The museum of man
The bookshop becomes the icon of the museum in the Creapolis project, proposed in the Hightech Museum Laboratory of the SMAU 2004. The Hightech Museum library, an interesting initiative of SMAU 2004, offers a demonstration of the latest technologies applied to the museum field. In this context, there is a project for a bookshop proposed by Creapolis for an ideal Museum of Man. When we visit a museum, we wander about curious and ravenous. It is like being suspended in a “non time that amplifies our perceptions. Sensations and emotions, that we wish would never end, ask to be materialised, to become tangible objects to be carried about in our daily life, to hold on to the magic of the place also when it is absent. Museum marketing, in this sense, plays a role of primary importance in the perception of the visitor of the museum experience: the art preserved in the museum becomes in the shop a democratic art within the reach of everyone. Not at all cut off from the museum atmosphere, the shop recreates and dilates the display space, integrating in it, however, its own well-defined and recognisable personality. The shop, conceived as the concentrated essence of the museum, transmits its values and its contents. This is the idea that guides the furnishing project proposed by Creapolis, where the space has been conceived as a bookshop of an ideal Museum of Man, that does not preserve fragments of the past history of humanity, but rather, looks towards a possible future, in which Man understood as a male, becomes a rarity. Reality is presented specularly divided into two different dimensional planes that oppose each other and mix with unexpected continuity.
