STUDIO N2 is a new programme of support designed by ART AGAINST KNIVES to reduce serious youth violence & safeguard young people living in the N2 area. We aim to strengthen & increase the early intervention & prevention offer for local young people. Working in partnership with Grange Big Local , Barnet Homes & the local community we will provide the following… COMMUNITY OUTREACH: delivered by local ‘Role Models’ - we will engage with young people who need our support the most, & who have little access to opportunity. ACTIVITIES: award-winning creative projects, designed with young people. These include a community nail bar for young women, a pop-up music studio & weekly martial arts & fitness training - open weekly, 48 weeks of the year. BESPOKE MENTORING PROGRAMME: delivered by highly experienced staff, who have a unique ability to engage with young people involved in serious youth violence. We will work with young people to address the challenges they face and support them in accessing specialist support.

VALES NAILS is a free community Nail Bar for young women age 12-25. Participants can: ● ● ●

Learn new nail skills; take part in training & paint their peers’ nails Get their nails painted as customers Socialise in a safe place; develop personal skills and positive networks.

Through 1:1 conversation we help young people address the risks they face & make safe choices. Staff are highly experienced & include specialist workers such as our in-house YDVA (Young People’s Domestic Violence Advisor)

The LAB is a free 'studio style' project, offering bespoke support for young people aged 12-25. The weekly, open-access music programme offers young people the opportunity to make music, learn new skills to an industry standard, & socialise positively in a safe space with their peers. We’ve partnered with the East Finchley Combat Academy to deliver a weekly martial arts and fitness training session for local young people. Staff at the Academy have been trained in our safe delivery model, including safeguarding, conflict resolution & Mental Health first-aid. Participants can access weekly training classes for free, progress within EFCA internal grading scheme & receive mentoring from the inspiring staff team.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME You can refer young people into our bespoke ‘ Personal Development Programme.’ Delivered by experienced mentors, we provide structured support that includes personal action plans, signposting to local support services, conflict management, safety planning, accessing specialist services and support into education, employment & training. Our programme aims to strengthen the personal, social and educational capabilities of young people. Working in 12-week blocks, the mentor will support them in: 1. 2. 3.

Training & workshops delivered by a range of creative industry professionals; participants are up-skilled with practical, creative & transferable skills. Accreditations in personal and professional development & project management. Mentoring delivered by experienced role models to strengthen resilience & motivate. Practical support in remaining engaged in education, employment & training. Managing relationships & brokering with support services & other professionals. The opportunity to build on ‘softer’ skills such as communication & negotiation. Specialist support with issues such as domestic violence, mental health & housing. The tools required to overcome setbacks, learn from experience, control behaviours, make safe choices & increase self-esteem. Pop-up showcase events to reduce social exclusion, through access to new networks & positive interaction with peers & the wider community.

WHO WE ARE The ART AGAINST KNIVES team are highly experienced, rooted within the community and have expert local knowledge of the borough of Barnet. We have extensive experience of engaging with and providing long-term support to some of the borough's most vulnerable and isolated young people. Our in-house expertise include a YDVA service (Young Person & Violence Advisor- specialising in domestic abuse), housing / specialist advice, working with young carers, gang-associated young people & managing challenging behaviour. We are proud of our high quality work, which is delivered in line with the most up-to-date legislation and best practice. Our safe practice is guided by our policies and procedures ie. child and data protection - which are embedded in our day-to-day delivery. ABOUT ART AGAINST KNIVES ART AGAINST KNIVES reduces violent crime, supporting young people and their communities to enable lasting positive change. Our creative projects act as our vehicle for reducing crime; ensuring we engage and intervene early to reduce the risks faced by young people in London. ●

We provide early intervention support to strengthen their capabilities and support them in making positive choices. We have extensive in-house expertise to help our participants in addressing issues such as healthy relationships, personal safety, stress, contraception and challenging stereotypes. We provide risk management support for those who face multiple risks, we co-create risk management plans and implement support programmes to overcome problems such as housing, unemployment, domestic violence and poor mental health. We work in partnership with local and national agencies to ensure our participants are accessing appropriate specialist services.

ART AGAINST KNIVES was formed 5 years ago following the stabbing of Oliver Hemsley, a 21-year-old student from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. In the summer of 2008 Oliver was stabbed eight times by six young men in an unprovoked attack, leaving him paralysed

WHO WE WORK WITH We support young people and young adults aged 12-25 who are considered or consider themselves to be at risk. This includes: isolation, challenging family situations, negative networks, unhealthy relationships, low aspiration, low income and dangerous or chaotic living environments. This includes those that have offended and/or have convictions, those who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system, victims of violent crime or domestic violence, young mothers, young carers, those in care or those excluded from mainstream education.
