very busy time for the founding board’s search for a home for the ARRAC.
We have looked at a county owned building that needed a lot of work but its location (next to the old Court House) and the limited stock of buildings in Wetumpka keeps it on our list. This is an industrial space with high ceilings and an open floor plan. Heating and cooling the building will be a problem so some of the building will not be heated and cooled. We would need to build walls for classrooms and an office. We would need to get approval from
occupy this structure and the occupancy would be for only 2 to 5 years depending on how fast the county moves on their plans.
Another space we are looking at is in the old High School. It is in relatively good shape and will require some paint and lots of cleaning. Our costs would include the utilities which could be off set by renting some space out to artists. We will not know what the status of the building is for another 2 to 3 weeks since there are several tenants already in the building and 1 or 2 new tenants moving in. This would be

size and configuration of the building.
We are also looking at spaces in downtown Wetumpka. The cost is higher $1,500.00 a month for rent and the spaces are smaller 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. Once again renting space to artists and adjusting class fees will have to cover these costs. We hope that a way can be found to move into the old High School ….. keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned!
Our Strategic Plan
Elmore County School System to hold a student logo design contest.
1. Meet the needs of the Community.
The School System is currently reviewing the school year schedule to see when we can be included in the curriculum.
2. Expand our high quality Arts programs.
The winner will have the honor of having their design used as our official logo and will be included with all ARRAC activities and correspondence. The top 10 logos will be displayed in our “Featured Artist” area of the Gallery. (Continues on page 4)
3. Become financially independent. 4. Develop a building fund to support our mission.
The ARRAC Update Our First Classes Are Being Organized Our first classes are being designed as you read this news letter. The Curriculum and programs committee are reviewing costs and pricing with various instructors and are assembling syllabuses for the Arts Center’s permanent curriculum records. The goal is to have between 6 to 8 classes ready to be published on line on December 01, 2010 with the actual classes starting in February 2011. We have several community rooms that have been offered for use for our classes so we will be working in a “satellite” configuration until our

ARRAC assists City with Local Music and Festival Activities The ARRAC has been approached to set up a Bluegrass Jam Session in Downtown Wetumpka for the first Saturday of each month. We are hoping to get an indoor venue for bad weather days and play on the Band stand in Gold Star Park on nice days. There will be Bluegrass, traditional, country and folk music sung during this casual program. . Musicians will play from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. All pickers, beginner and listeners are invited! Bring a chair. We will send out an email when the final arrangements are confirmed. And …. ARRAC is working with the City to add Arts & Craft demonstrations to the Christmas on the Coosa Festival. ARRAC is creating a new Arts Festival for September 2011. The new Festival will be a juried event with high quality Arts & Crafts for sale. More to Come! Jam session update
The weather turned cold and Bath Builders of Wetumpka stepped up and provided a heated studio for our jammers. Even with the short notice we had 17 musicians including some from Prattville, Montgomery. Several members of the group “Fibergrass” stopped by and we even had a guest musician from Arkansas! The jam was a resounding success, good music and a good time was had by all. We look forward to the next session on the first Saturday in December (12/4/10). The indoor location is 5669 Elmore Road (Highway 14) at the Bath Builder’s Showroom from 9am to 12pm, look for the big red and white sign on the south side of Highway 14 just west of the Edgewood Academy. See you there.
