Valerie Steele vsteeleart@gmail.com San Diego CA 619.764.8794 Member, IATSE Local 800, since 1996 Bio Valerie Steele has worked as a theatre scenic artist in San Diego since 1995, working first at the San Diego Opera Scenic Studio for three years, and the La Jolla Playhouse and Department of Theatre & Dance for ten. She became an IATSE member of the Scenic, Title and Graphic Artists in 1996 while working at the San Diego Opera Scenic Studio. At the La Jolla Playhouse and Department of Theatre & Dance, she was Assistant Charge Artist for three years. She has worn many hats at LJP & UCSD, from overhire scenic artist, Interim Assistant Charge, scenic painting instructor in scene shop practicum classes, to Interim Charge Artist. She has worked on shows at other theatres in San Diego, including The Old Globe, The Rep, Sledgehammer, Stone Soup (Scenic Designer) and San Diego Junior Theatres. Valerie, also a high school Art and English California credentialed teacher with a masters degree in Cross Cultural Studies, continues to take scenic and freelance art work whenever she can. She has a BA in Art from UCLA. She lives and works in San Diego, is married to an IATSE member, and has two daughters.
