SOLO EXHIBITION REPORT: “THE CATS”
Following Kobe, Taipei and Osaka, my 4th and final solo exhibition for 2019 — “THE CATS — was open till 10th Nov at WORLD TIMES in Shukugawa, a quiet and beautiful area in Ashiya, Hyogo prefecture, Japan. Let me tell you a little bit about the show, full of pretty cat artworks and goods. The venue, WORLD TIMES, is an art gallery, café and a furniture showroom of Karimoku, the biggest Japanese furniture brand. Some international artists including Ahhi Choi, quite a few artists from Tokyo and many local artists exhibit at this gallery and is loved by many locals and fans around the Kansai region.
Two 89.4x145.5cm (M80 size) big pieces were hung on one wall. “Dedication of gratitude” is a portrait of a woman playing the organ, practicing for next week’s Sunday service. Beside her sits the cat in comfort. “Dear”, is of 2 neighbor girls adoring the new cat art panel their mother has bought for the house. The vertical composition has a sort of religious bent. The former is of Christianity and everyday life, and the latter piece can, in a way, be interpreted as remembering a late pet. The model, Japanese tabby cat Mi-chan, is now 15 years old, quite old but so far in good health. I love her so much. Small pieces were allocated to the opposite wall. The main piece of the show, “Philosopher cat” (size 28x38cm, mixed media), 15-year-old Japanese cat in contemplation, sold on day 3, along with a few more. Other pieces include simple ink on paper/panel works, those with the golden / dripping / black background. Non-cat pieces and commission works were exhibited on the wall at the back of the gallery, including 2 teddy bears, 1 cat, 1 dog and 1 mouse (hamster). I mainly specialize in cats but also draw other mammals, birds, furry things and sometimes people. Along with original drawings/paintings, I made some goods such as the 2020 calendar, pigment print cushions, notebooks and mug cups. 2019 was my first year of producing goods and I would like to keep testing ranges of items, expanding routes domestically and maybe overseas outside Japan. Thank you for reading! Takahiro Yamada

INTERVIEW
PATRICIA BORGES
Which role the artist plays in the society and contemporary art? Artists are very brave. They offer their sensibility to the world, teach and learn new ways of seeing life, of dealing with “reality. Artists create new worlds that would not otherwise exist. And most of all, we ask questions. New questions for old problems. I find it wonderful when we come across an ancient work of art that speaks of our time: a truly contemporary achievement.
Which art themes do you pursue? I aim to create images that explore the ephemerality of art history, art, its reception and circulation. The image
itself
will
disappear.
Physically
and
metaphorically speaking. As I give images a body, the divisions between media become increasingly blurred, elastic, less hierarchical. Sculpture and the idea of sculpture are explored in photographic works, and vice versa. The film defies the screen plane, which becomes a mirror, or a slit through which the image escapes. Cyanotypes become paintings,
iron
oxides
become
pigment,
photographic paper is replaced by a tissue that absorbs the image, the sun is no longer reflected light but an alchemical brush. All of my works are born as photography to then put the genre in check. The image wants to jump out of the paper somehow. My printed matter doesn't want to be just a representation of something else. It acquires a life in its own. I often combine black and white images of nature, body parts and architecture, as well as everyday matter. My personal photographic essays will very often contemplate a feminine narrative. Our bodies and our feelings are common themes. Poetic fictions, having the sea as a recurrent element.

INTERVIEW
PATRICIA BORGES
What are your goals in the near future at global art market? I guess we photograph in an attempt to understand the impermanence of life, the transience of all things that cease to be despite our desire to retain them, to keep them. But not even the photographic image is
permanent
or
eternal.
Something
new
is
physically created at the moment I photograph. I feel that I move from techniques of reproduction of reality to techniques of production of reality in a post-photographic era. My goal now is to be able to exchange our impressions of contemporary art production on a larger scale. To show my work to the widest possible audience and talk to others about what I am thinking and doing. About what they are thinking and doing. To take my artwork to increasingly diverse and distant audiences. To broaden so called art market.
What is your idea about Artness Contemporary Art Magazine? Did you enjoy collaborate with us? I would like to thank you for this opportunity. It has been a pleasure to work with Artness Contemporary.

The artist uses mythological characters as a symbolic language in his works. Although myths from the past to the present day vary from society to society, they continue in the same way in different cultures and beliefs. The artist has established a connection between past and present and has placed these legends with various archetypes in his works. In her many works she has done canvas works with collage and mixed technique. Recently, he has been writing articles on the development of technology and the importance of artificial intelligence in art and producing works on this subject.

SIGNIFICANT CONTEMPORARY APPROACH
Hello MÜBERRA BÜLBÜL. What is your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
My talent, which was noticed at my primary school age, continued spontaneously. I had a quiet and withdrawn childhood. My father supported me during my high school as a faculty member at the

Academy of Fine Arts. While working as a graphic designer, I started painting and learned a lot. I started shouting against injustices and saw that this was of no use and made a sound in my paintings.
Art is to exist. To be yourself. Exploring the world and self. Breathing, laughing, crying, shouting, is to be happy. Art is inseparable from human, society, world. It is an excellent means of expression, guiding, voicing everything.

BILAL SIDDIQUI
There is something incredibly refreshing and exciting about the artwork from upcomingartist Bilal Siddiqui from Pakistan. His strong, well -defining abstract piece ‘Amour-Drinkin Love’, beautifully illustrates the roughness one feels when experiencing the feeling. The bold brush strokes of the dramatic red magnificently portray the real essence of thepassion and submissively shows the meaning behind this painting. Even the thin strokesof black elegantly balance the severity. Through these strokes a gentler and calmer sidecan be seen of what one may shout out the impression of love. The choice of coloursused by Bilal superbly complements one another. When looking at the overall painting,a real depth of sorrow can be felt as the brush strokes overall are quite striking. It’s as ifthey symbolize the final stage of love (a feeling often associated with pain).
