members in order to strive and succeed so do keep the suggestions and feedback coming but please don't forget to mention your name and membership number as this will help us to attend the matter promptly.
We would love to hear from you and your suggestions and ideas for bettering our Club are welcomed.

Food Mela The View from the other side was breathtaking colourful clowns, dances and entertainment by kids, little ones clad in fancy dress costumes, caricature artists, mehndi application, were some of the attractions, apart from the tantalizing aroma of food, which drifted you into the world of connoisseurs. Yes, I'm talking about the food mela 2016! India club has been enthusiastically conducting food mela every year for the past 6 years. It endeavors to bring out the best there is, in the 'home chefs' and encourages them to show their hidden culinary art out to the public. Hats off to the entire India Club team who toil hard to make it a success for the members (here I want to make a special mention of Pansy, without whose contribution and hard work I should say it wouldn't have been the same). I have always been a participant each year and enjoyed every bit of it. But this time for a change, I decided to be on the other side of the stalls, just strolling around and having fun. There were totally 19 stalls and a throng of people heading to get a taste of the mesmerizing food. The lively atmosphere gave it a true effect of a mela back home. The food in each stall represented a part of our country, a part of our culture and tradition. Here I also witnessed how, though keeping with our tradition, we as Indians accept, adapt an blend new ideas from around the world so naturally. And this shows even in our cuisine. Who wud have heard of dhokla pizza and Thepla quessidilla? Rasgulla chaat!? Never heard of it before. Though I'm from Karnataka but born and brought up in Mumbai., I didn't know what goli wada is, which I got to see and even taste here! Inventions, creations and presentations were all the soul of the food stalls. It was amazing to see the diversity of India through the wide variety of cuisines and dishes. Food mela this time also, as always, brought out the true spirit of India!

I had the good opportunity to attend the Grand Annual Sports Day organized by India Club. As always, India Club and it’s organizers never fail to amuse me and my family members. The Entire event was organized to perfection and my family had a wonderful time right from the word GO ! A special mention of the staff also who joined hands from Indian High School along with the India Club staff to make the event a grand success. Games for Kids, Grown Ups, Veterans were all conducted in a very smooth fashion. The variety of Events was very good and gave a chance to almost everyone to compete in the sport of their choice. To organize Bowling, Basketball, Cricket, Football and fun games in one single day is truly commendable. We thank the management of India Club and all those involved for the wonderful time and for organizing such a great event which we all look forward to every year. Wishing India Club all the best for all future events!

Gala Dinner I wish to thank India Club Dubai for the invitation to the MNC Annual Gala Dinner. As mentioned in your invitation, truly it was a GRAND & HIGHLY AWAITED event. The belly dancers did mesmerize us with their dazzling show. It was not 1, not 2, but 4 of them!!!! This magnitude of bellydancers and belly dancing I had never witnessed in any other social/corporate events that I attended. The show by the Illusionist left me and many in shock and awe. He was a fantastic performer and kept the entire audience spell bound. I also really enjoyed the show of Latin American dancers especially the ones they performed on Bollywood numbers. Last but not the least - sumptuous dinner with soothing music played by the saxophonist - Food for the body and the soul. Overall, a well spent evening amongst good sociable crowd. Wishing all your future events to be a grand success...

MOHAN VALRANI - THE STALWART in August this year, will offer the National Curriculum of England to pupils from Foundation Stage 1 through to Year 6.
Mohan Valrani has achieved a phenomenal success in the 50 years he's been in Dubai. Arriving in the Emirate in 1966 as an eager young man with just $10 in his pocket on a mission to expand his uncle's business in the Middle East, his chance meeting with Abdullah Al Shirawi was to make a lasting impact upon Mohan's life. The duo formed a firm and lasting friendship which served as the basis for a joint business collaboration in the shape of Al Shirawi Trading and Contracting, which began operations in 1971.
Forty-five years on, Al Shirawi Group is one of the largest conglomerates in the Arabian Gulf comprising over 40 companies with activities spanning manufacturing, trading, marketing, distribution, logistics, contracting and service businesses, employing more than 10,000 staff and with a turnover of $1 billion. Having just picked up the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award by Dubai's ITP Publishing (his third to date), Mohan is gearing up to take on his latest venture - which is, in his own words, his 'true passion'- that of education.
What's more, Mohan is taking a uniquely holistic approach to looking after its staff. On top of earning some of the highest teacher salaries in the emirate, Arcadia teaching staff will enjoy top-class accommodation, first-class benefits and access to the best training courses along with the latest technology at their fingertips to augment the teaching process. 'Our teacher-centric approach has been deliberately designed to ensure all our teachers feel valued and respected; indeed the Arcadia team's vision is to create a school in which educators are treated with the same value and respect that they are expected to instill in their own students,' said Mohan.
Valrani receives Lifetime Achievement Award at the Indian CEO Awards
Chase your passion, age just a figure
Industrialist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, father of three and grandfather of seven, the dynamic and ambitious-as-ever Mohan of today shows no sign of easing into a more leisurely lifestyle despite being within sight of his 76th birthday. Never one to aim for anything less than the best, Mohan Valrani's ambition is to revolutionise Dubai's educational landscape by combining the finest traditional values of a British primary education into a forward-thinking, international environment. The first school to open under the Arcadia brand will be The Arcadia Preparatory School. Situated in a state-of-the-art campus within the Jumeirah Village Triangle community, the school, which is scheduled to open 34 India Club
There comes a time when you feel the need to leave behind a legacy for future generations and for me, opening schools to give back to the Dubai community is the best way to achieve this since education is a vital means to helping solve many of the problems of the world,' said Mohan. 'That's why I've decided to dedicate the rest of my life to building schools under the Arcadia brand. In the words of Nelson Mandela, 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world' and that's exactly what I want to achieve with Arcadia schools,' he said. To realise this vision Mohan, as Chairman of The Arcadia Schools, is employing the very best teachers, embracing the most advanced technological teaching aids and working closely with architects and designers to ensure all Arcadia school facilities are of an outstanding quality.
As for pupils themselves, a rich and diverse learning environment awaits where the highly-qualified and dedicated teaching team will use the latest resources to help propel young minds towards academic excellence. Arcadia's unique Enrichment Learning Programme, an all-inclusive programme based on an extended school day, complements the core curriculum in harmony with an array of extra-curricular activities covering languages, music, art and sports. 'By instilling a passion for life-long learning into our pupils and by rewarding excellence so that every deserved student can receive a highquality British education, regardless of their financial means, we are laying the foundation for our students to evolve into intellectually-rounded, motivated and ambitious young adults and beyond. As Mahatma Gandhi said, 'Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever.''
