N

ew York Fashion Week isn’t just about what happens on the runway. It’s what you wear to catch the eyes of street-style photographers and turn the heads of influencers — no easy feat when you’re in a fashion wonderland. It’s securing a highly sought-after facial at Joanna Vargas to get that lit-from-within glow. It’s knowing where to get a post-show nightcap. And of course, it’s scoring an after-party ticket that is often more coveted than an invite to the show itself. (Hello, Alexander Wang!) If you’re going to mingle with the style world’s A-listers, the first step is dressing the part. Uptown girls with an edge should make a stop at Fivestory, the beloved boutique showcasing Claire Distenfeld’s carefully curated mix of bold names, including Balmain and Dior, and up-and-comers like Ellery. The downtown set should hit up Opening Ceremony, the veritable shop that has put designers like Rodarte on the map and has dreamed up some of the most visionary collaborations. Gussied up? You’re ready to hit the shows. Kick things off Thursday with Erin Fetherston’s frothy frocks that are girly with a dash of daring. Break for lunch at Dirty French on the Lower East Side inside the Ludlow. Next, check out Marissa Webb, who honed her eye at J.Crew then famously brought Banana Republic to the runway while simultaneously overseeing her eponymous line of tomboy staples with a feminine flair. True fashionistas know style is all in the details. Start Friday off right with some
