Pakistan focuses on peace all around

Right of access for aid to Syria’s innocent

session of the Envoys’ Conference,

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif categorically stated that Pakistan believes in peace and is pursuing a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries especially the Middle-East. He also emphasized that Pakistan has an equal aspiration to forge closer bilateral ties with all countries in the region. The Conference was held in the backdrop of accusations by some circles that Pakistan was, perhaps, deviating from its ageold policy of non-interference and forging friendly ties with all countries and that it was going to take sides in the conflict in Syria. Though previously as well, the Advisor on Foreign Affairs and other spokespersons of the Government vehemently denied such allegations but the pronouncement of the Prime Minister was unequivocal and should leave no doubt that Pakistan has no intention of interfering in the internal affairs of other states. The Prime Minister also talked about resolution of all disputes with India through peaceful means. This is not mere declaration but even before assuming power, Mian Nawaz Sharif started beaming out positive signals to India but unfortunately these have not been reciprocated with the same spirit. Despite provocations of all sorts, Pakistan has steadfastly pursued the policy of maintaining normal ties with India and credit for this obviously goes to the incumbent Prime Minister. In the case of Afghanistan as well, the Prime Minister went to Kabul, held intensive discussions with President Hamid Karzai and made a number of important announcements to bring the two countries still closer. He also assured Karzai that Pakistan has no favorites in Afghanistan and this was amply vindicated during recent Presidential elections as Pakistan extended every possible cooperation for making it a peaceful and secure exercise. The present Government is also determined to forge cooperative relationship with Iran. Sartaj Aziz has recently visited Tehran and the Prime Minister is also due there shortly to pursue this agenda. Apart from external fronts, Mian Nawaz sharif is also pursuing dialogue with TTP in a bid to ensure sustainable peace, which is so crucial for economic development of the country. This policy is bound to pay dividends if pursued with determination.

who say he should act more boldly to help the Syrian people in that country’s civil war. Sending troops is not an option, as even his critics agree. So what more can I do, asked Mr. Obama, than to keep arming certain rebels and assist in the removal of Syria’s chemical weapons? Celebrating Mothers’ Day

of weeks they have Ali Ashraf Khan couple staged a civil disobedience

eople in most countries around the globe celebrate Mothers’ Day on the second Sunday of May

every year. The Mothers’ Day was first celebrated in 1908 by Anna Jarvis in memory of her mother. She then began a campaign to make Mothers’ day a legalized and recognized holiday in the United States. In today’s world, the parents are a neglected lot in almost all of the western countries, while in our society mother is a symbol of sacrifice for her children. She works tirelessly to provide you comfort and to bring a smile on your face. She is the most respected figure in our family system. However, there are also instances where moms are insulted and humiliated; and disrespecting and disgracing her for the whole year and giving her a flower, a bouquet, a card or some chocolates on this particular day is really ridiculous. She cooks your favourite food and works without any rest 24 hours, seven days a week without asking for compensation or return and you are very generous to give her a bouquet or a pack of chocolates - is totally absurd and of no use. In our society and valueable traditions, derived fro local culture and also from Islam, every day is Mothers’ day and to confine it to a close holiday of May every year is silly for our traditions. I request this generation that it is a high time to draw your attention to this issue and respect and love your parents each and every day of the year because as our holy Prophet, Peace be upon him said, ‘Paradise lies under the feet of your mother’. —Karachi printed on currency notes and dence halls. tissue papers are always used The Student Switch-off is a in toilets and other cleaning pur- not-for-profit Scheme that enposes, which was not acceptcourages students to save ento the people of the Great ergy when living in University M KHALID JIBRAN KHAN able Britain.
