factor of vital importance for the survival not only of our economy, but also of our artistic and cultural systems. Passing knowledge on is something of inestimable value, which becomes more and more significant in a context like the one in Lombardy, rated as “beautiful and well made”, sought after and appreciated all over the world. Thanks to the project ARTIS, and to numerous initiatives carried out, the Region of Lombardy intelligently promotes and supports those arts professions that have made a fundamental contribution to the excellence of Lombard artistic craftsmanship, and that can ensure its continuity and growth: and we, too, with the Fondazione Cologni, want to make a small contribution to the Maestri of the new generation, who can guarantee this excellence for the future, as well as provide an absolutely necessary opening. Our contribution and our appreciation of the ARTIS project have taken on concrete form in two sixmonth contracts for two especially meritorious students selected from Lombard training schools and assigned to two firms that turned out to be “excellent” according to the parameters of the ARTIS project. We are truly happy with the results of this first round, and it is our intention to continue: because today more than ever, we feel how necessary it is to support and motivate young people who
make the courageous decision of devoting their creativity and talent to a profession that requires sacrifice and dedication. However, when viewed in perspective, this profession will have rewards in store for them (also in the economic sphere) that are truly extraordinary. Of course, we are living in difficult times: often firms want to hire young talent, but the do not always manage to do so. And not all young people can afford to work for months without even being reimbursed for expenses. But this is why it becomes all the more urgent and strategic to support and encourage training, transmission, passion and culture: fundamental elements that will allow artistic craftsmanship in Lombardy to keep up its high standard of excellence and its extraordinary social and economic preciousness. If we want Made in Italy to keep on shining in the world thanks to the many Maestri whose message continues to arouse admiration and passion, this message must be passed on, taught – so that it is not wasted, but is learned again and again, and interpreted according to the norms of the contemporary. To make creative impulse and practical application coexist, to make the passion of the heart live together with the intelligence of the hand – this is the challenge that we desire and that we want to accept.
