Jessy Mediola on the ‘hot spot’ with new leading man Xian Lim

N

heart evangelista: marriage at balisen not true

P

year at sa Balesin Island gagawin?

SEN. CHIZ CONFIRMS MARRIAGE PLANS WITH HEART

D

espite the parents of Heart Evangelista’s public disapproval of Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero for their daughter, the senator still confirmed his intention of marrying the actress. “I really want to marry her. I’m just fixing some things and I hope to seal our relationship as soon as it’s done,” Sen. Chiz shares in “Tapatan Ni Tunying”. Rumor has it that the two are already set to wed next year. The senator currently works on the church annulment of his marriage with estranged wife Christine Flores. Sen. Chiz says he is very happy and content, and that his two-year relationship with the actress cannot be compared with any of his previous relationships. “I found what I’ve been looking for. So definitely I can’t compare my happiness to anything else. This is the first time I’ve felt this,” he reveals.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, celebrity stylist Liz Uy finally speaks up on her rumored romance with President Noynoy Aquino. Liz denies that she had a short-lived romance with the pres-

Bangs Garcia on ‘relationship’ with Enrique Gil: ‘It’s not special ’ by: Maureen Marie Belmonte

A

lthough she claims to be single for over a year now, actress Bangs Garcia is not too keen to go against what she has started by finally dating someone from showbiz. The Dyesebel star recently made headlines after being spotted traveling in Japan with Mirabella actor Enrique Gil. The surfacing of their photos has spurred rumors that they are seeing each other, something which Enrique has already clarified last month. Surprised by these rumors, Bangs on her part, during a recent interview at the sidelines of the So It’s You press conference, also said her piece about the issue. “Wala. Ano ‘yun? We’re friends. It’s not special. Wala po akong maisasagot diyan,” she quipped. Bangs even shared that she and Enrique just laughed about the issue the last time they saw each other. “Actually nag-usap kami tung-

kol diyan noong nagkita kami sa Cebu during the Sinulog Festival. The actress who is turning 27 this coming May 26 is completely loveless as of the moment. But that doesn’t mean she’s sad as she shared that she had to go through a tough heartbreak before she got to being “happily single.” REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer

T

ON TITHES AND TAXES

he Kingdom of God has two grace instruments in our world: the Church and the State. The Church is tasked with the proclamation of justification by faith in Christ Jesus while the State is tasked with the promotion of justice. Where there is justice, there is peace, and the preservation of life. Physical life, in turn, is the basic presupposition for the preaching of justification or of the Gospel so a person can have eternal life. No one preaches to a dead person. To carry out these functions, the State is given the sword of death (police power) while the Church is given the sword of life (Word and Spirit). Moreover, the State is to be supported by the citizens with their taxes and duties while the Church is to be supported by the members with their tithes and offerings. These basic relationships are within the ambit of our Lord’s teaching on giving to Cesar what is due to Caesar and to God what is due to God (Mk. 12:17). Both institutions are Christological and are accountable to God. Generally, citizens have less problem with their relationship to the State. They comply with the laws of the land and pay their taxes and duties. The reasons are many: it provides the basic structures of society where the citizens can be protected of their rights and properties. The laws and its proper enforcement allow citizens to live together in community. Such a citizenship duty is explicit in Romans 13 where the Apostle Paul enjoins all “to be subject to authority as ordained by God … to pay their taxes and duties” (vv 1-7). Compliance with state laws are due to the recognition of benefits received from the State as well as the fear of sanctions that includes fines, imprisonment, and other prohibitions. Christians on the other hand, have more problems with their relationship to the Church. Because of the voluntary nature of membership in a local church, members have more freedom to comply or not to comply with Biblical requirements which are asked of them. For example, they find it difficult to give or they give grudgingly their tithes and offerings. One report said that Christian giving is about 3% of income. Perhaps, Christians do not see much benefit from the ministries of the churches to them? Christians engage in exegetical justifications and proof textings that tithes are no longer applicable because they are now under grace not under law. One Christian claimed that he did not believe in tithing in the New Testament but that he is a generous giver to his church. Of course, giving must be generous, proportionate and cheerful. In fact, it must be sacrificial in that it begins with the giving of self to God. The man was asked “when is generous giving generous?” He answered “any giving beyond 10%.” However one views tithing, the fact remains that tithing ante-dated the laws of Moses. Jesus did not prohibit tithing but added that it must not be disconnected from justice and love (Lk. 11:42). Malachi said that the not giving of tithes and offerings is robbing God (3:10). Robbery is getting what is not ours against the will of the owner. The 8th Commandment says, “Thou shall not steal?” The logic of legal giving to the State and generous giving to the Church is that these grace instruments are necessary to God’s purpose of blessing humanity. Generous giving is by faith, trusting God that He is faithful in providing for all the needs (not greed) of His people to enjoy an abundant life. Moreover, giving is inseparable fromholy living and good stewardship. God is not just interested with His tithe but also with how we spend “our” portion (90%). God still owns everything – ourselves, our time, our talent, our treasure, and our thoughts. Giving to God is about multiplication not subtraction of His wholisticgoodness. He withholds prosperity because it often results in idolatry. His warning is clear: do not forget the Lord … for it is He who gives the power to make wealth (Deut. 8:11,17). God severely sanctions disobedience. He is the God of love and of wrath! The challenge is to test God with our faith-giving. Lord help us to seek the Kingdom first (Matt. 6:32). Nora getting busy with career

H

BS-CBN and its president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio were hailed as the Gold Stevie Award winners in the Services Company of the Year and Woman of the Year categories for the Philippines at the prestigious AsiaPacific Stevie Awards. The award-giving body recognized ABS-CBN’s business achievements in the past year, most especially its efforts to provide public service to Filipinos by launching the “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na” campaign that included initiatives such as the selling of Tulong shirts and the star-studded Tulong fund-raising concerts to help the victims of typhoon Yolanda, and conducting relief and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of typhoon Pablo, Zamboanga crisis, and the Bohol quake. Santos-Concio was cited for leading the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate into supremacy in terms of TV ratings and box office sales for Star Cinema, revenue increase, groundbreaking business ventures such as ABS-CBNmobile, theme park Kidzania Manila, and TV home shopping channel O Shopping, and its public service initiatives. In 2013, ABS-CBN was awarded as Best TV Station seven times, while Santos-Concio received five individual awards. Sarah Lahbati chooses career over marriage

S

Fishermen in Samar Build Boats for Fellow Yolanda Survivors

T

he bayanihan spirit is very much alive in Basey, Samar as fishermen affected by Typhoon Yolanda have worked together in building motor boats. ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya, through donations, has provided materials and tools for the construction of new boats. The beneficiaries are grateful for the said project that will help them in rebuilding their livelihood. “It is now possible for me to send my two children to college,” said fisherman Sanito Colminar in an interview aired on “TV Patrol.” Residents in Basey have been constructing more than 465 motor boats, which will be distributed to 20 coastal barangays. Some of the motor boats will already ben-

efit some fishermen next week. Sagip Kapamilya and Bantay Kalikasan aim to deliver 4,000 boats to the residents of Basey and Dulag, Leyte, and also to nearby towns Marabut and Sta. Rita. Three hundred three boats with fishing gears have already been distributed to different coastal areas. Basey and Dulag are the towns assigned to ABS-CBN by Pangulong Benigno Aquino III, through Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (PARR) Panfilo Lacson, for long-term rebuilding projects. Sagip Kapamilya has also widened its efforts by sending help to neighboring towns Sta. Rita and Marabut. Sagip Kapamilya has also pledged the building of 108 classrooms in Basey and Dulag. Twenty one of which are under construction, while four have been finished. The foundation continues to send help to Yolanda survivors. Sabi niya,’hindi, ano lang naman, kaibigan.’ Sabi ko, ‘trouble yan, ihinto mo na.’ Eh hindi hininto, eh di naghiwalay.” She also revealed that she is actually thankful to Cesar’s ‘other woman’ that time. I’m thankful for her. I’m (gonna) even hug her. I’m thankful ‘Nakawala ako, Kris. ABS-CBN IS THE MOST-WATCHED TV NETWORK IN APRIL

M

ore Filipinos nationwide tuned in to the high-caliber programs of ABS-CBN in April as it maintained its leadership over rival TV networks and hit an average audience share of 44%, or nine points ahead of GMA’s 35%, based on data from Kantar Media. Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population. ABS-CBN also remained undisputed in key territories across the country such as in Balance Luzon (all areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), where ABS-

CBN scored an average audience share of 46% vs GMA’s 37%. The network continued to lead the Visayas and Mindanao garnering 57% and 54% respectively, or twice GMA’s 26% and 27%. Data also show that ABS-CBN sustained its primetime (6PM-12MN) supremacy with an average audience share of 48%, or 15 points higher than the 33% of GMA. The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively. Aside from leading in primetime, ABS-CBN’s early afternoon (12NN-3PM) and late afternoon (3PM6PM) programming blocks climbed up in the previous month. From 43% in March,

Actually when I’m asked I would say, ‘Yes I did something,’” she nonchalantly shrugged off during her live appearance on the Sunday episode of Buzz ng Bayan. The decision to undergo a cosmetic surgery she explained was pretty much a necessity for her especially since she often stands in front of the crowd and the camera. “Of course. Even regular person can actually do anything with her own body eh pano pa kaya kaming laging nasa harap ng camera. I had my nose done. I had my teeth done,” she confessed. Was it done all at once? “Hindi, hindi. Kasi even before pa I already have problems with my teeth. Noon pa man and unti-unti lang nag-iiba because may mga trial period eh,” clarified the “Bukas Nalang Kita Mamahalin” singer. Meanwhile, Lani who’s back in the country and about to launch her first album under Star Records also answered issues about her return. Rumor has it that she was forced to come back to the country after

the casino, where she’s mainstay performer, opted not to renew her contract. “Hindi sa hindi na-renew. Hanggang dun lang talaga ‘yung kontrata namin,” she explained. She however quickly related that she is currently coming up with new material for the casino. “To work in a casino, hindi po biro especially nakikipagbunuan ka sa malalaking shows doon. Meron kaming binubuo sana pero it’s not easy. It really has to be a very, very good show for you to compete with the rest,” she said. ani Misalucha is back in the country and is set to release an album under Star Records titled The Nightingale Returns. She remarked that she is truly elated to be part of the Star Records family and to embark on a new journey with the recording company. “I really feel ecstatic and happy na I am here. I am very, very happy that there are new people surrounding me, new company, new adventure,” she stated. On why it took so long for her to release an album again in the Philippines, she commented, “I don’t know, siguro talaga lang inihain lang ‘to sa akin, ito na talaga ‘yung tamang panahon,” she said. She’s also looking forward to doing concerts in the country.

Napakahusay niya, parang gumawa siya ng sarili niyang genre, nag-create siya ng sarili niyang music lalo na nong nag-perform siya sa halftime show, talagang at top of his game,” she said. When asked about her advice for all the aspiring singers in the country, she relayed, “If they want to be a singer, mag-perform, make it sure that they are not just there to sing for themselves, they have to sing their songs to everyone. They really have to share their soul I guess ‘yun ‘yung makikita ‘yung kabuuan mo if an individual looks at you they can actually look into your soul and understand your whole being,” she said.

Kathryn Bernardo talks about her Mom and Daniel Padilla

A

by: Rhea Manila Santos

fter a well-deserved vacation abroad with her entire family, Kathryn Bernardo said she is lucky to have such a supportive and understanding mom who is not just there to guide her at work, but also there to share the good times with her as well. “Ever since super supportive siya. Open ako sa kanya. Yung relationship namin open kami sa isa’t isa. Hind naman siya strikto. Ano pa nga nung nag-out-of-country kami game pa si mama as in lakad kami, lakad din siya. Nag-bike kami, nag-bike din siya. Alam mo yun, nag-ta-try naman talaga si mama na suportahan yung gusto ko sa bakasyon namin and of course andun pa rin yung pagiging motherly niya,” she said. Even after 18 last March, Kath said nothing much has changed when it comes to the ground rules from her Mommy Min. The teen actress said that even though her relationship with her mom is not overly affectionate, it doesn’t mean they love each other any less than any mother-daughter relationship. “Hindi kasi ako clingy kay mama eh. Hindi kami yung parating nag-a-‘I love you,’ ganyan. For me mas okay yung pinapakita mo na lang more than saying it,” she added. After admitting that she had voice lessons this summer, Kath said that it was not specifically just for Daniel Padilla’s concert but also to prepare her for her upcoming album later this year. Although she said may not be a natu-

Hindi pa nag-sa-start mag-recording, wala pa,” she said. Kath said she listens to different kinds of music right now. After putting her studies on hold because of work, Kath says she is still not sure she can enroll this semester. Pero ngayon kung may chance talaga gagawin ko. ilipinas Got Talent season one winner Jovit Baldivino is out to prove that he’s more than just a performer with powerhouse vocals as he sets off to become a good example by continuing his education. Jovit proudly shared that he is currently on his second year in college taking up BS Criminology at the Batangas State University in preparation to fulfill his dream of becoming a lawyer. “’Yun ‘yung isa sa mga pangarap ko: kung hindi ako maging mechanical engineer, gusto ko mag-abogado,” he said in an interview during the recently-concluded press conference for Rock & Soul, his upcoming concert with The Voice of the Philippines finalist Thor Dulay on May 17 at the Music Museum. In the event that everything goes well for the 20-year-old reality show alumni, he will be the first lawyer in their family. Isa siya sa pinakamagaling na lawyer dito sa Pilipinas,” the singer said without revealing the identity of his godfather. Even his pre-law course was a suggestion by his godfather. But Jovit reiterated that he also thought Criminology would be a good option than other courses. Apart from school, Jovit happily shared that he’s also taking up acting workshops from Star Magic “in preparation” for future offers that might come his way. In 2010, Jovit became part of the musical TV series Idol fronted by Coco Martin and Sarah Geronimo. He was also part of Growing Up with Kathryn Bernar-

do and Daniel Padilla. Despite doing the tough task of juggling his showbiz career and his education, Jovit claimed that he’s happy that he’s given the opportunity to do both. What matters most according to Jovit is that his family has extended full support in his current journey of being a singer and at the same time a student. Jovit clarified that pursuing his dream to become a lawyer is not for any plans to enter politics in the near future.

then after nun umuwi ako and then umalis na ako ulit for Korea. Kath said that she was not able to meet up with Daniel Padilla during Holy Week when he was also in Paris for a show. Oo naman pero sinigurado ko na nandito ako sa birthday niya,” she said during her launch as the new Ruffles Bags endorser held at SM Makati. Kath revealed she was able to do a little shopping abroad and one of the things

she purchased was a birthday gift for DJ who turned 19 last month. Although the teen actress wouldn’t divulge exactly what she bought, she said she can only give it to him this month. “Secret (laughs) hindi nga niya alam pa eh. Baka this month ko pa mabibigay. Basta (laughs),” she explained. The Kapamilya star said she is happy for DJ for his success right now, including his recent concert.

Ai Ai ready to join politics in 2016 and vows never to get married again By Reyma Buan-Deveza, ABS-CBNnews.com

ANILA -- Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas on Tuesday confirmed that she is running for an elected position in 2016, saying her idol, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, has inspired her to enter the political arena. In an interview during the launch of her latest endorsement, delas Alas said she has long wanted to run for public office, although she is still undecided whether to target a local or national post. “Kaya lang nung nag-usap kami ni Ate Vi, sabi niya if hindi pa ako ready by heart, huwag na muna. Ngayon, ready na ako by heart so game na,” the “Tanging Ina” star said. Asked why she wants to run, delas Alas said in jest: “Idol ko si Ate Vi. Wala nga lang akong asawang senador but later on malay mo, hindi ba?”

The actress, who also hails from Batangas, said she’s ready to face criticisms, adding that Santos will be there to guide her.

Asked of her priority projects if she will be given a chance to serve, delas Alas replied: “Kung sa bayan namin siguro magpo-focus ako kung paano iimprove ‘yung bayan. Sa economy, gusto kong gumawa ng batas sa mga kababaihan, about women and children kasi ‘yun ang naging problema ko, battered wife. Gusto ko maging second Boracay ang Calatagan,” she said. The actress stressed that her decision to join politics does not mean that she will soon quit showbiz. “No naman, half-half lang,” said delas Alas, who reported that she has already registered in her hometown in Calatagan, Batangas. The actress also said her children supports her decision to enter politics. “Alam naman nila. Kakausapin

‘Bakit?’ ‘Hindi ba magra-run ako?’ ‘Ah talaga, tuloy ba yon?’ ‘Yun ang sagot niya. Alam mo naman ‘yung mga anak ko, sabi nila, ‘Anything that will make you happy.’ Meanwhile, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas vowed never to get married again. “No. Hindi na. Period,” delas Alas told reporters in an interview on Tuesday during the launch of her latest endorsement. The 49-year-old actress admitted she was traumatized when she married 28-year-old businessman Jed Salang last year, which lasted just a little over a month. Asked if she lost faith in true love, the comedienne replied: “I think yes ...not so sure.” In the interview, delas Alas avoided answering questions about Salang. But when asked about guys who might not take her seriously, especially after she admitted that she had undergone vaginal tightening, delas Alas said: “Titikman ko lang din naman sila, eh di patas lang. Delas Alas is currently busy with her series “Dysebel” with Anne Curtis.

“Well siyempre mapapanood at makikilala na nila si Monica and si Monicaisang achiever, isang babaengwho knows what she wants. Whatever she wants, she gets. She just expresses herself in a different way andganun talaga kapag isang leaderpero in the end masarap siyang magmahal.” After three years of being lonely, I can smile.” I mean I have friends na good looking talaga pero as of now huwag na muna natin irevealyung mga nagpapangiti sa akin.” “Siguro right now ang focus ko is trabaho muna. Siyempre aside from Maybe This Time nandiyan yung It Takes Guts To Be A Gutierrez, napakabusy ng schedule ko. As much as I want to smile because of love, for me love can wait kasi kapag successful ka at marami kang ginagawa sa trabaho mo you radiate this positive energy na yung love lalapit na lang sa iyo.”

Lorin she sent me a long letter, ang sabi, ‘Mommy as much as I want you to be single forever, naintindihan namin that you know you will end up loving someone, and I don’t want you to grow old alone.’ So I cried for one hour, medyo nagbonding moment kami.

A Mother’s Request By Pastor Donald Castro Matthew 20:20-28 Revised ‘New International Version (NIV)’ This month is a very special day for mothers, where all people around the world give honour to mothers.... WHY? let us go back to the Word of God & learn from it.... the example of a mother. The mother of John & James........BUT who are mothers really? Mothers are teachers, disciplinarians, cleaning ladies. Some are gardeners & mowers of lawns. And most mothers understand that baking cookies or pandesal is more important than washing windows, too. It is a 24 hours on-call job..... They are also nurses, doctors, psychologists, counselors, chauffeurs or drivers & coaches, mathematician...developers of personalities, molders of vocabularies, & shapers of attitudes. Name it & somehow for some reason they are capable & able to do it for the sake of their loved ones. Last but not the least,!mothers are soft voices saying, “I love you.” “And are a link to God, a child’s first impression of God’s love.” & THAT IS THEIR GOD’S CALLING AS A MOTHER TO THEIR CHILDREN! With all this in mind about their ROLE as a mother we can better understand Mrs. Zebedee’s action, the mother of James & John in the Gospel of Matthew 20:20-23. Mrs. Zebedee was aware of the teachings of Jesus about His kingdom. She was also very aware of the fact that her sons, James & John, were close to Him. They were just two-thirds of the inner circle of Peter, who are - James, & John. So she was certain that when the Lord formed His kingdom “a political one” that they would have positions of responsibility & authority. But in the first part of this same chapter, Jesus tells a story that must have disturbed her. “It was a story about a landowner who went out to find laborers early in the morning. They agreed upon a fair day’s wage & started working. Then at noon he went out & found some more, & they started working. Then towards evening he went out & found some more & they started working. Yet, when the Lord paid them off at the end of the day they all received the same wage.” *It must have caused Mrs. Zebedee to wonder & ponder, “Will my sons really have positions of authority in the Lord’s new kingdom?”* So when the opportunity presented itself she came to the Lord. Matthew says that she bowed (worshipped) before Him

& made this request, “When you establish your kingdom, I would request seats on your right & left hand for my two sons.” (In short she is asking for a favour) Let us reflect & learn from her example as a Mother I. She prayed that her sons might be a part of the kingdom I can think of no more important task of motherhood than that - ‘to seek & ensure that your children are a part of the kingdom of God. I know that many of us do pray. Sometimes we do pray too out of necessity. We pray because motherhood is not easy, but rather extremely difficult! When we are overwhelmed with pressure & difficulty - we might ask our spouse “ when I married you, Is this part of the contract? Being a mother is a calling!!!!! Sometimes mothers pray just out of the frustration of it all. And sometimes in the frustration of trying to teach our children we realize the difficulties of communication. Being a parent is not easy. Sometimes it is filled with joy & sometimes with sadness. Sometimes your children make you so proud you want to pop your buttons. At other times you can’t find enough handkerchiefs to dry your tears. It is difficult. But Mrs. Zebedee gives us a valuable example, for she prayed earnestly that her sons would be a part of His kingdom. We need that same concern for our children. - to pray that they will be saved, saved from eternal damnation, & saved for eternal life. & that is the place to begin. “What good is it if our children are successful in making money, & driving fine automobiles, & living in good neighbourhoods, but they don’t know God? What does it matter if they gain the whole world, but lose their souls?” II. She prayed that her sons would be ‘actively’ involved in the work of his kingdom’ Yes! It is so true that it is not enough just to be saved. Churches are full of people, content just to fill a bench on Sunday mornings. There are plenty of people

willing to sit back & receive the blessings, but seldom do they get involved in doing any of the real work of the church. But where does REALLY the spirit of service begin? It begins at home, with mothers & fathers setting the example & praying that their sons & daughters, might be involved in the work of the kingdom - as teachers & leaders, discipling others - that they might be the ones to go out into the world & find the lost - to see that the church continues on until Jesus comes again. Mrs. Zebedee prayed that her children would be actively involved in the work of His kingdom. And we need to walk in her footsteps, too, mothers of this community. She not only prayed but she had big expectations as well. YES she had big expectations, & I like that. She didn’t just pray that her children would be doorkeepers. She wanted them on the right hand & left hand of Jesus. When you’re working in a kingdom, there are no higher positions than those on the right & left of the King himself, & that’s what she wanted for her sons. We may consider Mrs. Zebedee TOO ambitious & over confident. But I admire her boldness. Too often we have settled for mediocrity in the church. For too long we have been content with just barely making it through the door. For too long we have been content to sit back & let things happen. “It is time for some of us to take our positions on the right & left hand, to

become leaders - molding & fashioning the outreach of the church - mobilizing to make sure the message of Christ goes into all the world.” It is time to strive for excellence - to reach for the very best there is. The Lord calls us to be His disciples, & to be effective laborers in His kingdom. I suppose that is why this month is very special - because we learned & recognized that our or mother’s love is probably or somehow the closest example we have to God’s love. It is a love that goes through the valley of the shadow of death to bring life into being. It is a love that sacrifices itself over & over again & would even dare to lay down its life for its own offspring. A blessed Mothers Day! Julia Baretto impresses Mom and the Press

I

ARTISTA WINNIPEG MAY ISSUE

John Lloyd Cruz bares sexier body in first shirtless billboard

T

wo weeks after revealing his new and improved physique in Boracay, a leaner John Lloyd Cruz took his transformation to the next level by posing for his first ever shirtless billboard. The billboard which can be found along EDSA-Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City features a relatively toned Cruz together with Dyesebel star Anne Curtis, his co-endorser. The caption “Two hot superbods made possible by Superbods Diet & Workout” was emblazoned on the billboard to accompany the revealing photo. The Home Sweetie Home star took on the runway of the 2014 Century Tuna Su-

After undertaking the six-week fitness challenge wherein he was tasked to work out and eat healthy, Cruz happily shared in a previous ABS-CBN News report that he lost 18 pounds. From 170 pounds, Cruz now weighs 152 pounds. “Sinabi ko nung I turned 30 last year, sinabi ko na isa ‘yun sa goals ko – na maging mas fit, maging healthier andmagkaroon ng balanced lifestyle talaga. Mahirap ‘yung puro ka lang trabaho because we are not getting any younger so dapat talaga balanced,” he said.

Bianca Gonzalez shares her fears about getting married by: Maureen Marie Belmonte

espite getting a dreamy, movielike wedding proposal from her boyfriendturned-fiance JC Intal at the NAIA airport almost two months ago and claiming that she found “no reason to say no,” host Bianca Gonzalez opened up about a few qualms that she has about settling down. While many expect her to fully embrace married life and have kids of her own immediately after they tie the knot, Bianca, in an interview at the Pinoy Big Brother All In press conference, seemed undecided if this is the path that she’s willing to take. “If you ask me at this moment parang hindi kasi siyempre in my head 25 years old pa rin ako sohindi ko pa siya matanggap. But andaming magbabago eh ‘di ba if you decide to have kids sosiguro kami as a couple we’ll talk and siyempre ma-affect ‘yung work ko and I have to talk to Tito Boy [Abunda] and Direk Lauren [Dyogi] ganyan,” she said adding that, “Kailangan yata ngayon pinaplano na ng

smart, hindi pwede ‘yung go lang ng go.” What seems to be a major factor in Bianca’s hesitation of sorts was how being a mother would affect her image and therefore her showbiz career, which the Kapamilya host clearly said that she doesn’t want to give up. She shared. In addition, Bianca candidly confessed that she’s “scared” as to how getting married would affect the projects that she would be getting in the future. “Oo siyempre kasi new chapter, new image. There will be certain show na hindi ko na pwedeng gawin kasi hindi na bagay sa may asawa, parang ganon.Of course I’m worried. I mean it has happened to me so many times. Sana may work pa rin. Pero tinawanan lang naman ako nila Direk Lauren, so I guess okay pa rin naman,” she revealed.

On a lighter note, Toni said that she’s partly happy since PBB will give her sister a great learning experience. “I hope marami siyang matutunan and she will take something from this whole experience that will help her and eventually mold her to become a better person.” Toni previously became a housemate herself and she believes that the whole PBB experience will transform her sister like what happened to her. “Kasi kaming lahat naging housemates (Bianca Gonzalez, John Prats, Robi Domingo). Ang dami

ing na-discover sa sarili namin that helped us a lot not just as hosts of the program, ‘yung ano mas naging mabuting tao,” she said. If she was to give her sister any advice, Toni said she hopes that Alex will learn to take things more seriously especially that she is now a housemate. She doesn’t take things seriously in life so I think dito kahit papano sumeryoso siya sa ilang bahagi ng buhay niya,” she said. ARTISTA WINNIPEG MAY ISSUE

Friends and Family help Carla move on

blood. That is why, she is into an acting workshop with ABS-CBN. However, she revealed, that she is still planning to join beauty pageants in the future to fulfill her dreams. But, she wants to grow and mature before joining another beauty pageant. Although her parents fully support her desire to become an actress, as her parents are both popular actors in the industry, and like most parents, Christopher and Sandy are said to be very protective of her. Mother Sandy Andolong, however, in an open letter on Kris TV last year, vowed not to become a stage parent as much as possible. Mariel is a stunning beauty who looks like a doll. Maybe a threat to other actresses, but she is, definitely, a very pleasant addition to the Kapamilya network.

fter losing a total of 154 pounds or 52.56% of his initial weight, Bryan Castillo was named the Pinoy Biggest Loser during the final weigh-in of “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” last night (April 26). From 293 pounds, Bryan now weighs 139 pounds. He recorded the highest weight loss percentage among his cofinalists Kayen Lazaro, Francis Asis, and Osie Nebreja to win P1 million, P100,000 worth of sporting goods and accessories, a business franchise package, home appliance showcase, and lifetime gym membership. “Everything that’s happening hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m very happy to get the title. My only wish is to make my family happy. This is what God gave me,” Bryan said. “Now, I’m standing here in front of you with no fears. I won’t look back. I’m looking forward to a better future and a better Bryan,” he added. Bryan was part of Team Magkapatid with his sister Ikya, who got eliminated during the show’s tenth weigh-in. As a pair, they recorded the highest numbers of wins in the program’s major challenges. Working mom Kayen was hailed as the first runner-up with a weight loss percentage of 50.52% or 145 pounds to weigh 142 from an initial weight of 287 pounds. She brought home P500,000.

Bagong Bigateam’s Francis and Osie were declared the second and third runners-up, respectively, with weight loss percentages of 48.85% and 47.5%. Because they made it to the finale as a pair, they got double the P300,000 and P200,000 cash prizes they were supposed to get. Francis, the season’s youngest contestant, shed 149 pounds to weigh 156 pounds from 305 pounds, while 45-year-old Osie lost 133 pounds to weigh 147 pounds from 280 pounds. All the runners-up were also awarded one-year gym membership and a home appliance showcase. The grand finale was hosted by Iza Calzado, along with challenge masters Matteo Guidicelli and Robi Domingo. Ex-contestants Ikya, Carl Lazaro, Ralph and Christian Du, Pat Martinez and Cathy Bautista, and Tin and Dianne Obsina also flaunted their slimmer figures at the grand finale. For the first time in the history of the global TV franchise, the contestants in “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” didn’t use gym equipment to lose weight. Trained by fitness coaches and real-life married couple Jim and Toni Saret, the show’s contestants lost a total of 1,421 pounds before last night’s final weigh-in.

What happened between her and her nameless ex-boyfriend she says has taught her to be more cautious in guarding her heart. “Ngayon, nag-eentertain ako ng suitors. I’m not saying na ayaw kong magka-boyfriend ngayon. It’s just that I haven’t found the right one,” said Bangs. Most of her suitors as of the moment are non-showbiz. In fact, she even claimed to have not had a celebrity boyfriend ever. But that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t seen anyone from showbiz in the past, the only person on the list is acoustic heartthrob Sam Milby. “Yeah Sam and I dated during the Close Up days oh my God ang tagal na nun,” she blurted. Despite having moved on from the hunk Kapamilya star, Bangs candidly confessed that she still “adores” the Filipino-American actor-singer. “I adore him. Of course he’s handsome, magaling umarte, napakabait. Sino ba naman ang hindi magkakagusto sakanya diba?” she said, however she quickly added that, “Pero wala, we’re just really friends right now.’ What if there’s a continuation of their romance? “Why not? Pero wala eh. Hindi pa na-rekindle ang spark… pero I’m not closing my doors. As what I said, friends kami ngayon,” she underscored. Aside from Dyesebel, Bangs is also part of the movie So It’s You under Regal Films together with Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez and JC de Vera. One of the three children in Hawak Kamay will be Andrea Brillantes, the star of the successful series Annaliza, who recently celebrated her 11th birthday. Though she won’t play the lead role in this new teleserye, the director said this is one strategy which will help Andrea grow as an actress and to be honed as a future teleserye princess.
