Creating Your Sacred Space When setting an Intention I like to create a sacred space, this helps me too focus, being creative and surrounded by beauty is essential for me personally so I set a theme, have candles lit, oils diffusing, flowers, crystals, music playing softly in the background can be inspiring, a candle to light when speaking your Intention, pen and paper or a journal. Before we go any further it is important to be prepared. Know what your Intention is before you settle in and have it written out, at least a rough copy. If you are feeling stuck, share it with someone, play with different words. You will know when they are the right ones. Below I have suggested how you can create a sacred space, you may already have a favourite way of doing this ~ Stick with what is comfortable for you. It is not always going to be practical or possible to spend the time on setting up a sacred space. You can hop out of bed and decide right there and then what your Intention is for the day! After all it is about your INTENTION ~ Or, you want to have a restful sleep, in which case before going to bed will be more appropriate. Actually before going to bed is a very good time to set your Intention for the following day for example you may tell yourself that you will wake feeling energised and vibrant. Whatever you are doing see that you are creating something wonderful through your day and stay with gentleness in your heart. Something that I know to be, through years of teaching energetic Aromatherapy and creating blends is ... ‘Thought is Energy, Energy is Matter’ whatever we do, we are pouring our energy and thoughts in to it. Be mindful of what you are thinking. Whatever you are thinking is what you will create. Now getting back to setting a sacred space, Firstly I cleanse my space and what better way than to use an Aromatherapy room spray that I make specifically for my Intention. Another way to cleanse is to smudge with frankincense. Make sure you are comfy, allow yourself to relax by breathing in and out slowly and rhythmically ... breath in and out at the same time feeling your body shed any unwanted thoughts and feelings on the out breath, as you take in your next breath feel the purity, the goodness and the positive energy flowing in to every cell in your body and all around you. Your body, mind and soul are one you are feeling grounded, connected, filled with love and pure life force. Remember where you are now is moving you forward, embrace it, enjoy it.... now you are ready to begin... Take a moment to focus on the here and now... Spend a little time reading over your intention, if it doesn’t roll off your tongue and you are not resonating with it, change the wording and play with it. When you can speak your intention with ease, with grace and with conviction it is done! The next step is to write your Intention on a fresh piece of paper, all the while staying focused on your desired intention. Say it out loud and repeat it as many times as you feel you want to. At the same time light your chosen *candle and repeat your intention again. Here you are working with the element of fire, which represents action and transformation. Keep the candle burning until it goes out, without interruption. There are many ways in which to enhance and empower your Intention, sometimes I anoint the candle with an essential oil blend and roll it in crushed herbs. You can do as little or more, as you want. You can colour co-ordinate your candles to the element of fire for your Intention by using a red candle. You can also follow the cycles of the Moon, when the Moon is full she is her most potent, when waxing it is a time for building and when waning a time to release... more on the Moon in our next issue.
* Never leave your candle to burn without being there. ~ This is a fire hazard, so planning your time is important. If you do go out, blow out your candle and re-light it when you are back.

The Year of The Rabbit
9 Š Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
2011 Hop, hop, and hop: The year of the metal rabbit. 2011 is the year of the metal rabbit. The rabbit is yin wood, and the stem or the element sitting on top is metal – in the same way that in 2010 we had yang metal attacking yang wood, this year we have yin metal attacking yin wood.
Yin wood governs the liver – when the liver is not being supported then the emotional state defaults to anger. This anger can be irritation – or it can become rage. Which of those states manifests is up to you. The cultivation of mindfulness is an antidote to rage (best that you get up to speed with the practice before those states manifest, though).
Yin wood is the retail industry, agriculture; particularly grain, but also fruits and vegetables. It also governs the retail sector, hair and beauty. These industries will be in the spotlight this year.
Yin metal relates to jewellery, knives, surgery, the mouth, singing, the teeth and, sadly, gossip. The rooster will be stirred up the most by constantly trying to control the yin wood. This means that the rooster will be into its harsh phase - into its irritating phase. scstshretaCrahC The rabbit is lively, it is a romance star, and it is associated with reproduction. In general, in the year of the rabbit many people fall pregnant and you often see an increase in the population of plague animals, such as rabbits (in Australia), rats and other creatures.
IN GENERAL, THE RABBIT IS REGARDED AS BEING A BENIGN AND GENTLE CREATURE WITH VERY LITTLE CONFLICT. HOWEVER, THE RABBIT CAN ALSO BE SECRETIVE AT ITS BEST, AND DECEPTIVE AT ITS WORST. THE RABBIT CAN BECOME QUITE STRESSED WHEN ASKED TO TAKE RISKS. THE RABBIT IS ALSO IMAGINATIVE AND INTELLIGENT.
THEY ALSO TEND TO BE CONSERVATIVES ALWAYS OPTING FOR SAFETY RATHER THAN RISK. THEY ALWAYS SET UP AN ESCAPE ROUTE SO THEY CANNOT BE CORNERED. THEY CAN BE ELOQUENT, PARTICULARLY METAL RABBITS.

MONTHLY ENERGIES BELOW IS A SUMMARY OF THE MONTHLY ENERGIES, FOR FURTHER INFORMATION MAKE SURE THAT YOU READ THE MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS, AND TO FIND OUT HOW IT PERTAINS TO YOU SPECIFICALLY, THEN MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET YOUR OWN CHART DONE FOR THE YEAR 2011.
THE WAY I WILL ANALYSE THE MONTHLY ENERGIES WILL BE TO IDENTIFY THE STEM AND THE BRANCH TELL YOU WHAT THE COSMIC FLOW IS TELL YOU IF THEY ARE IN CLASH OR HARMONY TELL YOU THE STATE OF THE EMPEROR OF THE MONTH IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE YEAR. COMMENT ON SPECIAL STATES OR QUALITIES SUCH AS TRAVEL SIGNS, ROMANCE STARS ETC.
FEBRUARY 2011 WILL BE A YANG METAL TIGER MONTH IN A YIN METAL RABBIT YEAR. THE YANG METAL DOMINATES THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH AND THE TIGER DOMINATES THE SECOND HALF. THE EMPHASIS IS ON MAKING WEALTH, BUT WITH BOTH YIN AND YANG METAL PRESENT, AND YIN AND YANG WOOD PRESENT, THERE IS COMPETITION AND CONFUSION. THE TIGER IS A TRAVEL SIGN. WOOD TRAVEL SIGNS LEAD TO INFLATION. MARCH 2011 WILL BE A YIN METAL RABBIT MONTH. THE MONTH AND THE YEAR HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME POLARITY AND ENERGY PRINT. THIS PUTS EMPHASIS ON SOME SERIOUS MONEY. THIS WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST MONTH WERE AUSTRALIA SEES INFLATION – WE WILL THEN MOVE IN TO THE RECESSION THAT WE MANAGED TO DELAY. THE RABBIT IS A ROMANCE STAR.
APRIL 2011 WILL BE A YANG WATER DRAGON MONTH. THE DRAGON IS EARTH, AND EARTH IS ABLE TO HOLD AND CONTROL WATER. THE POLARITIES ARE MIXED, AND THERE IS NO APPARENT COSMIC FLOW. IN TERMS OF THE MONTHLY EMPEROR, THERE IS POWER IN A STRONG PLACE BUT NO REAL FLOW. THIS MEANS APRIL WILL BE A CONFUSED AND UNPREDICTABLE MONTH.
MAY 2011 WILL BE A YIN WATER SNAKE MONTH. THE SNAKE IS YANG FIRE. YANG FIRE BRINGS IN A MIXED POLARITY TO THE FLOW. THE SNAKE IS A TRAVELLING SIGN AND, THEREFORE, MOVEMENT IS IN FOCUS. THE COSMIC FLOW IS TOWARDS INTELLIGENCE OR OUTPUT – A VERY PRODUCTIVE MONTH. THE SNAKE IS A TRAVEL SIGN.
11 © Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
JUNE 2011 IS A YANG WOOD HORSE DAY. THE HORSE IS YIN FIRE. THIS IS A MIXED POLARITY. THE COSMIC FLOW IS NON-EXISTENT, THERE IS CONFLICT BETWEEN THE YIN FIRE, AND THE YIN METAL WITH THE FIRE BEING ABLE TO CONTAIN THE METAL, BUT IN DOING SO, EXHAUSTS ITSELF. THE MONTHLY EMPEROR IS YANG WOOD AND STANDS ALONE. THE HORSE IS A ROMANCE STAR.
JULY 2011 IS A YIN WOOD SHEEP DAY. THE SHEEP IS EARTH AND THE WOOD BREAKS UP THE EARTH. THIS MEANS THAT THE WOOD DOMINATES. THE EMPEROR OF THE MONTH IS YIN WOOD, AND THERE IS A VERY STRONG COSMIC FLOW TO WOOD. WOOD IS THE EMPEROR OF THE MONTH AND, THEREFORE, IS VERY STRONG. THE METAL IS STRONG IN THE POSITION OF POWER, AND TRIES TO CHALLENGE, BUT IS NOT SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE PART OF THE POWER'S FORCE IS TAKEN AWAY WITH THE SUCCESSFUL WOOD TEAM. A VERY INTERESTING MONTH INDEED.
AUGUST 2011 IS A YANG FIRE MONKEY MONTH. THE FIRE IS ABLE TO CONTROL THE METAL. THE EMPEROR OF THE MONTH JOINS FORCES WITH THE YANG FIRE TO FORM WOOD, THUS RELINQUISHING THE ORIGINAL NATURE AND BECOMING WOOD. WOOD IS RESOURCE FOR FIRE. THE EMPEROR IS, THEREFORE, VERY STRONG. THE MONKEY IS A TRAVEL SIGN, SO MOVEMENT IS ALSO IN FOCUS.
SEPTEMBER 2011 IS A YIN FIRE ROOSTER MONTH. THE ROOSTER AND THE RABBIT ARE IN CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER. THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT MONTH, BECAUSE THE MONTH COMES INTO CONFLICT WITH THE ANNUAL 'GRAND DUKE'.
WHEN THERE IS A CONFLICT WITH THE GRAND DUKE WE USUALLY AVOID DOING ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT. THE ENERGY SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED BY ANY BIG EARTH MOVING PROJECTS (SEE FURTHER EXPLANATION IN SECTION ON GRAND DUKE).
IF YOU ARE A RABBIT OR A ROOSTER OR THE RABBIT, OR THE ROOSTER IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, THEN PLEASE DEFER MAKING DECISIONS; DO NOT TAKE ON BIG NEW PROJECTS. IF YOU MUST, THEN PLEASE RING ME FOR AN AUSPICIOUS DATE, OR A FOLLOW UP TO YOUR 4 PILLARS CHART. EVEN IN DIFFICULT TIMES THERE CAN BE ROOM TO MOVE, BUT BEST MAKE IT A GOOD TIME TO TAKE ACTION. THE COSMIC FLOW IS TOWARDS THE MONTH EMPEROR, BUT THE REAL ENERGY LIES WITH WEALTH. THE ROOSTER IS A ROMANCE STAR.
12 © Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
OCTOBER 2011 IS A YANG EARTH DOG MONTH. THE DOG IS ALSO EARTH. THE EARTH HAS NO EFFECTIVE CHALLENGER, AS THE YEAR IS A YIN STEM AND A YIN BRANCH – NOT TROUBLE, JUST A LITTLE MOSQUITO BITE FOR THE DOG. THE EMPEROR IS STRONG. THE COSMIC FLOW IS ACTUALLY TOWARDS RESOURCE, WITH THE RABBIT AND THE DOG COMBINING TO FORM FIRE, WHICH STRENGTHENS THE EMPEROR OF THE MONTH.
NOVEMBER 2011 IS A YIN WOOD PIG MONTH. THE PIG AND THE RABBIT ARE GREAT FRIENDS AND COMBINE TO FORM WOOD. THERE IS NO WOOD IN THE STEMS, SO THE TRANSFORMATION IS NOT FACILITATED, HOWEVER, IN THE DAYS THAT ARE GOVERNED BY WOOD STEMS, THIS WILL BE COMPLETED. THE COSMIC FLOW IS TOWARDS OUTPUT. THE PIG IS A TRAVEL SIGN, AND IS A WATER SIGN, SO THE EMPHASIS IS ON TRAVEL BY WATER.
DECEMBER 2011 IS A YANG METAL RAT MONTH. THE FLOW IS NON-EXISTENT, WITH THE YIN POLARITIES OF THE YEAR'S ENERGIES IN COMPETITION WITH THE EMPEROR. THE EMPEROR IS WEAK. THE INFLUENCE OF THE RABBIT IS BEGINNING TO WANE. THE RAT IS A ROMANCE STAR.
JANUARY 2012 IS A YIN METAL OX MONTH. THE OX IS YIN EARTH, AND EARTH SUPPORTS AND NURTURES METAL. THE COSMIC FLOW IS TOWARDS THE EMPEROR, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WEALTH CHALLENGING THE VERY STRONG EMPEROR. THE RABBIT IS IN DECLINE AND GIVING WAY TO THE WATER DRAGON FOR 2012.
CLASHES THE RABBIT IS REGARDED AS THE GRAND DUKE OF JUPITER. HE STANDS IN THE FLOW OF THE UNIVERSAL ENERGY, WHICH IS COMING FROM 7.5 DEGREES EITHER SIDE OF, AND INCLUDING, DUE EAST.
THE ROOSTER IS 180 DEGREES OPPOSITE THE RABBIT, AND IS CONSIDERED UNDER GREAT THREAT FROM THE RABBIT. THE POSITION OF ROOSTER SPANS THE 7.5 DEGREES EITHER SIDE OF, AND INCLUDING, DUE WEST. THIS IS AN AREA WHICH MUST NOT BE THREATENED THIS YEAR BY DISTURBING THE GROUND.
THERE IS A SECOND DEGREE CHALLENGE WITH THE HORSE. THE HORSE IS YIN FIRE, AND THE RABBIT IS YIN WOOD. YIN WOOD IS DAMAGED IN THE TRANSACTION. THE WOOD IS SUPPORTIVE OF FIRE, PARTICULARLY IF THERE IS ANY YANG METAL AVAILABLE.
THERE IS A SERIOUS CLASH WITH THE DRAGON. THE DRAGON IS YANG EARTH. YIN WOOD DOES NOT HAVE MUCH IMPACT ON THE YANG EARTH, BUT HURTS ITSELF IN TRYING TO BREAK UP THE EARTH.
13 © Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
COMBINATIONS THE RABBIT IS ABLE TO COMBINE WITH THE SHEEP AND THE PIG. THEY ARE CONSIDERED GOOD FRIENDS, AND IF YOU ARE ABLE TO WORK WITH, OR LIVE WITH, PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPATIBLE IN THIS WAY, IT IS WONDERFUL. YOU CAN COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER – YOU CAN FINISH THE OTHER PERSON'S SENTENCES, AND DO NOT HAVE MANY TIMES WHEN YOU ARE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER.
THE RABBIT ALSO IS GOOD FRIENDS WITH THE DOG, AND THESE TOO ARE VERY COMPATIBLE. IN FACT, WHEN THE RABBIT AND THE DOG ARE IN EACH OTHER'S PRESENCE, THEY FORM FIRE, AND FIRE IS ABLE TO TRANSFORM THE WOOD TO MAKE IT PRODUCTIVE FOR THE EARTH.

Rocky Road Recipe Rocky Road By Coco Aroma ~ Making Rocky Road for presents is one of my favourite things to do and often I adapt it or change the ingredients depending on whom I am making it for. I only use Belgium White or Dark Chocolate, for me personally there is no substitute. Before I give you my recipe, I would like to mention that it is possible that it has been done this way before, I have no Idea. I like to think that this is my recipe and as I mentioned I do change it to suit the person I am making it for. Ingredients ~ Belgian Dark Chocolate 400 ~ 600 grams cut or broken into chunks Good quality Marshmallows, 8 ~10 Candied pecans, hazelnuts, almond slithers ž ~ 1 cup full A generous sprinkling of dried sweet cranberries, organic glazed ginger and orange peel Good quality shredded coconut or freshly grated coconut is even better Pinch of chilli powder, ground cinnamon and if you like star anise ~ do the taste test You can even add roasted cacao beans for some more crunchiness...
17 Š Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
Candied Nuts Candied pecans, hazelnuts and almond slithers Using a heavy based pan or skillet, place on the element and set on high heat. When you see that the pan is hot pour in a cup full of white sugar allow it to melt a little and then pour in the nuts. I use a wooden spoon to stir them constantly so they become coated in the melted sugar. Sometimes I add more sugar while stirring to make sure the nuts are well covered. Please be careful as sugar when melted can cause very nasty burns. Resist the temptation to dip your fingers in! Stir around for a 2mins or until the sugar is melted and the nuts coated. Turn off the element. Working quickly, pour the mixture onto a piece of baking paper, previously cut and placed onto a baking tray. Using the back of the wooden spoon spread the mixture out to a single layer, allow to cool and then you can break it up ready to add to your rocky road mix. Now you can have a nibble ~ Completing the recipe ~ to melt the chocolate I use the bai marie method ~ fill a medium pot with water to approximately 7cm high, allow it to come to the boil and then turn it down to simmer. Using a heatproof bowl, place over the pot of water, add your chocolate and use a wooden spoon to stir. Make sure you do not allow the water to touch the bowl as that will burn the chocolate, you may even need to turn the element off. Once the chocolate has melted remove the bowl from the and pot place on a heat proof mat or chopping board, add all of the ingredients and stir them in thoroughly. Place rocky road into individual little cups or fancy containers, place in the fridge until set... You can choose to dress your rocky road by sprinkling more shredded coconut or roughly crushed candied nuts. I have many variations and you can add or take out whatever you choose ~
Join me at a Coco Aroma Rocky Road experience where you will tantalise your taste buds with this delicious and decadent chocolate creation whilst sipping on a glass of bubbles or organic tea ~ you will also get to take home a your own gift of Coco Aroma’s Rocky Road with you!

Set your goal Goals should be straightforward and emphasise what you want to happen. Specifics help us to focus our efforts and clearly define what we are going to do. WHAT are you going to do? Use action words such as direct, organise, coordinate, lead, develop, plan, build etc. WHY is this important to do at this time? What do you want to ultimately accomplish?
Be realistic Create a plan or a way of getting where you want to be that will make the goal realistic. You need to take into account where you are now and where you want to get to. Be sure to set goals that you can attain with some effort! Too difficult and you set the stage for failure, but too low sends the message that you aren’t very capable. Set the bar high enough for a satisfying achievement! Choose a goal that you can measure, so you can see the change occur. Be specific! “I want to walk 3 miles every day” and record your progress in a diary, “I want to be healthier” is not as specific enough. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the joy of achieving the goal and this will spur you on to continue until you reach your ultimate goal.
What are you options? Moving onto options allows you to delve into all the possible alternatives open to you. Ask yourself the following questions: What could you do? What ideas can you bring in from past successes? What else might you do? What haven’t you tried yet, that you should try, in order to move at least one step towards your goal?
When are you going to take action? When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop that attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You may begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities that will bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals. Goals you set which are too far out of your reach, you probably won’t commit to doing, so try by breaking the goal down into much easier chunks. It may take a little longer to achieve your ultimate goal, but it is better than not achieving at all. Set a timeframe for the goal, this can be measured in days, weeks or even months. By putting a deadline on your goal it will give you a clear target to work towards. If you are not specific about when you want the goal to be achieved by the commitment to it is too vague. It doesn’t matter which technique you use to create your goals, the most important thing to remember is to have fun and anything is possible. Happy New Year

Success Story Meredith Collins is one Awesome Bodacious Woman, she is successful, inspiring and an absolute delight to work with ~
Julie recently asked me to share with her and her E-zine’s readers, my business journey – as she was looking for a “success story”. First up, how flattering! It was quite grounding to think that someone who I see working very hard to establish themselves in business would consider my situation successful. Thanks Julie! I decided that it was probably preferable not to share my entire journey to the point I am at now – as it started in 1968/69 and that would make it very long. Although, with that said, my formulated years, i.e. those from three to around sixteen, have had an incredible impact on my business (and my life, my relationships and my child rearing!) So whilst it’s all too arduous to go into here, I want it clear that these years have heavily impacted my life’s journey and I suspect, heavily influence others also, for better or worse. Many succeed despite early programming, but our early programming and beliefs hinder many of us– mine certainly did and it’s taken concerted drive and commitment to make a difference – it’s truly worth it! I started out in business, gently and safely first, by contracting to a former employer. I originally resigned from my job with a vision of more time, flexibility and of course, more money. In my mind, this “business” would immediately equate to holidays, fancy cars, an address that could be envied and all other material trappings. The reality, as many entrepreneurs and business people find, is significantly different and in fact, polar opposite the reasons they set up business in the first place. The hours are long, the money is short on the ground, the workload huge and the material trappings, much less flexibility and more time, a retreating reality. Contracting to my employer and having other project work that I did for this employer was a soft entry – no real marketing or sales, just capitalising on my previous working relationships. It was ultimately unsatisfying and I realised I had a job, but with paperwork – I was now having to do accounts, complete the GST reports and whilst there were some benefits, I felt like I was a bit of a fraud saying I ran “a business”. I really began and committed to running a “real business” when I met Loral Langemeier, The Millionaire Maker and Dr Phil’s chosen money expert. She became my personal business mentor and she meant business. I felt Immensely pressured and had difficulties in overcoming self, regularly, but I ploughed on. Eventually, as my mindset changed and in that, the possibilities for me, and my life expanded, my team increased and Video.Social.Marketing was born.

VSM was not and is not a perfect solution yet – there is so much to do and I recognise the odd internal flaw in my business – a need for evolved processes, systems and other aspects that are internal. Externally, clients are happy, we have great service and values as well as creative, personalised strategies to meet the needs of our clients’ businesses. One of the best things about VSM right now is that it is profitable and growing. It affords me flexibility to manage my three sons, the rigours of a household and be a partner. The hours are long and there is always a lot to do, but I can see the results of my labour and life is heading in a direction that I currently choose. I have discovered that the success I have experienced, and on the flip side, the aspects that have not delivered results I want (read: failures) are in direct proportion to my own growth, expectations and developing business acumen. That is not to say that a failure means I am not developing as a businessperson – what it signals to me is that there has to be a shift in what I am doing. Something not working is just a signal that I need to adjust and realign. “Failure” is actually a great barometer of what needs to happen in a business to gain success. Therefore, I find that the business generally reflects my state of mind generally – this can be a bit confronting to say the least! People have said to me what a great job I do and how committed I have been to building this business. I have, but really, what I have been truly committed to is my own improvement and the business results are the outward projection of my headspace! I know myself well enough now to know when I have a roadblock I need to clear – I get inklings of not feeling “right”, have recurring thoughts that might be a clue that “stuff” is coming up, have a lower back that makes me feel unstable.... a number of little signs that mean I have work to do. To ensure that I continually improve and have a fabulous team on my side, I have my kinesiologist, mindset mentor, chiropractor, business mentors and more. Over the years, have used many alternative-healing therapies throughout my adult life, such as Journey processes and the more eclectic ones, which we won’t even go into here! With all that said about “my head” and the results I get, the business still has requirements to be met and they must be attended to. It has to be cared for, nurtured and developed – so for that, I got myself an awesome accountant – she wants to see myself and my business grow. It’s not just at tax time that she requires my company! Since working with Loral, I truly know that great success absolutely cannot and will not be achieved if I want to be a Lone Ranger. Lone Rangers, in my vast Lone Ranger experience, are frustrated, short on money and time and generally run themselves ragged. Success is a team effort and strategic investment in myself, a team and in my business, when appropriate and calculated, is what has seen my business grow exponentially. 2011 promises to be huge and amazing and no doubt, the growth, challenges and risks will continue. This year is a year of systems refinement and working to build a saleable asset.

Starting Pilates With Peta Serras. A New Year for most of us will often mean a new beginning, usually in the form of New Year’s Resolutions. Often people will want to make lifestyle changes such as to eat better or start an exercise plan so that they can lead a healthier lifestyle. More often than not with these changes people will start by taking a more aggressive approach by cutting out foods they love and adding hours and hours of exercise to their week. By having such a drastic lifestyle change, frequently, only after a short couple of weeks this strict regime has lapsed and you are straight back to where you started! Sounding all too familiar? One of the best ways of adding an exercise plan into your lifestyle that won’t take up all your time, have you buying expensive gym memberships or exercise equipment is Pilates. Pilates is a full body exercising conditioning system that will work your body head to toe. Pilates has many fantastic benefits, which many people are not familiar with that go beyond just toning and stretching. One of the biggest benefits of Pilates would have to be the relaxing component that it has and will make you feel uplifted after finishing a workout. By having a complete mind and body connection the whole time you are working out any thoughts or worries will often alleviate as your focus is directed to the movement. This means that if you are prone to stress Pilates is a great way of centering yourself by learning how to relax by focussing on breath and movement. By also having this mind and body connection, as you continue to practice Pilates your body awareness will increase which is extremely beneficial if you play sports, want to have a better understanding of your body or you just always seem to be stiff and sore and wonder why! Bringing your awareness to the body parts you are exercising, such as abdominals in core work, not only will give you more out of the exercise but over time by making this mind body connection a habit, you will take into everyday activities such as walking, sitting and lifting heavy objects. When doing Pilates a strong area to focus on is your core. By focussing on what your abdominals are doing this can take the pressure or pain away from the lower back, which people will often complain of when working on the abdominals. By constantly bringing your awareness back to your core whilst you are working it and making sure that the correct muscles are working when you do your daily chores and activities engaging your stomach muscles will become second nature, making movements a lot safer.

Pilates is also an exercise routine that doesn’t have a set age or criteria that you have to be in order to take classes. Pilates is fantastic with children by developing coordination and helping with gross motor skills. Classes that do have emphasis on flexibility are also fantastic for children and teens going through growth spurts to help stretch the muscles out and help with posture. Pilates is fantastic with woman expecting children and most women will start Pilates throughout their pregnancy to help lessen back pain and to strengthen their pelvic floor and deep abdominals. After having a baby, women will return to Pilates to strengthen their abdominals back up and to get their body back into shape. Specialised postnatal classes may have emphasis on strengthening upper body, stretching through the torso and upper chest and abdominal work to help strengthen up especially if a lot of abdominal separation has taken place. Exercises in Pilates are easily modified and as you progress so will the exercise and your workout. To notice an improvement and see the results, it is recommended that you participate in 2-3 classes a week with a qualified instructor. As you become more familiar with the Pilates method and your motivation increases, doing small amounts of Pilates daily is a great way to start your day with a healthy mind body ritual.
Extremely beneficial and challenging, Pilates is going to be one of those New Year’s resolutions that you make and end up sticking to! Life Style So far we have looked at setting an Intention and goal setting ~ Here we will look at the power of taking action! Why have I got 3 articles that are saying the same thing using different words? Because we all have our own perception and language that we use and resonate with and we will all pull something from each of these articles that can be used to achieve our desires and transform our lives...
The Power of Taking Action! If you believe that “what you think about, you become” then I am in trouble. I’m always thinking about what isn’t done, what I have to do next and “how am I going to get this done”? What do you think about most often? Is it about what you want to achieve in life? Is it about creating something positive? Here is a small challenge that I promise will surprise and delight you. Everyone has things that need to get done. Some people call is “maintaining life” others call them chores. I’m not saying ignoring these things is going to make them go away but I am suggesting, you can have a radically different life by adjusting how things are done. I’m going to ask you to THINK DIFFERENT. Whenever I had a spare moment or whenever I found myself thinking unproductive thoughts, I chose to think “What do I want to create?” The beauty of this type of question is it is about all the possibilities. It is about creating a BETTER life for me. I sat down for 10 minutes and wrote down all the things I wanted to achieve in life. I captured all the things that were important to me. I STOPPED doing daily things and ONLY did things that were heading toward my goals. Guess what? I achieved probably TWICE AS MUCH output but actually did ABOUT 20% LESS activity. How does that work? I only worked on things that mattered. I FOCUSED. All the things that I used to do that I thought that mattered, didn’t. I spent less time doing “stuff” and more time doing the RIGHT STUFF. So how do you go about structuring your life to do this? It’s just 3 simple steps: Have a plan Set the priority Eliminate distractions with systems HAVE A PLAN Most people just want to get by. They want their bills paid and not too many hassles in life. If they can enjoy their friends, buy the things they want and pay the mortgage they are happy. While this is a nice proposition, it doesn’t really GO anywhere. What they will find is they get to the end of their working career and find they can’t afford to do the things they dreamed about while working. Take for example, everyone wants a little bit more money but few people set an action plan to get it. There are 2 parts to planning. Capture it on paper Start immediately
27 © Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
A lot of people have great ideas and forget what they are down the road. Writing it down will make sure that doesn’t happen. Additionally, we can add, modify or expand on it as we go along as the situation changes. Capture the idea on paper as quickly as possible. That way you will get down all the details that you may forget later on. Once you have the idea, BEGIN IMMEDIATELY, even if you don’t have all the steps. They best way to kill an idea is to not let it get momentum. Once an idea has begun, it can only continue if you give it focus. Never underestimate the power of momentum. Take advantage of the enthusiasm of a fresh idea. The main advantage of a written plan is we have something to focus on. Unlike the unplanned life, where external influences make take our energy, time and focus, a definite plan will allow us to decide what we should be really doing. If you are doing something that isn’t on the plan, you are being distracted. If it IS on the plan, you know that you MUST ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL because that’s how you planned it. SET THE PRIORITY You may have several goals you want to achieve on your plan. Some will be dependent on each other; some will just be there because they are important. A lot of people go about their day just doing the things they have always done. I would much rather spend a day doing activities I KNOW is heading towards an overall objective. So rather than just doing, I am acting with PURPOSE. A purposeful life is not only more rewarding it allows us to achieve more in less time with (usually) much less effort. If I start doing something and I know it is not on my plan, it is easy to spot and change. If I don’t have a plan, how would I know I am not heading the right way? A plan makes it very clear what I should and should not be doing. Additionally, setting priorities WITHIN your plan is important too. As mentioned earlier, dependencies MUST be done in a certain order. What happens if something comes up and you have to choose between 2 activities? You choose the activity based on the PRIORITY of the goal. It’s so easy to just do the activity that is the quickest and easiest rather than the most important. A perfect example of this is checking email. It feels productive to get email out of the way but how much of it really contributes to the achievement of any of your goals? Priorities must be in place so you achieve the most important goal first. Otherwise you will be distracted achieving the many minor goals that are bound to pop up over time. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS WITH SYSTEMS In this case, I define distraction as anything that takes you away from your main goal. They may be as benign as watching TV to seemingly important activities that still don’t get us our goals like reading all our email. A good way to start your day is plan the night before. Each night write down the 6 most important things that must get done. In the morning, start with #1 and finish it. Don’t start #2 until #1 is done. Simple and effective. It’s a great system. I also have “no technology Fridays” (NTF). It can be any day you like but when it’s done on Friday, it sets up my weekend to be a proper break. NTF’s means no TV, phone, iPod or computer (or any other technology that can take your focus/time away). There’s a small amount of planning required for this. The main advantage of an NTF is we are forced back to basics. Simple things are often the best. Go talk to a work colleague rather than texting them. It humanises us and gets us to connect the old fashioned way. Do your meetings face to face rather than on the phone. The best thing is if our phone is off and our email is off, we get SIGNIFICANTLY LESS DISTRACTIONS. You will be surprised how productive you can be without your gadgets.
28 © Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
Finally, when you DO get back to your technology, HAVE A PLAN how you will use them. For instance, I might not answer my mobile for a morning so I can be sure I can get certain things done. Another way for me is to FILTER ALL MY EMAIL. Anything from a subscription NEVER goes in my Inbox. It goes to a separate folder for when I have spare time. I use email flags (sometimes called labels) for everything in my inbox so I can sort/filter by project, activity (eg travel notes) or individual like clients or my PA. Almost nothing ends up in my Inbox except what is absolutely necessary to get my job done. The rest can be sorted or filtered to show when I want to see them, not when others decided to send them. One last trick with email is I began checking email only twice a day 11am and 4pm. That way it didn’t distract me throughout the day. Over time, I changed to 4pm only. These days, I check about once a week. This is for 2 reasons. I trained the people I know to call me for urgent work. I know I can find any relevant emails when I need them because of my filters. CONCLUSION If you do these steps above, not only will achieving more become easier, it will become predictable too. The systems I have mean I don’t need to work as hard as I used to. I actually do less work these days and the things I do now are more controlled. Work less, achieve more. I’m sure that appeals to you.

The New Year always brings reflection and contrast to mind. There's the typical frenzied rush to start up gym memberships, to start new diets, and to make those exhausting resolutions. I have talked enough about the fact that I choose to not make New Year's resolutions. What I have been giving a lot of thought to these past several days, is outward trappings. I've also written a great deal about this very thing in past blog posts, talking about social masks that we incorporate into our daily existence. We always compare. There's this thing we do, and it's called "comparing our insides to other peoples' outsides". Meaning that we compare and find fault with ourselves. We're comparing what we feel inside to the nice, shiny, spiffed up social mask that someone else is wearing, failing to remember that those people are doing the same thing...that they're feeling insecurities on the inside as well. Shakespeare said it quite well, I think: "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." We can pretty ourselves up, buy beautiful clothing, use fancy cosmetics, hair styles, hair colour....even plastic surgery, to change our outward appearance. We can change our name, change our location, reinvent ourselves and try new career paths. It is human nature to want to feel and look our best. We're given this one physical body, this one physical vehicle, after all, so of course we want to feel good in it. Wouldn't it be dramatic, if, one day we all woke up and found the face and body that greets us in the mirror to be truly beautiful? I think of how my family and friends view me. We all know that through the eyes of love, beauty is always what is beheld. The true test, then, is to shower us with that same love. That's the tricky part, yes? Loving self. What a concept. And what a difficult objective. I focus on this as a daily goal, loving myself and accepting myself. I also admit to not quite meeting the mark on a regular basis. There is an absolutely breathtaking Scripture that has always brought tears to my eyes on this concept: Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. - Luke 12:27

This passage in the Christian Bible is one that I have always found to have such strong, straightforward good sense to it. We spend so much time worrying about those outward trappings, when in reality we are imperfect and flawed in the most beautiful manner. I have said many times that I find perfection to be rather static and sterile, and that I much prefer that which is unique and flawed. That would describe every Soul walking the earth today...we are all unique and flawed. I think it is those imperfections and quirks that give each of us our own particular brightness. Do I mean by this post that we should all stop attempting to better ourselves, or stop wishing for more? Absolutely not! Dreams and striving for better is another thing that makes us beautiful. Mankind is meant to evolve. To grow, to smooth off rough edges, to expand, to pursue new experiences. There is, however, valour in standing still and contemplating, for short or long periods of time, just being. Simply that. Like the lilies of the field....just being who we are. Without ornamentation, without artifice, without social masks or anything to detract from the purity of who we really are. Is this possible to actually do? I think it is. I see myself this way in the eyes of those who love me. I have also been given the gift of seeing myself through the eyes of a stranger (One Wish, Healing Morning, 12/15/2009, hyperlink: http://healingmorning.blogspot.com/2009/12/one-wish.html). I see myself each morning as I meditate and make a conscious effort to be still, be in a quiet moment with myself and God/Universe/Spirit. I see myself clearly in moments of anger where I react in a manner that I am not proud of, and these moments definitely help me polish up those rough edges quickly! I see myself in my work....when I write something that I am happy with and proud of, it gives me a moment of such pure clarity that my Soul simply resonates and sings. I see myself in my hopes and dreams for a better future, both for myself and the people I love, as well as for the world at large. It is a complex mix, this thing we call the true Self. Countless books have been written on the psychology of it all. We can make it difficult or simple, and on any given day, just existing can be both of those. Yet the commonality is that we are, in essence, energy. Light, housed in a physical form. Always working to find a moment of peace, of happiness, sometimes working so hard at this that we lose sight that it shouldn't be difficult at all!
Look at that rose. Or that lily. Take the names and labels and pedigrees away, and they are simply flowers in a field, growing and beautiful by their very nature. Is it so hard to grasp this concept and apply it to us? It seems it should be very easy to achieve. The reality is that life is busy and we rarely slow down long enough to even contemplate such a thought. I, of course, contemplate these types of thoughts often; because it's just the way my mind works. It's the way I see the world... through a filter where, to me, beauty is a constant.
33 Š Aromatique Essentials - Julie Nelson
The thought that we are everything that we need to be, at this moment, both inside and out, is an arresting one. That which we call the Creator knows this, knew this before we were even born into this physical existence. The disconnect comes from our own minds and thoughts. Pondering this concept for this article has reminded me that it really is very simple. Stop. Breathe. Be still and look within. Quiet your mind, cease everything for a short time, and absorb the fact that at this moment, you truly are imperfectly perfect. You are not lacking. You are not less than anything or anyone. You are all that you should be, right at this moment. In the eyes of others, and on a cosmic level, you are a blinding light of pure energy that is stunning to behold. You are that rose...by any other name. You are that lily, clad in raiment that is unique to you, as such, is balanced and in harmony. It is a strong, clear thought to embrace today and everyday in the future.
As far as beginnings go, this is a much better concept for me to focus upon, rather than unrealistic New Year’s Resolutions. This concept of allowing love to flow, and allowing myself to recall that birth right of simple beauty we are all given, is a much more natural new beginning to greet the start of another year on the calendar.

Did you know? Aromatherapy and Psychology ~
The speed of smell Aroma therapists know that aromatic substances have an effect on our emotions by skipping the ‘logic’ or thinking part of our brain. This is only a small part of the story; the details are far more complex and interesting. Scientists can measure sensory information being relayed at twenty to thirty milliseconds, faster than our cognitive thoughts can deal with. Just how fast is that? 100 million olfactory receptors send one gig of data per second. Our olfactory system contain 6 million smell receptors, therefore smell is relayed at 6 gigs per second. How do we sort, classify and respond to this overwhelming amount of data? Our brains must have some inbuilt method to prioritise this information or we would simply go mad! There is competition for valuable cognitive recourses therefore not all sensory information can receive full conscious attention. Unsurprisingly, survival and continuation of the species is still the absolute biological priority. Imagine participating in a riveting conversation and suddenly smelling fire. That certainly grabs your attention! In the same vein, pheromones hijack our attention in the form of sexual attraction and tend to trump logical thoughts in the most sensible of people. 500 million years ago when everyone was somebody’s dinner, the primitive brain evolved to survive with an automatic ‘fight or flight’ mechanism, the Limbic System. Rather than stopping to intellectualise a situation or negotiate terms with a huge monster-a-saurus, a prudent survival tactic was to sense danger, quite literally, and run for dear life. This part of our brain remains essentially unchanged. We share this primitive part of our brain with most living creatures. Humans simply have some additional bits which developed later on in evolution, primarily the forebrain, or prefrontal cortex, which gives us executive functioning and rational thought, automatic responses to the environment on a conscious and subconscious level before we have time to think. In counselling work, painful memories can be vividly recalled when smelling something that was associated with the trauma. However, this powerful tendency can also be harnessed to bring about constructive habits and changes. Sensory perception has no absolute values, the meaning or importance placed on an aroma is based on association with memories and pre –existing thoughts, which could be a mood, a memory or a feeling. A recent study has succeeded in training a number of volunteers to feel cheerful when they perceived a particular aroma. Psychologists introduced a barely perceivable aroma into the environment, whilst participants read uplifting passages and affirmations from a book. This was reinforced on a number of occasions. Participants report feeling happier and more confident when they smelled the fragrance again, even though they didn’t know why! Fun fact: Men who cannot smell Lilly of the Valley are might be infertile! Possibly this missing receptor could be the same receptor that guides the sperm to its target? Tiffany Manning

Make-Up Mayhem I am a self-professed lover of theatrical makeup. I love to experiment with different mediums and colours; sometimes the result is amazing and innovative and sometimes I can end up looking like a drag queen...all in fun! Here I have decided I would take you through a basic form of applying the ~ no-makeup makeup. The concept is timeless and classic however it is amazing to see how many girls get it horribly wrong. This technique is designed to enhance your natural beauty. Following is a step-by-step guide to perfection ~ Start with a foundation matched to your skin tone. Blend in using your fingers (which warms the foundation helping it to achieve an even coverage) and don't forget to blend into your hairline and under your jaw! There is nothing worse than seeing foundation lines on your face ~ you don't want to look like you are wearing a mask. Finish with a loose, translucent powder, applied sparingly with a large, fluffy brush. This will set the foundation and minimise shine on the skin. Using an angled eye brush, apply a mid-tone bronze eye shadow in a thin line along your upper lash line. Blend gently with a cotton tip. Blend a light bronze colour 3/4 of the way along the eyelid, starting at the outer corner and extending up toward the brow bone. Take a nude/bone coloured eye shadow and blend from the inner corner of the eyelid, ¾’s of the way out. The two colours should overlap and create a graduated effect starting light at the inner corner and becoming darker towards the outside. Slick on a coat of mascara in black or brown (depending on your personal preference). Remember to apply mascara to your lower lashes to give the effect of opening up your eyes. Finish your eyes by lining the inner rim of your lower eyelids with a brown eye pencil. Blush is the product where many girls make their biggest blunder. Use an earthy tone and blend onto the upper cheekbones. Your best results will come from not being too heavy handed when applying your blush. Build the colour up slowly and be careful not to overdo it. If you feel like the colour is too intense, take some of your loose translucent powder to pull back some of the colour. Last but not least slip on a little lip gloss in a soft or sheer colour to complement and enhance the ‘Natural’ look.

New Team Members I am very privileged to have such a wonderful team of experts to work with. I would like to acknowledge their support, professionalism and the fantastic work they do in helping me to create what I believe to be a beautiful and exciting business at Aromatique Essentials. I have recently been involved with Aaron Starr whom I discovered through Ludwina Dautovic director of The Red Tent Woman. Aaron is writing music and creating some images for my soon to be launched Ebook package. Yes it is finally going to be here! I love working with Aaron and as you will see Aaron has much to offer for you to improve your business.
Aaron James Lee is a Singer/Songwriter/Producer, Voice Over Artist, Graphic Designer, Journalist and Entertainer (Under the stage name Aaron Starr). He has written content for the Yahoo! and AOL portals and currently writes a technology article for Examiner.com. Aaron started writing music when he was eight and hasn't stopped since. He has most recently written the score for a local edition of the play Equus, written the theme song for the Red Tent Radio podcast and won an award for his song "No Words". He has also written several jingles and commercials and continues to write music for himself and other clients. Aaron also toured around the United States with the Continental singers as a tenor when he was 16. And he worked at Walt Disney World as an entertainer in his 20's. He shudders at the thought of a world without art and creativity. I Write, Compose and Perform Music and Lyrics. I am also available for Graphic Design work (Logo, brochure, business card, Flyer and Web Layout design, etc.), Voice Over/Narration work and Article, Script or Copy Writing. My contact information is Aaron@AaronJamesLee.com, www.AaronJamesLee.com, (US Number): 937-5050-ART, Skype: AaronStarr
