The International Award Ceramic Design 2003 prestigious recognition to the value of a great artist and designer From the catalogue of the exhibition “Marcello Morandini – everyday environment 2003” occurred at the International Museum Ceramic Design of Laveno (Province of Varese), we publish an excerpt of the preface of Lara Vinca Masini. In the catalogue of an exhibition of his, Marcello Morandini defines his daughter, at that time four years old, “this living and refracting mirror under quick transformation”, “for whose every question not always I have an answer coming from experience”: it seems almost a declaration of poetics: there is all his anxiety, his need to catch up with this “quick transformation” to which he replies with the energy “under continuous transformation” of his projects, whether those of the drawings, of the sculptures, of the proposals of architectonic space, or those of his refined design. All works belonging to his interpretation of the world as it should be, according to the globality of his design, “globality” which has nothing to do here with the process of globalization transforming the world and the human condition – and certainly it does not consist of multiethnicity… Morandini pursues his project with the strength, the courage pertaining to his ethics, that which marked the historicalartistic moment in which he started very young his committed activity. I divided my work about the contemporary art and literature according to an analysis on two lines, parallel and intersected, one I defined, following Schopenhauer,
“the line of Unicity (Art as will, not representation)” and the other “the line of model (Art as image of the world)”. Morandini’s work fits into this second sector, following Bauhaus and all the European and American schools which from that have started through its teachers… It seems to me that the operative path of Morandini, with his programs under continuous transformation, the organic dynamics about an idea of formativity, the projects
transforming mathematics itself into continuous creativity, has developed as a race, a progressive taking sides for exorcizing the irreversibility of this acceleration which does not leave any space to thought and upsets our current living. It is with this that we have to put ourselves to the test: this is the true great change of our time; it needs an unending updating, it seems to wear out on the arising itself every idea of “new”, which yet it imposes continuously…
