Amateur Dramatics The Epworth Mowbray Players No. 5 by Anthony Catherall

Using the R.P.I (retail price index) three shillings (3/-) would in 2009 have been worth £3.21, today a little more. If you wanted to reserve the best seats in the house it would have cost you 3/- and further back 2/ “The Admirable Crichton” was first produced at the Duke of York’s Theatre, London on the 4 th November 1902. For the Epworth Mowbray Players this was the second comedy for them, being by arrangement with Messrs. Samuel French Ltd., London. The play examines examples of how leadership qualities depend on the context. The cast list was to be the biggest yet with twenty one characters. Most of the ‘regulars’ appeared again along with some new faces playing the smaller parts, D. Ffrangcon Davies (The Rev. John Trehearne), W. Leroy Haines (Mr Rolleston a Valet), Derek Camp (The Stable boy), Julie Spencer (a Kitchen Wench) and Ronald Till (a Page Boy). The acknowledgements list now contained eight items, as well as previously mentioned included this time were; Messrs. D.C. Fields and D.C. Harrison for painting the scenery for Act 111. Mrs Hill for the loan of her Radiogram and Mr M.H. Boardman, for arranging the sale of Wall’s Ice Cream.
