Flag retirement ceremony set for Bismarck AMVETS Post 9 will hold its annual flag retirement ceremony at the post headquarters in Bismarck at 6 p.m. . It is a general practice that when U.S., state and other flags are so badly torn, soiled, or faded that they are no longer fit for display, they are destroyed in a dignified manner, usually by burning. Prior to the flags being retired, a ceremony is held to verify that the flags are no longer serviceable. The public is invited to attend with a social beginning at 6 p.m. and the ceremony at 6:30p.m. The AMVETS choir will perform and there will be a free lunch immediately following the ceremony

Photos must be taken at the Dakota Zoo from public walkways or viewing areas.
All Zoo safety rules must be followed including NO going over fences or other dangerous behaviors.
A maximum of three photos may be submitted by each photographer.
All submitted photos must be either 5” X 7” or 8” X 10” and dry mounted.
Each photo must have the photographer’s name, address, phone and membership number (if applicable) clearly printed on the back of the mounting board.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each of the three age categories.
Photos will be judged on interest, composition, and technical quality.
All photographs will be displayed at the Dakota Zoo for one month after the contest end date.
Entrants will be notified when photos are available for pickup--we will not mail photographs.
Winners may be asked to allow the Dakota Zoo to use their photographs for publications and electronic communications. Start snapping you have until April 30 when contest ends.
