10 habits that your health needs to steer clear from You involuntarily pick your nose while talking to people, or bite your nails while reading, or you are one of those who have to binge on sweets before sleeping. All this, without realising how annoying it can be for others or how unhealthy it is for you. We all have habits that we pick up from our childhood and that becomes a part of us even as adults. But little do we know that these habits can hurt our health and has serious implications of our mental health too. So let’s look at 10 habits that may be part of your personality and which only deserves a farewell for your good health.
Worrying is your second name You hit the roof when someone jokes about your appearance or doesn't include you in a conservation, or worry about what others are talking about you. You worry to the extent that you imagine impending doom looming over you and stress yourself enough to cause mental and physical illness. Taking unnecessary stress can put you at the risk of being overweight and can often cause heart problems and diabetes. Learning to channelize your stress into things that make you happy like reading a good book, or painting can help a lot. Also you need to learn to ignore triggers that can cause stress for a mental and physical well being. You pick your nose while talking You will often see people rubbing their nose or “digging gold” from their nose while talking to others. While you may be enjoying your activity of giving your nose a rub, you may not notice how disgusted the person talking to you maybe feeling. Picking your nose can cause cold and flu as the virus spreads through the mucous and you may not notice when you put the same finger in your mouth! So stop picking your nose for your health’s sake and for others. You stay awake all night There are some who work better in the night, while some can sleep only in the wee hours in the morning. While it’s okay to stay awake once in a while, staying up late or sitting like a owl all night while the world is lulled into to a sound sleep, can be a cause for concern. Your body needs at least 68 hours of sleep daily and when you deprive it of it, you become tired for the major part of the day, are constantly yawning and are not able to focus on your daily chores. It also decreases your immunity level with the result that you fall sick often. So make that beauty sleep part of your daily routine before you look older than you should and are visiting clinics more often than your home. You eat, drink, sleep coffee You need a coffee to wake up your brain, you need a coffee before and after breakfast, you are sipping cups of coffee during work and even before sleep, a cup of coffee takes centre stage. If you have been thinking that sounds just like me, then YOU are a true coffeeholic. While gulping down those cups of coffee gives you a sense of renewed energy, it does more harm than good. A cup of coffee contains 57gm of caffeine and when coupled with sugar and cream, it can add tons of calories to all the places in your body that you thought could never become fat. So stop intaking a barrel of coffee, and if you want coffee, try cutting it down to maybe two a day and gradually supplement it with some fruit juice. You binge on junk food With fast food centres becoming the order of the day, everyone wants food that can be instantly bought and instantly eaten. So you binge on all the fried stuff, you gorge on the burgers and
pizzas thats loaded with all the creamy cheese, spices and artificial preservatives. Constant binging on fast food not only increases the chances of a high cholesterol but it is so rich and fatty that you can be sure of gaining a huge waistline. So cut down on the fast food and eat healthy food like salads and nuts if you are in a hurry or when you are extremely hungry. You listen to loud music throughout the day Ears plugged, people keep hammering on their keyboards at work. This is the scene most workplaces have today. Sometimes the music played is so loud that its audible enough for the whole floor. While music can be a healer, listening to loud music with your ears plugged into those headphones can cause more damage than you can imagine. It affects your eardrums and can cause loss of hearing in the long run. Decreasing the volume and cutting down on the long hours on the headphones can help. So enjoy the music you want to listen to, keeping in mind low volume and lesser duration. You are a couch potato You spend all your time in front of the tv, sitting, sleeping on the couch, or at work sitting in front of your computer. You practically live on the couch and get up only to take those bio breaks. If this is one of your habits too, well, I have some news for you. You have enrolled yourself for a massive weight gain program that can cause obesity, with an increased chance of a heart attack and stroke. Yes, with little or no exercise you are bound to put on oodles of weight as sitting reduces your metabolism rate, also making you a strong contender for back problems as well. So get up from the couch and get some exercise. Cuddle up on that couch only for when you need a much deserved break. You are a pro pill popper You have worked for long hours for the day and a headache makes you pop a pill, or you just can't seem to get enough sleep so you decide to drink some cough syrup. If you find solace in medicines and can't go a day without them, then you are in deep trouble. Taking medicines without a prescription can cause harmful side effects in the long run. Eating a balanced diet can avoid this pill popping habit and if you do need to take medicines it should only be under the direction of a doctor.
You hate the idea of a bath You can go on days without taking a bath and sit in the same jumpers if it a long holiday. If so, you have some serious hygiene issues and shouldn't be surprised if you find people twitching their nose while walking past you. Not taking a bath daily ensures that your body stench can be smelled by people far away from you, and makes you a strong candidate to visit hospitals frequently. A bath is absolutely essential to clean all the dirt from your body and leave you clean. A hot water bath is also a great way to take off all the stress for the day. You chew and bite your nails You bite your nails when you are working, you bite your nails while reading, or you bite your nails because you have nothing interesting to do or are too lazy to use a nail cutter. While you are at it, you may not notice that you may have touched other objects around you, picked up dirt in your nails which transfer germs to your mouth and even damage the nail bed with constant chewing. So when you get the urge to bite your nails, chew on something else, keep a nail cutter handy so that you can cut them clean. If that also doesn't help, you can wear gloves and keep your hands covered to avoid the biting. If you have one or more of these habits, then it’s time you quit, and opt for a healthy living style. If you are suffering from any lifestyle diseases then it is advised to book an appointment with a doctor via https://www.practo.com/mumbai
