COVID-19 INFORMATION, RESOURCES & SUPPORT FOR WA PUBLIC GALLERIES

GAL LERI E SWEST

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY GalleriesWest acknowledges the First Nations peoples of Western Australia as the traditional custodians of the country that our public galleries are situated on and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging. GalleriesWest further acknowledges that sovereignty over these lands was never ceded and that all of the work that we do is built on the rich and deep culture of Western Australia’s First Nations people.

INTRODUCTION COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving, unprecedented situation. To keep you up-to-date, GalleriesWest has adapted this document prepared and generously shared by Museums & Galleries Queensland to support our sector through this challenging time.

Above all, we encourage you to take care of yourselves and those around you by observing social distancing, staying informed and adhering to the recommended health and safety measures.

STAYING CONNECTED

NAVA ADVOCACY TRAINING

Keen to develop your advocacy skills to champion the arts with confidence, but not sure where or how to begin? Every Wednesday evening, join Esther Anatolitis and Australia’s leading advocacy thinkers and practitioners online at 4pm AEST. Let’s talk arts, policy, media, political and public engagement. What works? What doesn’t? What can we achieve together? The aim is to foster confident, informed advocacy by smart, connected artists and arts leaders. Not just once-off, not just in an emergency, but in an ongoing way that precludes such policy and funding emergencies. Let’s build something that lasts. Our efforts will culminate in Arts Day on the Hill – Australia’s national day of advocacy for the arts. Pop it in your calendar: this year’s Arts Day on the Hill is on Wednesday 12 August, during the first sitting week once Parliament resumes. https://visualarts.net.au/nava-events/2020/nava-advocacy-program/ With our galleries closed to the public and many of us working from home, it is more important than ever that we stay connected. Below are some of the many ways we can, as a sector, share our stories, ideas and lessen the isolation.

Little Lunch Online (LLOL) is a quick 30-minute chance to check in, share ideas and connect with each other while grabbing a quick bite of lunch. https://artsfront.com/event/37103little-lunch-online-llol#!tab=lunches

First Nations Roundtables are an ongoing series of updates and discussions facilitated by the Australia Council for the Arts around the impacts of COVID-19 and First Nations artists and arts organisations. https://www.australiacouncil.gov.au/ programs-and-resources/first-nationsroundtables/

Australia Council for the Arts is delivering a series of online webinars, titled Creative Connections, offering practical, accessible and useful content delivered by industry experts on key topics and emerging themes. The webinars are Auslan interpreted and live-captioned, and will be published on the Australia Council for the Arts’ website following the ‘live’ Zoom presentation. https://www.australiacouncil.gov.au/ programs-and-resources/creativeconnections/

Regional Arts WA offers a myriad of programs, grants and support activities for regional organisations https://regionalartswa.events/?region =everywhere&type=events

#MuseumFromHome and #MuseumsFromHome bring together galleries and museums from across the world to share and connect. Australian Arts amidst COVID-19 is a place for Australian arts to ask questions and share ideas about how to work with COVID-19. https://www.facebook.com/ groups/867638387034820/
