SABHAN ADAM

BIOGRAPHY     Interna0onally-‐acclaimed   Sabhan   Adam   obsessively   explores   the   overwhelming   pains   of   the   world  and  depicts  the  harsh  reality  of  living  in  its  most  s0rring  animism.  Par0ally  human,  par0ally   beast,   his   stunning   creatures,   possessed   with   human   anguish,   are   rich   in   primal   brutality.   The   truth   is   a   harsh   one   for   humanity   as   a   whole   and   Adam   is   convinced   there   is   no   sense   in   aGemp0ng   to   soHen   the   blow.   “When   there   is   so   much   pain   inside   you   and   around   you,   it   is   impossible   to   just   draw   flowers   and   birds.”   Instead   Adam   paints   male   figures,   endlessly,   haun0ngly   and   rebelliously   to   challenge   socie0es’   superficial   no0ons   of   beauty   and   to   undress   human   weaknesses   such   as   vanity   and   denial.     Grabbing   us   by   the   throat,   each   figure   cap0vates,   appeals,  monopolizes  the  mind.  At  0mes,  their  faces  are  tormented  with  pain,  reminding  us  of   Adam’s  agonizing  circumstances  back  home  and  in  our  region  at  large.  Other  0mes,  the  figures   are  confident,  cynical,  upbeat,  almost  arrogant,  as  though  defying  circumstances.  Sabhan  Adam   succeeds  in  turning  the  grotesque  and  the  monstrous  into  extraordinary  immortal  humans  with   infinite  compassion  of  beauty.       Born  in  Al-‐  Hasakah,  Syria,  in  1972     Self  taught  ar0st   Over  100  solo  exhibi0ons  worldwide   In  the  collec0on  of  major  ins0tu0ons,  founda0ons  and  private  collectors

Founded in 2010, ArtTalks | Egypt has established itself as a highly selective search engine for Egypt’s next generation of contemporary artists and an authority on   high quality secondary market works by twentieth century Egyptian masters and many of the most important artists working today. ArtTalks manages the estate of the late painter and sculptor Dr Sobhy Guirguis, a seminal artist who just passed away in January 2013.   Part of ArtTalks income is channeled into an Art Fund to support high potential emerging artists and to finance an extensive educational program aimed at growing the number of art collectors and art patrons in Egypt. We run a yearly curriculum on the history of Egyptian modern and contemporary art and invite scholars from abroad to give talks to the public.   Founded by arts patron Fatenn Mostafa, former CEO of Gianaclis Vineyards for Beverages and former advisor to Bozar, Center of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium, the gallery is committed to the defense of freedom of art in Egypt and to strengthen Egypt's position on the regional art map.
