15 September to 1 October 2017

Art Trek artists and makers extend a warm welcome to visitors to the 2017 North Devon Open Studios. This successful and friendly event sets out to help artists and the public come together in the relaxed settings of the artists homes, studios, workshops and a variety of venues. Developing relationships between artists and visitors brings wonderful insights into the artists’ ideas and their creating processes. As well as being able to see and buy a broad range of original artworks, some of the artists and makers will be giving demonstrations, along with opportunities for you to join in a variety of workshops. As many of the artists and makers spread across the area live in beautiful countryside, you may find yourself venturing off the beaten track sometimes, but this means you will discover delightful villages, hamlets and views you wouldn’t normally come across!

Many artists will be offering tea as you chat with them about their art, so do take them up on this as it’s a great way to find out more about them and the work as you relax together! You are under no obligation to buy from the artists, but of course everyone is over the moon if you do decide to buy, or commission an original piece from them, and any transactions are solely between you and the artist concerned. So, please look out for the Art Trek signs and try to visit as many artists and makers as you can during this three week event, enjoying the wide variety of venues on offer in Art Trek 2017. Art Trek is organised by White Moose Projects CIC. arttrek.co.uk info@arttrek.co.uk

Joanna Sellors Fiona Matthews I make ceramic sculpture and pots, often using black stoneware clay which is probably seen to best effect outside amongst foliage. Currently I am working on a large scale project.

I work to produce bold and original artworks with interweaving layers of colour and pattern. My work represents joyousness and our connection to everything around us.

Janis Glover & Bert Bruins

I paint in oil and ink and make ceramic sculpture. Living near the coast I’m affected by tides and the nature surrounding us. Music has a strong influence on my work; the pace of it and its ebb and flow.

Janis and Bert share a passion for the Westcountry landscape, and their respective styles betray decades of involvement with and practice of translating our beautiful surroundings onto canvas.

Wood engraving exhibition and professional working studio. Amazing bargains in stock reduction.

Carvings in granite, slate and other stones. Some are in the workshops, others in the garden. If you can find the workshop, coffee and cake will be available. Dogs welcome.

Robert creates Birdhouses from everyday objects wherever possible using recycled and repurposed materials. Cressida designs and handprints stylish linocut cards inspired by local scenery, nauticalia flora and fauna.

Devon Pop Ups presents

Vintage & Handmade Claire Scott

Mary Myers

Mark King

Jan Sears

Claire, a widely travelled artist, paints in her abstract works the patterns she sees in her personal life, the natural world and contemporary political realities.

The Square Studio and Gallery is run by artist and jewellery maker Mary Myers who will be exhibiting her own work and that of many other local artists.

Just what is The Point? is an exhibition featuring the work of photographer Mark King, the maker of independent, local magazine The Point, a quiet read in a noisy world.

I enjoy working with a variety of media and am influenced by the changing coastal scenery in North Devon. Mixed media canvases, paintings, knitwear and gifts from my new studio.
