The Kids’ Art Camp has been developed to foster knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts. Students will explore a wide variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and three-dimensional work under the guidance of our highly qualified instructors. Each week, classes conclude with an exhibition where parents/caregivers are invited to view their child’s artistic creations.

ART & NATURE Young artists will be inspired by the incredible power and beauty of nature!

Snow covered hills, desert canyons, and mountainous peeks will all be part of the ecofriendly and eco-FUN projects as students explore the many different and exciting uses for reusable materials in the art-making process. Keeping nature, animals, and different environments in mind, students will have a chance to learn, explore, and CREATE!

MINI-MASTERS Become a mini art master! Be inspired by Rembrandt, Seurat, Picasso

and other old and new masters as you create and experiment with various mediums. Students will create art projects based upon well-known art styles such as Realism, Pointillism and Cubism, to name a few. Unleash the art master within and have fun while you create and learn.

IMAGINATION EXPLORATION Amazing things happen with a little imagination! Exploring

various art media, young artists will be encouraged to bring creative thoughts to life. The possibilities are endless. What if dinosaurs visited the Met in New York City? What if people were actually the size of ants? What does the world look like in your imagination? This exciting theme will keep students thinking and imagining long after camp comes to an end.

ART AROUND THE GLOBE Do you speak “Art”? No matter how you say it, “Art” is a universal language. Come travel the world to see how different cultures and countries celebrate and create art. Focusing on a different country each project, students will explore a variety of techniques and styles inspired by the featured country.

Ages groups may vary slightly depending on the number of students enrolled in a particular group. There is a maximum of 16 students to a group.

Friday Art Exhibitions:

At the end of each week we install the artwork created throughout the Strolling Galleries on the first and second floors of the Art Center. Families are invited to attend to see their child’s artistic creations. The exhibitions are on Fridays at 2 pm.


(ages 13 – 15)

The Teen Art Camp is geared towards the mature aspiring artist with a desire to explore a variety of art media and techniques. Led by instructors specializing in teens, students will be inspired and guided through an appealing array of creative projects including landscape painting, portraiture, wheel thrown pottery, digital imaging using Photoshop®, mixed media collages and more. Projects vary on a weekly basis so teen artists can explore a variety of media. Friday Art Exhibitions: A group exhibition featuring the artwork created by teen campers during the week is installed on easels and walls in the Art Center’s Painting Studio to give students a taste of a real art opening. Families are invited to attend this exhibition to view the accomplishments of their aspiring teen artist. Exhibitions are held on each Friday of camp session at 2 pm.


(ages 16 – 18)

This program offers students the opportunity to work on their entrance portfolio for submittal to fine arts colleges over the course of four weeks. Based on the curriculums and portfolio requirements of the top five fine arts schools (Rhode Island School of Design, School of Visual Arts, Pratt, Parsons, Maryland Institute College of Art), each week is designed to cover a specific topic. Each topic will be closely examined through demonstrations, hands on exercises, and art history lessons, and will conclude with a class critique which parents/guardians are invited to attend. Attendance all four weeks is not required. Session 1: Compositional Studies Through Still Life $400 July 16 - 20, 12 pm – 4 pm Learn about composition, light & shadow, color & value and more while working from various still life arrangements. Work will be completed in both black & white and color. Session 2: Perspective & Spatial Illusion $400 July 23 – 27, 12 pm – 4 pm Master the application of one, two and three-point perspectives, explore the usage of vanishing points, and learn how to accurately portray interior and exterior space through the rendering of detail. All work will be completed in black and white. Session 3: Modern Painting Techniques $400 July 30 – August 3, 12 pm – 4 pm Explore modern painting techniques by experimenting with abstraction and nontraditional methods of representation. All work will be completed in color. Session 4: Figure Studies & Life Drawing $450 (due to daily live model) August 6 – 10, 12 pm – 4 pm Explore the figure and draw from live (nude) models. Learn how to achieve anatomical accuracy in figural renderings by learning about major forms and contours, measuring, sighting and the Canon of Proportions. All work will be completed in black and white


(ages 6 – 9) Have your child explore new creative techniques while taking part in our Summer Saturday Art Camp. Over the course of seven Saturdays, your child will create two projects a day based on the Kids’ Art Camp themes. Students will work in various media including Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, Collage and more while learning about artists, art from other countries and time periods. Payment Procedures: Each session must be paid in full at the time of registration. A $25 fee will be assessed for any returned check.

Refund Policy: Refunds for canceled camp/portfolio sessions will be handled in the following manner Cancellation 14 days or more before the session begins: 80% refund Cancellation 7 – 13 days before the session begins: 60% refund Cancellation 3 – 6 days before the session begins: 40% refund Cancellation 0 – 2 days before the session begins: No refund

Photographs: The Art Center will occasionally document programs using photography or video for

promotional purposes only. If you do not wish you child to be photographed, please notify the Art Center in writing.
