Around Altona 131

from page 1 share my submission with so many – it suddenly dawned on me that I was a little out of my depth. The Altona City Theatre was packed to the rafters, with so many familiar faces! Was I really doing this? Altona was out in force and for better or worse, I was about to make my debut... The great thing about community events like these, is that we are provided a safe and nurturing space for being creative. Hobsons Bay is the home of creativity. We are endlessly encouraged to contribute. Whatever your passion, there is a way to pursue it. My film was nestled in between short films made by young kids, animations with fantastic narratives and masterpieces that appeared to have been created by professionals. As my movie began, I pressed pause on my heart and my breathing – thank goodness it was only a short film! I un-paused to the sound of applause – was that for me? The big winner on the night was a hilariously dark short – My Ghoul, by film makers Andrew Robb and Jessica Gerger. Favoured by the crowd and judges alike. Congrats and well-deserved. The theme for next year’s festival is TIME. Whether you are the next Spielberg, or simply love being involved in your community, I suggest you make TIME to get creating – it is a treat to be part of.
